Spending the long hot days at work with no air con

I'm quite excited - rain forecast for us tomorrow!

I get up at 4am when it’s cool enough to prepare that evening’s meal and do other light tasks. I also open all the windows and external doors until 7am then close them and all curtains. It’s surprising how that early morning air can cool the rooms. I place all my night wear and a cold hot water bottle in the fridge, then will either do some craft work, read, cryptic crosswords, do a jigsaw or watch a film or two. If I need to shop I go to the supermarket that opens first at 6am. It does all get monotonous though, I agree.

I've watched quite a bit of Wimbledon this year with my fan beside me. I just do small bits at a time then flop when I run out of energy. In the evenings from around 7.30pm I sit in the garden with a book. Then water it!

I sit outside on the sun lounger in the shade with a good book and a fan enjoying the weather while it lasts 😀

Learn a language - lots of free websites, or Duolingo. I have also dropped a few hints about getting a keyboard for my birthday next month so I can learn to play something. Currently making a photobook online with photos from holiday in Italy before the heatwave started. Walks early and late. Making ice cream. Lots of admin and shredding to do too. Not enough hours in the day really.

Over the hot days, I've noticed lots of jobs needing done around the house and garden so I've been spending time, listing and researching how to do them - Big Job! When that gets too alarming boring,
I've been catching up with Ancestry a little.
Making lists of stuff we'll need to get in over the next few days as we have no c & c's arranged.
Ordered up some stuff I need from online, checked banking accounts,
Investigated the best way to go about upcoming car MOT - inclusive of service/pre mot check and so on,
catching up with memoirs for DGC,
and in the evening deadheading and watering the garden, although it really needs weeded after a terrible gardener supposedly weeded it.
Today went out early but ended up bumping into friends and chatting.
Trip to vets for meds and to Tesco for lunch and dinner stuff.
I will chill and read this afternoon and
'Think about' cleaning tomorrow
and save the hoeing of weeds and supervising the sanding down of garden studio until tomorrow when temps are apparently dropping here in Scotland.
We are at 'only 26 degrees and it just wipes me out nowadays!

Watch tennis

Spending as much time indoors as possible - much as I like the sun an almost constant 36 degrees is just too much for me, especially when it doesn't go below 26 overnight so I can't sleep. Sewing, watching films, crosswords, Scrabble, very little housework unless done early, laundry is brilliant because it all dries so fast. I've just washed three Winter puffer jackets and dried them on the line.

Had to go into London yesterday for DH hospital appointment and I just found it difficult to breathe in the hot air. We had a fair walk to the hospital, not to mention between tube lines. The train coming back was much cooler than the train going out but I was so happy to be home again.

Luckily I am an early riser and spent part of my childhood in tropical climes, so I am up at 6.00. Cleaned the kitchen and come 9.00 am did a short walk to the newsagents to get the papers, Argos to collect a package, M&S Food to collect more ice lollies and home.

By the time I got home, around 9.30, the builders had arrived so we discussed with them what they intended to do today. They are currently refitting the bathroom, including external downpipe to the sewer and reroofing a single storey extension. Coffee and the papers followed by doing some pqperwork at my desk,

We have just had lunch and I will do more paperwork before painting an internal door frame. The house being the way it is , it is best to break redecorating into small tasks so that any area with wet paint is not so big that people are bound to brush against it. Just one cat of paint and then I will start making new living room curtains.

I'm with you Aveline. Compared to the rest of you I'm like a sloth? Thank goodness for Wimbledon and the World Cup.

We have Virgin Queen CD. Never get tired of listening to it. It was a fabulous series.

Been playing piano, watching YouTube, reading and repotting houseplants (in deep shade). Poor dogs are bored although sleep a lot so passes their time!

Well I was brave and drove into town to drop off that document. I was so thrilled to spot a parking space in central Edinburgh that I failed to notice that it was the wrong way on a one way street. Luckily I got away with it. Food shopping at nearby shopping centre and now home. Hiding in the dark with my Dyson fan going. The cat's long fur is wafting in the breeze from it!

Yesterday I slept late due to having a very uneasy night. I did no housework whatsoever but sat outside in the shade for a while. Did my usual morning puzzles and then made lunch. In the afternoon I settled down to watch the Wimbledon tennis.
I watered the potatoes when they were in the shade and then had a little walk around the houses. Evening television was poor so I scrolled through some YouTube videos and found the very first episode of Catweazle which was a trip down memory lane.
Today our son is coming for lunch so this morning I have dusted the living room. Still need to vacuum but DH is having a nap and I don't want to disturb him. It can wait until later.

Some of you are so busy that I need a rest to recover from reading about your activities.
I'm sitting here in the dark with the blinds down. I had the windows open earlier when it was cool.
I'm contemplating taking a doc into an office in town then food shopping locally. Don't want to do either.

I agree the heat is a bit too much and induces lethargy, particularly in the heaving metropolis. From a personal pov, right now we're down in Dartmouth, having much breeze from the River Dart, various boat trips, one to NT Greenway, Agatha Christie's house. Saturday we 're moving on to Salcombe, so I'm not bored, o/h is playing golf today, I shall have a swim in the hotel pool. I can't remember another British holiday where it's been unbroken wall to wall sunshine. I think mainland Europe are getting terrible extremes, for once I'm glad I'm here and not there.

I have fond memories of a pub at Salcombe called The Pigs Nose…

It is on Ch4. I found it last night. The Mayor of Casterbridge was on iplayer, I watched it last year. I love The White Queen. I wasn’t so keen on The White Princess but I might try it again. What I did like was the Elizabeth series with Ann Marie Duff and a young Tom Hardy. It got overlooked because there was another series at the same time starring Helen Mirren, but I preferred the Tom Hardy one. I still buy DVD’s because I like all the extra stuff you get with them.

It's one of the free channels so plenty of adverts but hey ho.
I love the way in dramas from yesteryear seemed to quietly unfold, little moments not rushed.
I'm going to start buying older DVDs from charity shops in order to be able to watch The Mayor of Casterbridge, The Woodlanders and the like, all of the Dickens addaptations and The White Queen!
