Are we growing accustomed to the heatwave?

Still uncomfortable in London but nights are cooler and some days we have cloud and a breeze.
Am not getting used to it, still hoping and praying this weather breaks and we get some rain because I can see how much the natural environment needs it.

No complaints from me, I love it, but here in the North East, I know we’ve been up to 10 degrees cooler than other areas of the UK.

Oh, and we have had quite a bit of thin cloud cover coming and going this last week too, which helps a lot. It has been nothing like as unbearable here (West Northants) as what came before it.

I am one of those who has stopped moaning about the heatwave.
This is not because I have got used to it, but because the temperature has been around 10° lower over the last week or more - only mid-twenties, rather than mid- thirties. Considerably cooler overnight, too

For me personally it is perfect at the moment.
If it goes back up into thirties again (or even the high twenties) I will definitely be moaning again.

My DS has been doing up his house in France. He told me today that it feels much fresher at 31 degrees. It was 36 before. He did say he had got used to the heat.

No, I'm not getting used to the heatwaves. My body with all it's medical conditions has decided that anything over 20° is unlivable. So, I'm spending most of this summer inside my house unable to do much of anything. Queue cabin fever and boredom. hugs

nanna8

You do get used to it but an AC helps at night.Witness those living up in Darwin and FNQ, they feel very cold in the ‘normal’ temps.

Sorry nanna8 my observations were of the UK only - I’m sure you have different conditions to deal with where you are!

NE Mids here and the nights are so much more comfortable but I’m not sure if that’s customisation or coincidence tbh. We generally get any heavy jobs done early in the day and relax during the hotter part of the afternoon.
We are desperate for water for the garden as all our water butts are empty and even though we capture the first run of water when running the hot taps we’re still having to fill watering cans from the outside tap.
Don’t get me started on the irresponsible neighbour who filled the GC paddling pool and then emptied it down their drive …literally gallons of water wasted !!!

I absolutely hate it. However, we have a nice breeze today. With any luck we might get a shower but it'll take more than that to revive the poor grass and plants.
I hate to think what Clarkson's Farm will look like. Another major loss making year for all farmers 🙁

Temperature here is 'only' 26 degrees. It was nearer 35 during the height of the heat wave. 26 degrees is hotter than it has been for several weeks. Once the temperature hits over 30 again, I will start complaining gain.

The main problem I've had with the heatwaves is the warm nights that stopped me sleeping. Temperatures are so much lower now at night even when the day is warm that I can sleep. Temperatures during the day round here are about 5 degrees lower than they were - still very warm and sunny but not so hot you can't breathe.

I believe you are right MawsRosie. I look forward to being able to sit out in the garden late into the evening as it is still warm enough at 9pm. A very rare joy in this country.

I’m noticing far fewer people moaning or complaining about the heat even although temperatures, at least hereabouts, are close to what they were a couple of weeks ago. Admittedly the nights and early mornings have been fresher and some days there’s been a pleasant breath of wind and that’s made a huge difference.
But apart from that, have we perhaps also adapted and adjusted our lifestyle ? Curtains shut, windows opened while it’s cool, shut when it warms up, walking on the shady side of the street, no midday or afternoon dog walks, given up on our lawns ( mine is like walking on crisp packets) cool comfort over fashion and (in my case) a distinctly under-used cooker?
I think this is traditionally one of our problems, the frequent variations in the weather have meant that just as we get used to it, it changes again - a bit like other times of the year when we sometimes seem to get 3 if not 4 seasons in one day!
I’m hoping this is the case- as it looks as if there’s more to come 🌞🌞🌞🌞
