Welcome to Melba!

Gagagran, thinking of you and your family.💐

Good morning all,from a cloudy Glasgow, it's only 13°C.

GM, Catholic churches celebrated the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul last week. Traditionally, that is that feast is when priests are ordained in the Catholic Church.
Curious as to why it was deferred to this week in your church,, as I thought Anglican churches celebrated on the same date.

Thanks for the tip about the tomatoes. R&L, DH usually waters them for me, but they are looking rather sad and neglected at the moment.
My lettuce are not thriving at all, no matter what I do, those blasted slugs always get the better of me!
However, we did have strawberry tarts, made with strawberries from the garden, so like the Good Life. I felt quite smug. Unfortunately, the raspberries seem to be diseased.
It has been a struggle recently for us to keep the garden in order.

We had an unexpected visit from Dollie and her parents. What a joyful surprise! It gave DH such a boost.

I wish you all a pleasant Sunday.

Good Morning all from the central south coast where it is cloudy but warm and set for another sunny day.

News from the Isle of Man is that my big brother is not expected to last longer than tomorrow so I am awaiting the phone call. He is calm and comfortable in the hospice, where his care has been wonderful. What a brilliant organisation the hospice service is and would that we all could end our days there.

Chores on the agenda this morning followed by the Tour de France on TV and my own gentle recovery continuing. I do feel as if I am over the worst now though my ribs still let me know that they are not ready for much activity.

Welcome Melba - you will find all sorts on this lovely , gentle and supportive thread which Mick starts for us every morning.

Take care everyone and thoughts are of all with struggles or worries of any kind. May today bring some relief.

Good morning from Koh Samui, Thailand. I think it’s about 32*.

We arrived here late on Tuesday evening and have been having a very relaxing time in a gorgeous hotel where we’re being thoroughly spoiled. I could get used to this lifestyle. 😁

We have a few more days here before moving on.

I haven’t managed to keep up with all the busyness but I hope all is well, or as well as can be, in the Gransnetters’ world.

Happy Sunday everyone.

Good morning from a bright sunny Suffolk after a pleasant cloudy and somewhat cooler day yesterday. I enjoyed a long catch-up on the phone with one of my old school friends….the last of the 5 of us to be 80 this year. Our plan to have a celebratory holiday in the apartment of one of us on the French Riviera in October is on hold at the moment because of the ill health of one of our DHs.

A quiet restful day at home with the usual dog walk and catch ups with the children by phone. The week ahead is looking quite busy. Hope all have a good day.

Good morning all from a cloudy Black country.
Had a bad nights sleep woke at 3 and couldn't get back to sleep so read for a couple of hours thinking I would drop off managed another hour.
Not a lot planned for today, need to spend some time in the garden bindweed from next door is creeping through the fence.Their garden gets done once a year they usually have someone in to clear it the grass is 3ft high.
Have the best day you can everyone whatever your plans, hope to hear from Marydoll today.
Welcome Melba 👋
Thinking of missing posters.

Good morning everyone from mid Essex, high cloud with blue patches this morning, a cool breeze too. Yesterday I walked round to a local shop for flowers for my dementia friend’s birthday, I took them to her later in the morning. As expected she was unaware it was her birthday, but there were lots of cards and flowers for her.
Both DDs were busy yesterday so I didn’t see either of them, but hope that DD2 will call in today.
The 7 and 8 year olds are playing cricket this morning, then have kung fu grading at lunchtime. Meanwhile I’ll continue my battle with the garden, I haven’t seen my gardener for several weeks now, he’s obviously not well enough to resume working unfortunately.

Welcome to melba and also to tanama, stewaris and nannabling who posted quite late on Friday. Good to see you all.

Thinking of those who are not posting at the moment and hoping that you’ll soon be back with us.

Have the best day you can everyone.

WhiteSwan63 Sun 05-Jul-26 07:52:51

Good morning from the east coast. We have another lovely day with a cool wind it’s gusty today. Our garden is like a dust bowl desperate for rain. DH planted the last of the beetroot. He hasn’t bothered much this year just beetroot and tomatoes.

Yesterday we had a houseful of little girls. My nephew brought his two who are about the same age as our two little ladies and they all get on so well. They mostly played hide and seek together.

Today we are doing a country coastal walk with a coffee along the way somewhere.
I won’t be staying up for the England match but I think DH will set his alarm.

