What colours remind you of your childhood home?

When mum and dad got their council house which was home until they died, dad had the chance of some cheap paint to do the woodwork with. The house had not had much upkeep due to the previous tenants being very elderly. The trouble was the paint was wedge wood blue. Years later, after it was painted white gloss any chips you could see this blue! Imagine windows sills bannisters the lot blue!
In the end the house was done in magnolia as it was nice and neutral did for them before they both passed.
Mum had great scope in the 1970s she was in her element. The kitchen had a big flower and sort of building blocks in the dining area on wallpaper. The rest of the kitchen was yellow so nice and cheerful.
Bathroom was lilac which was in the kitchen one time. The lilac paint was replaced with an aquatic style paper with big multi colored fish on with big reeds.
The bedrooms make me laugh. We had a sort of striped paper gold stripes and in my bedroom the back was yellow. My sister had same with a purple background she was going through a very purple phase. Mum and dad had one with a cream background.

The house I grew up in was bought by my parents after the death of the previous owner, who had had no heirs, so some furniture and furnishings were left in the house.

My parents had married in 1947, so they were only too happy to receive and odd conglomeration of stuff with the house.

I remember a deep red carpet in one of the rooms. I thought it was beautiful when I was little, but realised later how worn it was, a grey and pink stair-carpet, the green lino in my bedroom (never saw dark green lino anywhere else even though we lived fairly near Kirkcaldy) the mock parquet lino in two or three other rooms, the brown Voctorian paint on practically all the woodwork , and the grey stone the house was built with. The furniture was all in varying shades of brown too.

I really don't remember any colours from my childhood and am surprised at the precise recollections of so many of you, I think I must be lacking in something!

All our rooms were painted in magnolia and we used to tease my Dad about it. He was a painter and decorator and insisted magnolia always looked clean and fresh and never dated.
Thinking about it we had a wall in the kitchen papered with pots and pans on it.

BlueBelle my memories are from my early teens. Our previous house, a rental, I can only remember Lino and a gas geyser for hot water that petrified me.

Too many to remember, mum used to get fed up with the wallpaper quite often and she would rip some off so that dad had to repaper it all. Carpets were all multicoloured, woodwork always white.

Multi-coloured because one year it needed painting outside and my dad used up all the old cans of paint. No other house was as colourful and as a little girl I always thought it looked happy whatever the season.

The older generation do recycling like no other since them I always say!

Black and white -Dad painted the house outside and Ford Zodiac car in the same black and white gloss !

Cannot remember colours but can remember our back garden. Lovely long green grass, dark brown soil & lots of pink & red roses my Mum grew. Pop grew dozens of Chrysanthemums of all colours. A light brown brick wall & darker brown shed of Pop’s! Played in that garden for hours every time my brother & I could. 70+ years later still remember all the details but blurry inside. Weird right?

Like you Oreo I have absolutely no definite memories of any furniture or colours absolutely amazed at what people can remember
Only thing I can remember is Nan having a big black coloured piano and my grandad had a large radiogram and grandfather clock in the hallway and that’s really all
No idea what wallpaper, or colours any rooms were perhaps

Good question. I’m coming up with dark brown. But this was post-war Britain,

Beige & white walls & brown carpets in the first house I remember. Then we moved to a new build in the 60s and my Mum went all Scandinavian. She was very artistic and it was as if she had been freed from post war restrictions and my Dads conservative, with a small c, inclinations. My room was turquoise with orange embellishments. Brightly coloured accessories - cushions, lampshades and table cloths and paintings which she made, suddenly appeared. 🥳

My dad was very arty and chose all sort of state of the art 1960s colour and furniture. We had dark red and light green wallpaper in the sitting room. I still have some of the pieces of G plan furniture and ornaments. I was offered £500 for my dining room suite a couple of years ago.

We had eau de nil (pale green) in the bathroom. It was always that colour, repainted as needed. The kitchen/living room was a pale shade of pink and the sitting room was woodchip wallpaper. I don't remember the original colour Dad painted it, but DH and I painted it pale green as a surprise when Mam and Dad were away on holiday.

Colours that remind me of my childhood home are:

I saw "our" kitchen table on tv a whole back.

I remember that when I was 15, and my brother went off to university, I was given his bigger bedroom.

My parents redecorated it for me, making it really nice, and they even bought me some new, modern furniture for it - but try as I might, I can't recall any of the colours that were used. Not the curtains, the walls, the carpet - nothing!

On reflexion, I do remember that the new bedroom furniture was white - well, I think so!!!

Red and yellow in the kitchen, brown and orange flowery paper in the living room, purple and lilac in our room.
Ornge in the bathroom, amd I can't remembe my paremts room.

Pale green carpet in the living room and deep red in the dining room, parquet flooring in the hall - my Mum loved that parquet.

Grey. Lots of shades of grey. My mother loved grey and black but always with white paintwork so we lived in a monochrome world!
One day, she got bored with it and painted the kitchen cupboards peacock blue which looked amazing.
Fortunately, I was allowed to choose the colour scheme for my bedroom so that was all done in shades of blue which I loved.
To this day, I loathe grey and it will never feature in my home decor.

Brown inside, green and cream outside.
Our hall had lovely tiles, brown, red, orange, black.

‘Porridge’ coloured wallpaper everywhere, and brown paint. That was in the house we moved to in 1959. My folks didn’t waste much time getting rid of the ‘porridge’ and brown!

Have been giving this subject a lot of thought this morning 😄as so many of you recall so much furnishings.I honestly can’t remember much at all, not even about my own room let alone the living room, called the front room at the time.
I do recall that wooden furniture was dark and that it was all inherited so massive wardrobes and downstairs a strange dark sideboard thing that also had an oval mirror and wooden surround on it, probably all Victorian.
We moved house when I was around 7 but before that I vaguely remember a three piece suite which was burgundy in colour with a small cream pattern on it, but that may have been left behind or sold or given away later.
After much memory searching the sofa and chairs in the front room of the house we moved to was more modern looking like a tweed pattern and a bit bobbly, moquette? Not sure that’s the right spelling.And that, surprisingly is all I remember of my childhood homes😲

21 homes by the time I was 21 (forces family). A childhood lived in army quarters or hirings, so probably magnolia.

Green and cream. Very 1930s, but still around in the 50s in our home.
