You must be old if you have a purse or a wallet.

I have just read a news item that states if you have a purse or a wallet, carry store cards or have cash then you are definitely old!

Today's bright young things have no need for anything but their phones.

What happens when said phones are stolen or lost?

So do you have a purse or a wallet?

Well, i always carry a handbag so I have both in it. If i'm just shopping in the vilkage I might just take my phone.

Until recently one of our hospital car park's was cash only. Lots of people have been glad i had cash with me.

I like to hedge my bets - I usually use my phone, but I have all the cards too. I’m not worried about my phone getting lost or stolen so much as me forgetting I’ve left it at home or in the car on charge, or dropping it. I also keep and use cash, it’s just easier for small purchases, and it’s a back up when all else fails.

OP What happens when said phones are stolen or lost?

What happens when said purse or wallet containing the cash is stolen or lost especially if it also contains debit and credit cards?

Be prepared for every eventuality.
Who knows these days what is going to be asked for.
We in the back woods still have some parking ticket machines that only accept coins.
Well I AM old.

I am old in years but nothing to do with the cash v card business.
I carry my card and have various club and store cards on my phone. I always carry some cash which came in very useful at an art gallery café recently when, you guessed it, their card reader wasn't working.

I volunteer in our community store on the till each week and although most customers pay by card many don't and not just the old ones either.

It's a bit of a trek to the nearest ATM but sometimes needs must.

I have two purses. There is nothing in either of them. My cards are in a separate anti cloning case and everything else is on my phone. On holiday recently when we ate out, and this was in every restaurant/cafe, we paid with a card as none of the took cash. We were in Staffordshire.

I used to have a very small purse which carried cards, change and notes, plus a key on a chain. I changed it for an old multi-coloured wallet, purse. card holder because I carried more,
I use cash, cards and notes,
I am old and I don't care, it suits me.
This is like these silly lists that appear at Christmas time about naff presents and what they reveal about you.
Mug holders was one, just after my son, on his own initiative, and bought one because I had so many mugs. I threw the magazine away.

I have a lovely, bright pink leather purse the DDs bought me a couple of Christmas’s ago - I carry it everywhere, unless I’m walking Little Dog, then I have my phone with a tenner in the cover, just in case.
Don’t care if it’s seen as dated/old fashioned - it’s a distinctive make and I love it.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 22-Jul-26 16:35:31

Oh, and I have lots of purses - all colours, shapes and sizes. . Mostly given to me as presents. I use them all the time.

One of the recommendations in view of a national crises, is that we all have 3 months (I think) worth of cash stored away in the house.

I haven’t yet, but I guess if things are looking dodgy I might consider it.

yes I have a purse, and I'm looking for another one as this one is very worn at the edges, I always have some cash in it too, along with cards, and I only have a paygo phone, so I'm old..

Based on that theory I must be ancient…..I have several purses! And actually, we have been saving our medication blister packs because Boots recycle those now and you can accrue points on the Advantage Card but it is such a blessed faff, can only be done a certain number of times per calendar month, you have to log in to Boots free WiFi in store, get a code from one place and then redeem the voucher within 5 MINUTES! Right pita! Not bothering again as it made me feel ten years older!!

Do they have to be yours? & do they have to come from boots?

Prescription meds and non-prescription meds and didn’t seem to matter where they were sourced either. Just a complete faff and not worth the brain strain!

Just bought myself a beautiful Radley purse I have been admiring for a long time. I hate that owning one is now classed as old!

I use a Radley purse that my daughter gave me. It's just a very small one, but I do like to keep some cash on me, mainly as we buy our free range eggs from a local smallholder and it's easier to use cash for those, but also for other bits and bobs too.

I use my phone for paying. Very rarely take a purse out. I do keep a bit of cash at home just in case though.

Always have a purse with me. A few weeks ago met up with DiL and grandkids she was going to purchase something for me on line offered to pay her she declined until said item arrived, she said she laughed Dgs1 said who has £100 in their purse he's used to seeing them pay by phone or card.

I still have a purse , there’s rarely cash in it. Just credit and debit cards , plus store or loyalty cards . I have them all in the wallet on my phone . But sometimes there’s a poor or minimal wifi connection so I like to have physical cards as well .

When the supermarket terminals were down they couldn’t use their cards. The machine outside was closed as it was out of action.

Definitely and I love my purse. My late Mum bought it for me and we chose it together. Beautiful soft leather in purple and black.

Cash is still king in our house although I do use my card for main weekly shop. I often forget to take my phone so I would be well and truly stuffed.

It certainly is 👍🏻

Having read the original post I've realised that I also no longer take a purse with me now when I go out. I'd normally take my bus pass in a case which holds a credit card and also my keys which have loyalty card fobs attached.
I don't put my credit cards details on my phone simply because I don't take my phone every time that I go out, and I don't use a handbag - just a small canvas shopper.
I started to do this because I go to the gym several times a week and was worried that my phone might be stolen.
I'd only take the "full works" if I was going to a department store or M&S, with a bigger bag, my purse and all the cards that I normally don't use.