Lovely picture off your DGD Bellasnana I love her hair.

Welcome Melba

Wishing you all a lovely day with moments of joy 🌼

Harris27 Sun 05-Jul-26 07:51:07

Morning all from a warm but not too warm yet north east. We were out yesterday just doing a bit of shopping had coffees and leisurely lunch. Today we must tackle the garden. A mass of blue flowers seem to be creeping up after the lawns cut not sure why? I’m up early these days with the sun belting through early hours, have a good day all.

hollysteers Sun 05-Jul-26 07:46:46

Good morning from Cloudy Chambers northwest coast. A day at home yesterday pottering round. Tried to open my bank apps on new IPad, but even with all the correct information, it wasn’t having it….when did life get so complicated?

All music in folder now for opera concert this afternoon. Dress ready etc. the venue is over an hour away and I’ve been once before, it wasn’t easy to find. I’ll have a warm up warble in the car when I can take my eyes off my sat nag.
Hope you all have the best Sunday you can🌺

Gingster Sun 05-Jul-26 07:46:34

Good morning and it’s cool and a little overcast. The best part of the day for me a before I wilt as the day and heat progresses.
I’ve already watered and did a bit of weeding.

Yesterday DS and DIL came and did some jobs. DIL fixed my blind cord (she’s a handy girl) DS did some Ivy removal from the fence and shed, with dh sitting watching him. It’s sad to see , he used to be a very active man.

The slow cooked venison was good, but really tasted just like beef. I’ll make a pie with the leftovers for today’s dinner.

Watch more tennis . DS2 is in the final at his tennis club today. 🤞.

Another great photo Bellas. I do wonder why it’s called soft ball. Not at all how I imagined. The things you learn on gransnet! 🤔.

I hope you all have a pleasant day.🌺

Greyduster Sun 05-Jul-26 07:39:08

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from an overcast South Yorkshire. I woke several times in the night and felt very overheated. GrandMattie Stanford in A was always one of my favourite anthems. I’m fond of all his music.

Yesterday seemed a long lonely sort of day. I pottered about doing bits in the garden, and clearing some very tough weeds from the bottom of my box hedge where it borders the road. The hedge itself seems to be making a comeback after the box moth ravaged it so the treatment must be working. I also finished my end of year notes for school.

Today I have a beef casserole to put in the slow cooker and I must tackle the ironing and put some petrol in my thirsty little car!

Have the best day you can folks.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 05-Jul-26 07:37:34

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. Today promises to be slightly warmer than yesterday.

I collected younger son from the station yesterday. He had brought us a belated Golden Wedding gift of some beautiful golden birds. He cooked us dinner. The original plan was for a fish pie but it was a little too warm so he cooked pork chops in a cream and mushroom sauce. Strawberries and cream for pudding. The fish is in the freezer. Today we are having lunch at a riverside restaurant.

Rather annoyingly my other big toe is now causing problems. I’ll probably contact the podiatrist directly rather than mess around sending photos to the GP.

OH will be staying up tonight to watch the football. I won’t!

I hope all is well with the MaryDs.

Have a good day.

Ashcombe Sun 05-Jul-26 07:37:26

Good morning from a bright and sunny Torbay.

I’ll be driving us to Portsmouth today where, after an overnight stay in Travelodge, we shall take the ferry to Ouistreham for a two week stay in France at DH’s home.

Be good while I’m away, you people! 🦩🥰🦩💐🦩

brook2704 Sun 05-Jul-26 07:34:11

Good morning everyone from Inverness, it’s been raining in the night and still looks cloudy now
Another great photo Bellas
Yesterday was quite successful, we went sofa shopping, made a decision at last and got them ordered. Now I just need to think how we can dispose of the old ones. They might sell locally at a cheap price so will see …. I’ve my usual Sunday call with DS first thing but then nothing planned for the rest of the day. Hopefully if it dries up we can get some gardening done otherwise we’ll continue sorting with our inside jobs and DH will probably be tinkering in the garage.
Welcome Melba I hope you enjoy it here on the GM thread
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Jaxjacky Sun 05-Jul-26 07:30:05

Morning from high cloud in S Hants, my daughter’s open house in her local pub was delightful. So many of her school friends I haven’t seen for years, great to catch up in the sun.
It’ll be a quiet week ahead as the heat kicks in, more bbq’s for two I think, but a roast chicken today.
Enjoy your day.

