A thread for people who have been on GN a long time

I was sorting a few papers out yesterday and a writing pad sheet fluttered to the floor and on it it said just ‘December 2013’
and underneath that was a list of names, that I soon realised were GN posters. It was probably not long after I had joined GN and maybe me trying to remember names but I thought some old timers may be interested to have a look and see who they recognise,
It might set some memories off

You really don't know the full story behind Greatnan's disappearance so I think it's very unfair of you to raise that subject
Actually some of us do know the circumstances of Greatnsns fatal accident but that is not at issue.

Petra has made the point that Jura should have been banned when she posted very personal information regarding Greatnan’s daughter some time earlier and as a result they fell out big time as she had betrayed a confidence.
Just trying to set the record straight..

Iam64 Fri 17-Jul-26 20:16:51

MayBee - no one can know the full circumstances about greatnan’s fall. What I recall is Jura criticising her for walking in the mountains alone.

Mamie Fri 17-Jul-26 18:29:43

Jura is French speaking Swiss.
I have also had this nonsense about not understanding anything about the UK if you don't live there. I have to say that coming back to live in England after 20 years in France, there is nothing that has come as a surprise. This is probably because I have always been in close touch with my children, grandchildren, extended family and friends, TV, radio, newspapers, the internet, regular visits and even Gransnet.

Agree MayBee70 am also an ad hoc poster but Never changed my name as posters have replied on post and PM’d -🙏to these posters as u never know what frame of mind anyone is in🙏and very thankful of all replies 🤗 negative or otherwise 🙏

I don't think changing your username is against the rules, unless you are coming back as a previously banned poster.
GNHQ approached me very recently about that very thing because someone here obviously feels I shouldn't be on GN.
All it took was an honest explanation. GNHQ looked into it and were happy with my profile.

Jura has returned numerous times with different names. Some time ago she left announcing gransnet was bad for her mental health. So far as I’m aware she isn’t currently posting - posters don’t get banned because “some people” don’t believe they have a right to post on gransnet

On the last count I think there were 6 different user names.
She should have been banned when she posted very personal information regarding GreatNans daughter.

Sorry MayBee a case of post hoc,non ergo propter hoc

Oh and I said all of her adult life I believe?

She has definitely been banned.

As you say, it’s not because she was not entitled to post on threads about the UK, however frustrating it might have been for the rest of us to be lectured about all that we are doing wrong!

She is French BTW so although she spent her teaching career in the UK you can’t say «all her life»

I didn't say she was banned for that did I?I just pointed out that she had definitely been banned.. I did say that some people didn't think she had a right to comment on this country because she no longer lived here.

I just wish I had known about GN back then!!! Came in Autumn 2023

So for me its just a couple.

Jura has been banned. Some people felt that, even though she and her husband had lived and worked in this country for all of their adult lives and had children still living here she had no right to comment on what happened here sad.

I remember a lady who had a very busy life who suddenly left. I think she had a factory and also had a job as a carer, possibly in a school?

Would that have been Scentia ?

Mamie Tue 14-Jul-26 04:49:31

There was a lot of co-operation and support on Gransnet when Greatnan went missing. I was in France and remember contacting mountain rescue teams. Jura did a lot locally to keep the search going until Greatnan was found. It was very sad.

merlotgran Mon 13-Jul-26 21:46:53

Greatnan lived in France and grandjura, as she was known then, lived in Switzerland. They were good friends at the beginning but fell out just before greatnan went missing although jura took part in the search.

Another poster who used to visit greatnan was WhenI’m64 - not to be confused with Iam64 who is a regular poster.

Wow, well done Nightowl

Jura had lived in England until she and her husband retired. She came to a couple of meet ups in Market Harborough.

I know I was here in 2012...I joined a group of GNs at the hotel by East Midlands Airport..I met Kitty Lester, Tegan....and sorry, forgotten the other names. I was about to divorce and GN members were very supportive..no trolls in those days!

Was it that long ago!!!!

Nightowl was there and, I think, Maw. There was a lady from Nottingham there too but I have forgotten her name.

I think the lady from Nottingham was trendygran. I think she had come to the airport by public transport, which took some doing back then. I haven’t seen her name on here for a long time.
I remember you specki4eyes

Iam64 Mon 13-Jul-26 21:15:58

Yes Jura has frequently joined and left gransnet, registering under various names. I haven’t seen her posting recently. Her style and comments always lead to her previous incarnations being mentioned

LucyAnna5 Mon 13-Jul-26 21:12:58

Wasn’t there another poster who lived in or near Switzerland - Jura?
