Frustration with Tesco high ups!!

Yes folks, I am back with you and already rattled today! I went on the yellow peril today to my local Tesco, trying to go at a quieter time. They have now altered three checkouts to a do it yourself card system. Now whilst I have no objection to them adding to the options, to have them take 3 checkouts from the staffed ones, is extremely annoying, and as there is no way I could use them (well I could try but the queue behind me would be very long!) we are being turned into second class customers. So today there was literally one customer using that , whilst the rest of us obviously had to wait longer to be served .

I spoke to a staff member and she said that they are popular at weekends but disliked by staff and customers both in the week, especially as they cannot be switched over as and when it would suit them. She said that she has to stand around, looking at empty tills, in case people need help with this system and it is both boring and she also gets customers complaining to her, when she has no say over what happens.

I am very organised, and take strong and other bags to have at the ready, loading the heavier things on first, putting the bag ready with them, and the lighter things to follow. Have my clubcard at the ready, and the checkout person puts things into the bag as they go, so that at the end, I pay with my card, they pass me my bags and off I go. I thank them for their help, and do not complain to them, but have sent my comments to Tesco head office. To ADD more choice, but which is still their way of getting us to do all the work is one thing, but to remove checkouts , I think, is not acceptable.

Ah well ,on a more pleasant note , it was a grey looking day, unfortunately no rain, but quite a breeze, so I was able to take a large bag of books to the hospice shop, which they were pleased to receive. I dont know about others but I am in no sort of routine right now but governed by the weather. So its a case of doing things on any cooler days.Will see what tomorrow brings

Tesco irritates me also. I do online shopping, they no longer supply bags so I have found a large cardboard box. The mean stands at the door, holding the crate and in double quick time I am supposed to put everything into my box. I am 82, disabled and partially sighted so I find that difficult and even worse, dragging the box through to my kitchen.

I have filled in reviews, but it has been a tick box exercise with no space to put any thoughts or complaints.

They are doing well in store and online. Online there were so many items out of stock it was ridiculous. Other supermarkets have problems also.

We went to Tesco today, so far they have a few self service checkouts which I use if I have a few items, but mainly they have staffed checkouts, all with friendly checkout operators.

The staff stacking the shelves were also very helpful too so I do hope management doesn't decide to change everything.

Charleygirl, if you are less able, they are supposed to bring the crates in and put them on a table or worktop then wait while you unpack each one or to help you unpack.

I didn’t know this so like CharleyGirl I have been transferring groceries into a couple of bags for life and chucking any that won’t fit into a laundry basket at the front door whilst the man holds the crate. My DH can’t help because he is disabled. Then I drag everything into the kitchen because it is too heavy to carry.
Tbh I got so sick of this that I now use Ocado which puts groceries in carrier bags.

We have Morrisons deliveries and the driver always carries the crates in and puts them on a worktop in the kitchen. Some unload them too without being asked.

Charley Tesco did have a facility to say you need help in the delivery box nite on the book a slot page. Just say you need the crates carrying in due to disability. You don’t need to give details. I think you only need to do it once. Something we did during lockdown, it always worked. Worth a try I think. You shouldn’t have to struggle.
