A thread for people who have been on GN a long time

I’ve been on a long time as well but I don’t post very often. I think I joined just after my eldest GD was born in 2011. I’ve had a change of name and left for a while after a “discussion” with a poster who was later banned. I remember a lot of names mentioned and used to look forward to reading some posters.

I joined in 2014, as BBbevan, I was asking for advice. Found the site endlessly interesting, so stayed….but mostly ignored.

Though both Gillybob and Phoenix aren't on the list! But they were definitely longstanding contributors.

I joined just before I took early retirement ( in 2014) and do remember quite a few names on the list. Two members that stand out for me are Gillybob and Phoenix. Gillybob was having such a dreadful time, husband ill and I think she had to support her daughter and grandchild, and was worn out with it all; she suddenly stopped posting and I (and lots of other members) were really concerned for her. I hope things improved for her. Phoenix is memorable because she was hilarious, and I can't believe she was banned! Lots of us were really saddened to hear that she had died, she was such a well-loved poster.

I have been following GN for a fair few years but only post now and then (hopefully now I am retired I will have a bit more time)
I remember Marydoll and was wondering what had happened to her but glad she is presumably ok if she is posting regularly on the good morning thread
Also remember Lucca but I think she was sadly terminally ill and last I hear of her she was in hospital so may have passed by now
Was there also someone called GermanShepherdMum on this site or was it Mumsnet? I think she may have had some kind of legal background

Me too Rocketstop2 I was Urmstongram when I joined then a glitch locked me out and HQmods helped me set up again!

Maddyone was banned?? I wondered where she had gone to. What a shame.

I remember Gillybob, as well. She always had so many plates to keep spinning in her life - very hard.

I haven’t noticed a ‘cat’ poster - I must pay more attention to names!

I joined right at the beginning- got the free book! But I’ve only been an occasional visitor until the last 3.5 years (when I actually became a gran😁)

I was also wondering about Big Louis but can't you just say what her username is now, for some reason when I try to think of a ginger cat the name Red Tom keeps popping uninvited into my head !!

I've been on GN quite a long time, first under Rocketstop and then Rocketstop2.I know a lot of the names mentioned in this thread. Somebody upthread was mentioning that they didn't know why people changed their names, it's not always cos of a ban or a falling out. In my case it suddenly just locked me out and I couldn't get back in with my email address and password using same name , so GN had to set up a new account for me.

It's hard to remember how long I've been here. I'm guessing about 8 or 9 years. I recognise quite a few names. I read the posts every day and used to be friends with Phoenix.

Two that I remember but don’t seem to post now are MiceElf and Anonymouse.

I too liked and remembered maddyone. A lovely lady.

I can’t remember the name of this poster, but she had a daughter in NZ she was going through a divorce and wanted to bring the children back to the uk and wasn’t allowed, then the poster needed an operation, think it was her shoulder, or back She seemed to disappear after that.

She is OK. Her name was maddyone, and I speak with her occasionally. She's a delightful person. Her spinal surgery wasn't a great success for her troublesome hand. Maddyone was banned, would you believe? But of course, you'd believe after Allira's departure.

I've been on GN 6 years or so. Some of the longstanding names I recognise, many I don't.

I’m still here hymnbrook and my D Beechnutella has a busy bee life.

I have no idea how long. I’ve been on GN but do recognise most of the ‘old’ names mentioned.
I think I must be on the less memorable or interesting group.😁

The support on Micks good morning thread and soops has been invaluable. It’s easier to talk to strangers than burden friends and family.

I sometimes think of Isabella and always enjoyed her erudite posts.
Not sure exactly when I joined, perhaps about 10 years, an early memory is great gran who went missing later.
I have never changed my name but have recently had messages that my username is compromised and I should change it.
I haven’t, but should I?

I have been around from the very beginning and met up with Grans in Newcastle and in Fife at Marmight's.
I was often in contact with Gillybob and was sad when she left Gransnet but when my DH died she sent me a lovely PM.
In the early days there were a few contributors who were quite abrasive but I didn't let it bother me.
I am so grateful for the support of Gransnet.

I used to meet up with the Edinburgh/Glasgow gang and in October 2012 hosted quite a few (?about 12) in Fife. Those were the days. I just lurk these days with the very rare, obviously insignificant, contribution 🤣. Anyone know what happened to Oldgreymare?
