I hit 70 feeling pretty smug with my lot. Then cancer hit, and now a demanding DH who is housebound and mostly chairbound and thinks rehabilitation exercises are something somebody else can do to make him better. He's running me ragged and I feel about 30 years older suddenly.
In addition, the huge house I suggested we sell ten years ago to make life easier for us met with his refusal and now it is falling apart. As am I.
Oh what a good topic and a bit sad, too. I suppose in some ways I have more than I ever dreamed of but I also realise a lot of it could disappear in a flash !
A home. Unfortunately husband didn’t have the same dream. I bought so many homes but both husbands made sure to get rid of them. They didn’t like me having more money than them and wanted to keep the property in their names!
I don't think I have ever given it much thought but if I had I would have expected to have my husband beside me because he was four years younger than me! But he was killed by an idiot lorry driver on the motorway when he was only 48. Life would have been very different had he lived. I have found a level of contentment now and try to live with an attitude of gratitude. There's so much to be grateful for when you're nearly 85 and still physically active and healthy 😊
Same as Georgesgran same age retireing and same 10 years till cancer came to him glad we had those years and done many beautiful things together not a day goes by without a thought about my dear man😥
I didn’t expect that I would still be living at my age, 89 next week, but I am and am thankful. Reasonable good health, difficult family situations, but ticking along and perhaps looking to the future and not the past.
I don’t think I ever thought about life in my mid seventies when I was younger, and if I did I probably thought I’d be globe trotting with my DH, enjoying the good life, not caring for my DH full time. But it is what it is.
