If you had asked that a few days ago I would have said over fifty years ago, but I actually saw one yesterday 😁
Oh, wonderful! 😄👍
They were a huge part of my childhood, regarded as a bit eccentric even in the 1950s, but we had so many happy holidays and family outings - mom and dad in their leathers on the bike; little sister and me with the dog in the sidecar; luggage in the panniers and strapped to the open boot lid of the sidecar. On fine days, we'd roll back the sidecar's sun roof and cruise along, all singing loudly - anything from Ten Green Bottles to Daisy, Daisy. Most of the village thought us a bit bonkers but we didn't care. Sadly, my dad developed arthritis in his fingers and, in the mid 60s, the big old Panther motorcycle rig got traded in for a car. Sometimes, if I close my eyes on a quiet evening, I think I can still hear the steady thump-thump-thump of that bike's engin as it hauled us for so many happy miles.🙂
