A thread for people who have been on GN a long time

I was on touch with Gillybob around the time she vanished. I was sad because she was going through a rough time and had been very kind to me.

I remember the stories better than the names. Why do people change their username?

I've only been on about 7 years. I met several of the Edinburgh folk before COVID hit and in recent years I've joined the Glasgow meetups. All have been fun.
Edinburgh folk travelled to St Andrews and to Dundee.

Gransnet has been important to me especially when DH became sick and died but just generally. Thanks.

Where is Kate45, does anyone know?
I liked Gillybob a lot, and I thought perhaps she may have stayed in touch with some people.
Not me, as I only knew her from the forums.
I liked ellenvannin, too.

I too remember gillybob who from being a regular poster, just suddenly stopped.
Her husband was very sick with symptoms which sounded a lot like an early case of Covid which arrived here a few months later.

I wonder if anyone is in touch with her.

So interesting to be reminded of other people who have disappeared, for a variety of reasons I guess.

I joined in 2016 just before the referendum giving us the chance to leave the EU.
I remember posting about it, expecting to see comments from others equally as enthusiastic about leaving as I was, only to find I appeared to be in the minority!

Anyway as we know other folk up and down the country most certainly did agree with me!

My much loved granddaughter turns 12 next month. Im struggling for gift ideas! Shes not girly, loves to draw and is very good. Loves reading, but has a lot of books, that have been bought for her and not read. She goes indoor wall climbing and walks to the ice cream shop with friends. Not interested in clothes and likes to live in joggie bottoms and a tee-shirt. Very clever loves facts and science. Any ideas would be most welcome 🙏

I often wonder what happened to gillybob. We were poles apart in some ways but I admired her tenacity when her husband was seriously ill with Covid and she was struggling to keep their business afloat. She left suddenly but I do hope things worked out for them.

She cared so much about her employees which brought it home how responsible some small business owners feel about the people who work for them.

I remember quite a few of those names, too. I’m not sure how long I’ve been on GN - a fair number of years. I don’t think I’ve ever changed my own name.

Then there was Muse, building off grid with her OH in deepest Cornwall.

I remember following the journey of IsabellaFromThe Shire, IIRC, when I first joined.

Her writings on experiencing the effects of ?Alzheimers, latterly through her helper, were deeply moving.

But, she had the most wonderful descriptive prose about the world around her.

I’ve been here since I became a grandmother but started out on mumsnet because so much had changed since I had children. I wonder what happened to Jane Ainsworth . She lived in the area I live in and often mentioned places I knew.

I’m sorry to hear about Nanaandgrampy. Wasn’t she the lady who used to post wildlife photos in soops kitchen or have I got that wrong?

I remember being on the same wavelength as janerowena where gardening was concerned. I missed her when she left.

Is grannyactivist still around? I was thinking of her the other day when it was on the news that Prince Harry would be visiting Scotty’s Little Soldiers.
I think her daughter, who had lost her husband in Afghanistan, was a founder.

grannyactivist did post again recently ( I say recently but it might have been ages ago…however I remember thinking at the time how good it was to see her post again). I had such respect for her because of the way she had dealt with things and how kind and positive she was.

Yes I do. Also AlisonMA (think that was her name?) She had family who were ballet dancers.

I was in touch with Alison ( not sure if that was her name but it was someone with a ballet connection who used to go to the Brum meet ups) for quite a while but we’ve lost touch over the past few years.

I use to enjoy reading posts from SheepandCattle about their day to day farming life. Always most interesting. And I’m not sure whether my memory serves me correctly on this but wasn’t there a regular poster who had a dog that was badly injured and lost the use of its back legs? I remember we were all rooting for its recovery.

I don't often post but I've been on this site for a good few years.
I would like to know what happened to Gillybob? Beechnut and her nutellas Cornergran Sheep and Cattle the Oops family

Yes. I was thinking about Gillybob recently. And there was someone who was renovating a house in the Borders who had a Golden cocker spaniel.

I often think of nannynoo who was bringing up her autistic grandson by herself.

I remember most of the names mentioned and some, of course, are still with us.

I was thinking about Nina the nana recently because she used to contribute almost daily, and then suddenly didn’t.

Phoenix and Jings both sadly died, each unique in her way.

A lot of the others mentioned either no longer belong to GN, or have name-changed.

It was interesting to remember them though. There was also a woman who used to quote the Bible a lot and had “unusual” opinions, also had a couple of names. That was ages ago now.

I remember Galen, who was a doctor, being very supportive to me when I was facing a hip replacement.

And I remember someone else on the list (who shall remain nameless!) who caused me some grief by trying to track down my address and putting the clues into her posts ... it was creepy! She was removed later ... but not for that as I did not report it.

There have been so many lovely and characterful people who have come and gone over the years. Phoenix of course stands out.

Thank you for support in bad times and some jolly conversations ... and lots of helpful information.

I have a list of the nasty ones to avoid but I think they have all left. There used to be an awful clique.

As kitty; said I’m still here hymnbook, just post less than I did. Little of interest to say these days. I think I joined in 2014 feeling quite adrift after moving area and losing a close friend. GN was a bit of an anchor. I recall many of the names mentioned, was sad to know n&g had died, she was very kind to me and very helpful with anything IT related. I’ve made dear remote GN friends and after meeting another member have forged a close friendship in real life.

I remember EllenVannin as I loved her name but I don’t think she posts any more.

Mamie I had another different name then…began with BB. I was newly diagnosed with T2 diabetes. Still not on any medication, so thankyou.

So pleased it worked. DH has had type 2 diabetes completely managed by diet on his medical history ever since. Must be over 10 years now?
