Can Openers

that's good to know, I have difficulty opening cans too.I just recently bought a gadget that opens ring pulls, from Care Co
and it's good,also a jar opener, I find that jars are a devil to open,no strength in my hands. Thanks for the tip

pably15 I am at a stage I can barely open anything. For a jar, I run boiling water around it and no problem. That is interesting to know about ring-pull openers because I use a pair of scissors and sometimes the ring-pull breaks.

I need a sharp knife to open eg a pack of sirloin steak and even scissors for a bar of chocolate or biscuits.

I have one. It is good. If you leave it it will stop itself. It seems to have a set length of time and then stops - I guess it allows for big tins.

I have one and it has been great. Sometimes you think it hasn't cut the top off but if you give it a pull it does come off. Mine stopped working after about 8 months and I contacted them and they replaced it.

I wish someone would invent a gadget to open bleach/toilet cleaner bottles.

Ours works really well on corned beef tins.

I have the JML one. It's excellent and the batteries last for ages. I couldn't be without it.

i've got a rechargeable one from amazon. sometimes it takes a bit of patience to get it going but it opens the can in the end.
i've also got a little blue gadget to open rung pull tins - even tins of cola. saves so much swearing!
and i've got another gadget for opening jars and bottles - i've no idea where it came from as I found it in the kitchen drawer when I moved into my house in 1994 together with a garlic crusher and something else. it's been very useful as it's got various sizes.

I have a stand up one, worked really well but is now getting a bit fiddly. Looking at the JML one so might give it a try 👍. Completely agree with you Mazgg. I have to leave my bleach bottles out until I have a visitor and then ask them to open them for me! Then remember not to screw the lid back on too tight! 😩

Get a cheapish plug in electric can opener from somewhere like Argos.

I've had one for years. Opens anything from a can of peas to awkward tins of sardines, when the poorly designed, ring pull jams.

Agree bleach bottles are impossible. Got my battery hand operated opener from cooper's at bishop Stortford. They are online.

Anyone got tips for opening screw top wine bottle? Would love to have a glass but only think about it in evening when on own

I've always found opening bottles/jars easier if you don your Marigolds first: it gives you more grip.

Having carpal tunnel I have invested in an electric opener none of them have ever cost more than £15. They are super and most have other bits on them like bottle openers I could not manage without it

My DM used to have a tin opener screwed onto the kitchen door. It had a longer handle that was easy to turn, unlike the usual kind which need a lot of strength 💪 in the hand to operate.

No but it's reminded me of how my DM would open a door fully then hold the neck of bottles between the door (hinge side) and the architrave, close the door on the bottle neck to hold it in place. Then holding the door close she'd open the bottle. Hope I've explained it right. It worked every time.

I bought the Lantana can opener from Amazon a few years ago. It's brilliant. No sharp edges and you can use the top as a lid if you don't need all the contents immediately.

Works on round and other tin shapes - i.e. Fray Bentos Pies and Corned Beef.

I've since bought them as a birthday gift for all my friends and family and they have all been delighted
