Going off alcohol

I definitely buck this trend.

I still enjoy wine (white or rose) vodka & tonic, (fussy about the vodka) maybe a gin & tonic (I only like Hendricks gin) rather fussy about the tonic.

Like a good champagne, totally over Prosecco.

Basically I am fussy, when I consume calories I want to enjoy them 🍾🥂

Being coeliac I can no longer drink beer or lager. Cider is fine….apart from the calories! 😫

I like a shandy of an evening, I buy cans and it’s 0.5% very refreshing when very cold.
Nothing like the far too much white wine I used to drink years ago.

I could drink a shandy as long as it’s dead weak with a nice pizza.

Gave up alcohol in my early 40s, I found it was making me depressed regardless of one, or three drinks.
Also I think once us ladies start hitting menopause, I think that may have a lot to do with it.

I did mean to add both my daughters have found they just cant drink as they used to as it makss them feel sick they are in their 50s so maybe its just bodies changing that does it.

I've not had alcohol since I was 32, after an embarrassing incident at a friends dinner party I vowed I would never drink again and apart from a sip of champagne at weddings I'm now 77yrs. I never missed it.

I belong to a wine club ( I live next to a wine growing area) so we get wine cheapish by the dozen. There are a lot of wonderful small vineyards within a 30 minute drive. Another reason I don’t want to move and downsize !

That would definitely make me stay put. 🤣🥳🍷

I feel it will soon be drinking alcohol at home… a slippery slope?
When I was out last evening my favourite Cocktail, an Old Fashioned , was £11:50 and a glass of Australian Shiraz £13:50.
I settled for Rioja at £10:50.
I couldn’t help but compare what a bottle would cost if bought and drunk at home.
The hospitality industry is in danger of shrinking into just a few venues for the determined and the well off.

I used to worry about that when I moved after DH died, utbb but I now realise it’s no big deal. Nothing nicer than your favourite tipple in the peace and quiet of your own home especially knowing it’s a fraction of the cost you!d have to pay in a pub or restaurant.

I love Bacardi on Friday nights. I don’t think I can tolerate anything else due to migraines but I have persisted over the years and it seems I can take that.
However I have tried using wine drops in occasional glass of Merlot of late and they seem to work at staving off the bad head too. But no I still do love to have some alcohol but generally once a week is plenty.

I don’t drink as much as I did. But I rarely find a soft drink I like. So many of them are full of sugar.

I recently signed a petition to try to get VAT reduced in the hospitality sector.
I don’t know if it has been presented yet.
A change of PM and Chancellor of the Exchequer may be favourable.

I feel sorry for the hospitality industry. Obviously they're losing sales to me. More seriously, it's hard to keep businesses like that going when having to pay staff higher wages, increased national insurance contributions and high council taxes. Something not thought through more fully by the chancellor. Not meaning to veer into politics though. Just my thoughts.

Haven't gone off alcohol although I no longer drink the industrial quantities of red wine that I used to after getting back from work in London on a Thursday night.
I still like a glass of red wine with pasta and also beef.
Sometimes I really like a G and T with lime. We have a bottle of Cremant every Friday and I've yet to turn down a glass of champagne if I can get it. My favourite liqueur is Grand Marnier (red ribbon) although this is quite difficult to get particularly in restaurants who tend to stock Cointreau which is way too sweet and a completely different drink. Having said all that I'm currently sitting in the garden before it gets too hot and I'm drinking.......... Perrier Water flavoured with cordial........

I have done the same with meat.
Only eat about half of what I used to.

I presume it is an age thing.

Like you fancythat l have gone off meat will tolerate chicken and fish just about but still enjoy a small glass of white wine! Naughty girl!!

I haven’t gone off alcohol but it no longer features in whatever routine I happen to be following as a matter of course - if that makes sense.

When DH was alive (but not on chemo) we shared a bottle of wine most nights. Now, I’m reluctant to drink alone, but I might have a red or white with the DDs - maybe 2 glasses in a week. Of course, on holiday, it’s totally different and back to frequent stops for refreshment and wine with our evening meal. I don’t drink beer or lager and rarely touch spirits.

Maybe it's something to do with taste changing? I'm finding some sweets and chocolate just too sweet but find acidic things just too unpleasant. I must be narrowing down to a smaller range of likes. I do enjoy fruity drinks so all is not lost.

I have not drunk at all since I was about 30. It just made me sick!

I love alcohol and am certainly not going off it. For me best enjoyed with friends and even better with friends, family at an outside occasion. Love champagne, prosecco, crémant, red wine G'nT , most cocktails, so I'm not a cheap date

The only time I couldn’t abide alcohol was when I was pregnant. I assume not the case for you Aveline!
At first I didn’t know I was pregnant, but I couldn’t even be in a room where alcohol was being served.
I do like a nice chilled white or Rose.

I'm with UTBB. I don't drink much but like a glass of rosé or two while cooking.

My husband has stopped having wine with dinner now. He just doesn’t fancy it. I still like a glass but if we have a bottle it ends up getting chucked after a couple of days . Sometimes I can use the rest in sauces etc but not always. I think your body tells you what it wants for health !
