I only knew one pair of twins at pony club but I taught twins called Victoria and Albert Hall. 😂

😂😂😂 Although I wonder what they felt about their names because it must have become so annoying seeing people's reactions all the time. It's a brilliant joke but not for them I imagine, only getting free of the joke once they went their separate ways.

Twins are very interesting and very important to researchers because of the genetic background.
You have started an interesting thread. Roughly where in the USA are you?
Are there twins in your family?

My father had a twin sister and my MiL was also a non-identical twin, so no real surprise when my fourth pregnancy resulted in twin girls - but these were identical which does not have any family connection.

Following their birth, I was one of founders of what back then in the 1970's was called the Twins Clubs Association (now The Twins Trust).
Through that I met hundreds of sets of twins and triplets, etc.

One of the funniest comments I heard was when a friend with a boy/girl twins in a pram, having said that is what they were, was then asked if they were identical!!!! She pointed out that there were some quite obvious differences.

I have twin GC , a boy and a girl . They are both delightful. When they were tiny the boy depended heavily on his outgoing sister but now at 16 the girl is the less confident one. They remain very close still and support each other. They have joint friends and go round in a group that they have known since they were little.

At grammar school' I was very pally with a twin girl. her twin also went to the same school but apart from their colouring they wer't alike. One was taller and a bit more bigger built.
The smaller one attracted quite a lot of boyish attention but they were both realy nice girls.
There was also a set of boy and girl twins at school who obviouslyhad seperate friends.
My daughter attended playgroup in the 70s and there was a set of twins there who were like peas in a pod. lovely girls.
Later I worked with a twin and met her sister - they looked identical and had same hairstyle but one had blue eyes and the other had brown. Don't know if they had the same traits but although they lived seperately they seemed to get on really well together .
I have never come across 2 male twins at any time in my life.

One of my daughter's friends had, at one point, five boys 3 and under; twins, a single and twins again!

In Finland on holiday years ago I met little blonde twins - and they are much more common there.

Also, at a playgroup, I once saw two-year-old triplets... very confusing to see three identical little girls running around!

I’ve hardly ever known any, but a colleague’s daughter’s first pregnancy was twins, and there was an identical set at my senior school, but very sadly one of them died after just a few years.

Twins are in my brothers family through his wife several sets, at school some identical some not. I don't notice many in general contacts so I suppose most eventually go separate ways.

I have identical twin grandsons. It has been fascinating watching them grow up. They are 20 now and very close but very different personalities.

I've met lots of twins over the years. My friend who came to supper tonight is a twin but not identical so they are like ordinary siblings.
I knew a woman who had 2 sets of twins, 5 years apart. 2 boys and 2 girls

I went to primary and secondary with non identical twins. Sadly before our school reunion this year on of them died.

Mollygo Fri 31-Jul-26 22:25:22

There were 11 pairs of twins in primary school. All of them identical twins. A bit Midwich Cuckooish!

In my junior school we had 4 sets of twins, 3 were girls and 1 boys. I could differentiate the boys and one set of the girls, but the others were so difficult to tell apart, and used to make it harder by swapping ribbons etc to mix it up.

MawsRosie Fri 31-Jul-26 21:30:05

I think you mean pairs

MissAdventure Fri 31-Jul-26 21:27:57

I don't think I've ever met twins, and yet I find the whole concept fascinating.

Aely Fri 31-Jul-26 21:18:43

I knew one pair of twins. They went to the boy's Grammar School and I met them at rehearsals for the joint Play we put on. I mentioned them to my mother. She said "But you already knew them!" Seems she and their mother would turn up at the baby clinic at the same time. My memory might be good but it didn't extend back quite that far!

Sadly, one of them was knocked down and killed not long after we all left school.

I knew one pair of identical twins at school, but then became the father of twins, so I got to know quite a few at the local twins' club. I knew another pair in the course of my work, and know another pair now. There is a pair in DW's family, but I have never met them.

crazyH Fri 31-Jul-26 20:51:01

One pair - male and female. They were my daughter’s friends - two of the loveliest young people I’ve had the pleasure of knowing.

Redrobin51 Fri 31-Jul-26 20:40:08

watermeadow Fri 31-Jul-26 20:32:44

Non identical twins run in families and mine has lots. They are no more alike in any way than any other siblings.
I’ve seen identical triplets about six times, most were boys.

Cossy Fri 31-Jul-26 19:41:04

We have identical twin nieces and our DiL is also an identical twin.

Both our DD’s had twins in their primary school classes and one had two sets of twins in her class.

JamesandJon33 Fri 31-Jul-26 19:38:28

Just two I think. One set in my class at grammar school, and I taught a non identical, girl, boy pair.
