For anyone who’s watched ‘Ann Droid’ ( and for those who haven’t ) would you consider a Robot companion?

Sue Johnston is very good in the comedy series The Cockfields, set on the Isle of Wight, another amusing and quirky series with some sad moments now and then.Again, it’s really about a mother and grown up son relationship but the writing is better than the Ann Droid series even tho the characters are just as strange in their own way they seem more loveable to me.

Yes please to a Linda who can do all my admin, especially after a few days of pure frustration and hair pulling..him upstairs can't really do it anymore so its all my job

Not a robot but Ann Droid reminded me of the Ann Reid character in Years and Years with her Alexa ( or whatever hers was called). I don’t have Alexa but I’ve got Siri on my iPad and it is part way to having another person in the house.

In answer to the OP, I’m not sure . I can see good and bad sides.
As for the programme, we watched the first one this evening but shall not bother with the rest. It was dire.

Definitely a robot for me. I've been wanting a PA for ages and don't mind if it's human or robotic.
A handsome male would obviously be my preference, but anyone that helped with chores and admin would be welcome.

Back in the sixties many science fiction films showed people having household robots in the year 2000 + and I really thought that it would be the norm in the future. I was very disappointed when the year 2000 arrived and not much had changed. However, it looks as if they may now become a reality in the not too distant future so I would really like one to do all the hated household chores. A nice handsome male one would be nice - only joking DH suits me fine!

They won't be long before they are 'a thing'........when I was in Singapore 2 years ago at a modest hotel ( a yotel) and they had robots which brought you room service....a 'female' robot brought us clean towels once

Yes I think I would, it would take the pressure off my DD, as she doesn't live local, I remember how tied I felt when my own DM was home alone, she would have loved to have someone to talk to in her mother tongue and be able to help with personal care with any embarrassment.

Budgies are cute but can they change bedding or play chess with you?

Yes I would definitely if I lived alone and was older.To help around the house and be a companion, what’s not to like?
It would eradicate loneliness for a lot of people and not just for seniors.

I haven’t watched Ann Droid but I’d probably like a robot companion to start with then get bored with it and put it in a cupboard. Unless it did the housework. Might keep it onside if it did that.
