At the top of the hour, instead of say 12 o’clock or Noon.

Suzieque66 Mon 27-Jul-26 16:49:14

Wha Eva !

"Two times" rather than twice. Even the BBC uses that.

"Hiya" at the start of a message or email.

Someone saying ‘giving you the heads up’.

WelshPoppy Mon 27-Jul-26 15:22:25

I'm late 60s and have used At the top of the hour most of my life, it's not modern

grannybuy Mon 27-Jul-26 15:20:38

Yum!

At primary school in Scotland, we were taught to use had gotten for past tense.

Mom - unless it’s in America.

Super anything .
Missing T out of words drives me insane. Every time my grandsons missed T out of wa-er when they were younger I corrected them. the eldest recently informed me that his school friends thought he was posh because he said water.

The adjective "nice" !!

This is such a poor adjective to describe something beautiful or lovely or gorgeous ..

It is a dull meaningless word.

My opinion !!!!!

I taught in a high school. Some English counties still retain a 3 tier system, First school, Middle school and High school.

Bazza Mon 27-Jul-26 14:51:07

Most of the above, but the word that really riles me is haitch for the letter H. It’s aitch!! It seems to be used more and more, or perhaps I’m just listening for it to happen.

Also shorpodist for chiropodists. We don’t say shiropractor.
The chiropodist who looks after our feet says it drives her mad.

I'm also not very keen on 'passed away' although I'm fine with 'passed on' as it implies they've gone to the next life.

RobertaDanversWalker Mon 27-Jul-26 14:49:13

The over use of "iconic". Iconic building, iconic restaurant, iconic item of clothing, iconic venue, iconic this, iconic that. Stop saying everything is iconic!!!

Patrice53 Mon 27-Jul-26 14:47:33

To shade someone is so silly and to call someone out is used everywhere

GrammaH Mon 27-Jul-26 14:47:01

Loads that people have mentioned but also abbreviations like merch, dupe, awks , fam & delish particularly the last one, cringe!!

fluttERBY123 Mon 27-Jul-26 14:43:14

Nobody fights any more, they battle. Battle never even used to be a verb.

Estrellita Mon 27-Jul-26 14:36:34

What do My bad and the ick mean?

Patrice53 Mon 27-Jul-26 14:30:00

The words to shade someone is so silly and to call someone out is used all the time

gransruleok Mon 27-Jul-26 14:27:25

Hollibobs - especially when used by adults - puke

Grandma70s Mon 27-Jul-26 14:22:29

charliebb

Referring to death as 'passed'. This irritates me intensely. A person doesn't pass, they die!

Couldn't agree more. It makes me cringe, and seems to be increasingly common. ‘Passed away” is as bad.

Alison333 Mon 27-Jul-26 14:15:36

Alison333

'Passed' (passed what?) So twee! What's wrong with died?

charliebb Sorry! Same point!

I think to slay someone is so silly and also to put shade on someone. I can remember years ago when people always called everything brill never heard it for a long time
