Having to go out to blockbusters rather than look for a movie on netflix.

Taking quite a large transistor radio on Sunday walks with the parents so you didn't miss the top 40.
Actually I do miss some of these things.

I’ve still got mine from back then. I wanted a record player but my mum sensibly told me I’d be better off with a transistor radio as we were very poor and I couldn’t afford to buy the records anyway.

Postal orders from Nan at Christmas.

Only having a tiny amount of pocket money, I had a shilling a week until I got my Saturday job in Woolworth. It's amazing what I saved up for and bought with that though. Leather shoes from FHW for £2.10 shillings.

I remember the aching arms and shoulders in the days before wheelie suitcases.

Lavatory at the farm end of the backyard, particularly in bad weather.

Far end no farms where I lived.

We argued so much about it that my dad allocated us specific days of the week to do the washing and drying - the compromise was that he had to do it himself on a Saturday so we had the same days every week.

My sister and I were supposed to take it in turnsCasdon she conveniently needed the toilet when it was her turn to dry!

Ha! Mine too Jaxjacky!
One evening my brother and I waited until she came sauntering into the kitchen, then said, "We'll start now you're here"
Her face was a picture! 😂
She actually said, "I thought you'd be finished by now" 😐

^Trying to tape your favourite songs from the radio and the DJ speaking before the song finished.^

Or your granny speaking and you knowing there was no point trying to indicate you want hush as she'd be sure to just speak more & louder.

Also trying to eat quietly without clattering the cutlery as the charts were on at dinner time. Sunday night I think.

Talking of radios, we used to have to turn a knob in order to find a radio station (strange noises in between stations). Now, they're either preset or searched for automatically.

Me too, my sister and I rook it in turns to wash and dry, it was nightly torture.

Jaxjacky Sun 26-Jul-26 21:00:15

Washing up or drying after meals, no dishwashers, I detested drying.

Phoning boy/girl/friend out loud (no texting) and in a freezing hallway on a phone with a short flex!

The only thing to watch on tv after Christmas dinner other than the Queens Speech was Billy Smarts bloody Circus! I hate circuses and always have done .

If you were fortunate enough to go on holiday, no tray with a little kettle on it and sachets of tea, coffee and milk. No en suite bathrooms - you had to share with all the other families on your floor, although you might have had a wash basin in your room in your room if you were lucky. Strictly no return to the guest house between the hours of 10 am and 5 pm, whatever the weather.

Gosh yes. I remember we stayed in a place nr Great Yarmouth that didn't even have a lock on the door, shared bathroom, absent parents who were in the guest house bar whilst any Tom, Dick and Harry could've come in

Ziplok

No same day delivery 🤣🤣

But we did get two deliveries from Royal Mail, every day except Sundays.

Suzieque66 Tue 21-Jul-26 08:43:01

Having to stand or kick the TV as the aerial doesn't work !!!

Skynnylynny Mon 20-Jul-26 22:42:50

My DF worked in a grocers shop before WW2 and if a customer sent or rang an order in, he would have to pick it, pack it and load it onto his bike and cycle round to their house to deliver it on the same day.
So I’m sorry Ziplock but same day delivery was happening a long time ago.

That’s very suspicious of you Dickens?🤔

Yes. I agree.

If you do a little research you will see that this seemingly harmless spate of asking questions is a phenomenon affecting various social media, and that it is not necessarily benign in nature.

Analysts have advised caution when responding to such posts. Because some are mining your information. But, research it yourself.

I think it's a legitimate question, since there are so many of them. If it's a harmless exercise, the OP will not mind answering.