Astitchintime Sun 05-Jul-26 07:27:09

Good morning from a breezy NE Mids. It is rather overcast this morning but not unpleasant by any means. Not much planned for today apart from the usual tidying up. I hope to see the AC and GC later.
Have a good day one and all!

karmalady Sun 05-Jul-26 07:20:06

Good morning from sunny s somerset

Another lovely day and I am off in a couple of hours, cycling the indirect route plus an allotment visit for me then home for lunch followed by sewing this afternoon. I love the mornings up there and did exactly the same yesterday.

I will be prepping ground for two new blackberry plants, not brambles, they are ordered and will likely arrive next week and that will fully complete my allotment

I did enjoy my sewing last night, not rushing anything, I only have the sleeves left to do and the hem, I did sort my pins yesterday, I think some were from the 70s in boxes with no sizes printed. I did throw some out and there were not too many jumbles. I use several types of pins for different fabrics, zips etc

I was followed by a baby bird on the allotment yesterday, I think a robin, it was so uplifting

luluaugust Sun 05-Jul-26 07:17:25

Good morning from a sunny W Kent. DS came yesterday afternoon and we spent a while just chatting, very rare event to have our AC on their own. DDIL arrived after work and had a shower before they went off to a party. DGS3 phoned and booked a stay over with us before going to a conference, so an unusual Saturday for us
Quiet today I think
Another lovely photo Bella

Melba Sun 05-Jul-26 07:15:10

Wow …just joined this morning , never knew this forum existed ! How wonderful .
Good morning from Nottingham ..gardening and watching a grandchild in her first gymnastic show is our agenda this morning , definitely not watching the football ! Nor Wimbledon ..nor the grand prix ..have a wonderful day all

kittylester Sun 05-Jul-26 07:08:10

Good morning all from a cloudy North Leicestershire.

Not a lot happening here today. DH is gearing up for the match tonight so I will provide sustenance as and when required. I spent yesterday feeling really washed out after my nosebleed on Friday night. I think i feel better today.

Have the best day possible everyone.

EkwaNimitee Sun 05-Jul-26 07:07:23

Happy Sunday Mick and everyone. It's rather cool and grey here in Carlisle, I'm on the wrong side of the north/south divide!
I woke in the early hours with a migraine so got up at five-ish as it's improved by being vertical. Currently it's in abeyance but I feel it trying to make a comeback which is when I shall hit it with paracetamol. Meanwhile I'm planning a lazy morning as I'm too tired to do much. I shall read the papers possibly or leaf through the pictures in my coffee table books, we'll see....

Yesterday I walked through the park to the further convenience store to get the papers and some bread. I like an early walk when it's quiet. Then it was back for a second breakfast and a long phone chat with my sister. Then just a few tidying and admin jobs later. I watched the highlights of the Tour de France, it's on 5 now not ITV4. Only one programme so far but I feel the latter did it better, I miss their presentation team who did a good job. As for the full race, it's gone behind an expensive pay wall as ITV4 have lost that too.

Wishing you all a bit of sun and fun!

NannyJan53 Sun 05-Jul-26 07:03:13

Good morning from a warm but cloudy Black Country.

Back to normal now after our 2 weeks in Portugal. Washing done, just ironing!

Walk this morning with a new group I am going to try out.

I have seen Facsinating Aida twice in the past Melanie , very funny. Especially the skit on Cheap Flights!

BBQ tonight, it so lovely to eat outside. Eating out is certainly very expensive now uttb. We wait until we receive 40% discounts from certain pubs we are signed up with if we can.

Wishing you all the best day possible.

Melanie61 Sun 05-Jul-26 06:42:50

Good morning from Sheffield

The show last night was fabulous, my daughter and I had a great time. Our food at Egos was excellent too. One of the stars in the show is a member of Fascinating Aida. They are touring next year so I booked to see them too, they are so clever and funny

I am cycling this morning, I feel as though I need some exercise. Then a quiet afternoon and evening . The sausages will need a walk at some point too.

Take care everyone flowers

GrannyGravy13 Sun 05-Jul-26 06:40:44

Good morning from my corner of S E Essex, it is forecast to be a glorious day, so I shall be on my sun lounger in the garden in the dappled shade.

First thing I am ferrying the 11 yr old to his football club’s tournament day, he has to be there for 8.15am. It’s going to,be a long day for him.

Thinking of all our poorly morning friends 🙋‍♀️
