What a difference a day makes 😢😢

Yesterday my daughter and daughter-in-law were busy grumbling about how slow their first house purchase is taking and wishing it would speed up as they signed their contract 5 weeks ago.

Today my sweet DiL, who’s carry DD baby went into spontaneous labour and after waters broke and baby was upside down with umbilical cord separating, she had an emergency C section and then at 13:00 baby Henry was born at 24.9 weeks, weighing 1lb 6oz.

We are all hoping for a good outcome in the end, please pray to whatever God or spiritual being or keep your fingers crossed that baby Henry comes through this.

DD and DiL in shock and baby about to be transferred to a Neonatal Unit in a hospital nearly 40 miles away. This is their first baby and first try at IVF. He’s so tiny (I couldn’t see him but DD sent photos) 😢

Wonderful news that Henry didn't need the surgery to his heart, what a bonus that was 😊
Enjoy your visit later today Cossy.

Update

Lovely visit to see Henry on Saturday, along with DD and DiL.

Henry opened his eyes, very briefly whilst I was quietly speaking to him.

Of course, he cannot see or focus nor has pigment developed, so his eyes are black, but it is the first time I’ve seen him open his eyes.

He’s looking a much better colour and was wriggling.

Two issues, this week;

Henry has very “wet lungs”, apparently quite normal for an extremely preterm baby. Lots of X rays to monitor and possibly more steroids this week.

Discussion have taken place about moving him again, either back to Homerton, or to Royal London.

This has really unsettled both girls. DD is autistic and change really triggers her, especially unplanned and “maybe”.

DiL is struggling to produce and pump enough breast milk, so little one is having donor milk. She is so stressed.

Our biggest concern is lack of accommodation at Homerton, they have 16 NICU cots, but only 3 parent rooms.

Girls refusing to discuss it and have asked us not to ask either them or the hospital staff about it. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Bit frustrating at the moment.

When he is able to breath unaided, which might happen in around 4-5 weeks, he might be able to return to his birth hospital, very local to girls new home, and to us and the in-laws.

Onwards and upwards.

🙏🙏🙏🤞🤞🤞

As aways, warm wishes and thoughts to all Gransnetters going through tough times themselves.

Thanks for the update Cossy more positive news but I can see what a long time it is going to be before Henry is home where he should be.
It is unsettling for your girls and I can understand why they don’t want to discuss future moves.
They are living through a very difficult time and it must be so hard to process.
We all expect a pregnancy to last approximately 40 weeks and then bring home a healthy baby.

Their reality is so different and they are struggling to cope.
I pray so much that things get easier for them and they can look to a future without worry and stress.

Everything that UTBB says. Thank you for the update Cossy

Your poor girls are going through so many emotions trying to hold it all together and your love and support shines out from your posts, cossy.
All we can do is keep sending our best wishes and hope for Henry’s continued improvement.
Stay strong! ❤️

Love to all of you Cossy flowersx

Thank you for the lovely update, Cossy. The thought of a move must feel quite intimidating. Why do the professionals feel it’s needed? flowers

Whitewavemark2 Mon 07-Sept-26 13:52:06

Thanks for the update. I would feel just like your DD (autistic or not!) I would want to cling onto the hospital that has got him through to now and “knows” him.

But in truth, it must be good news, because it means that he is well enough to leave such intensive care.

Moth62 Mon 07-Sept-26 14:08:21

What a heartwarming visit you had with baby Henry. As for his mummies, they will be pulled every which way at the moment, not helped by their presumably still ongoing house purchase. As someone else has said, I can absolutely see why they would just want to keep him “safe” where he is amongst staff who they feel know him. Is it a cot shortage situation? Perhaps GOSH is really only for emergency situations, such as you were facing and they now feel that he is over the worst and is well enough to go somewhere where he can just “grow” a bit more. I shall pray that the best outcome for you all is reached. Xx

Grannybags Mon 07-Sept-26 14:31:09

Thanks for the update cossy I love the thought of a wriggling Henry!

I think it’s a positive sign that they think he’s well enough to leave GOSH but can sympathise with how stressful that might be

kittylester Mon 07-Sept-26 14:43:43

Thank you for the update, cossy. As always, sending positive thoughts and lots of love to you all.

MissAdventure Mon 07-Sept-26 14:50:13

I can understand the mummies, just dealing with the 'here and now' of it all.
Sending love to them, and 'Our Enery'.
I'm waiting patiently until he opens his eyes and is able to put a face to the voices he's been hearing.
Little sweet soul.

Cossy Mon 07-Sept-26 15:03:54

In terms of the hospital move, Henry was moved from Homerton because he needed an urgent and immediate bowel operation, which couldn’t be done at Homerton.

But he’s settled so well at GOSH, and made such good progress and spent the majority of his little life there. But GOSH don’t have the same amount of NICU cots as either Royal London or Homerton.

We all understand this, but it doesn’t make it any easier.

This will be his fourth hospital, and even transporting him brings its own risks and takes hours to do.

It’s understandable for both families and his beloved mummies to feel very anxious thanks 😢😢

Then there’s the question of mummies accommodation too. Sigh. It’s sooooo stressful, and honestly I’ve had some stressful times in my life, but this is one of the very worst.

AGAA4 Mon 07-Sept-26 15:19:38

The stress on all the family must be so hard. The medical teams will be focussing on Henry to give him.the best they can.
It's a difficult time for you all but Henry is still there fighting to be with his mummies. He has gone through so much poor little mite.
We all continue to send love and strength to Henry. He is in good hands. ❤️

A very stressful time for the whole family.
Thinking of you all.

Then there’s the question of mummies accommodation too. Sigh. It’s sooooo stressful, and honestly I’ve had some stressful times in my life, but this is one of the very worst.
If only I were still in East London, 20 mins from Homerton, I would have had any of you who needed to stay.
It must be so stressful for everyone, but the important thing is that Henry is progressing well and getting stronger.

LizzieDrip Mon 07-Sept-26 16:53:36

Thinking of you all Cossy 💐💙

on standby

Just heard a little one, more poorly than our Henry, is being transferred, some time today, including after midnight, from Homerton to GOSH, Henry will take his place at Homerton.

So on-guard, now for a phone call to drive up with the other gran and move all the things from the girls room to ???

No room allocated as yet.

The good news is Henry is well enough to move back to Homerton. 🩵

We await our instructions…..

SueDonim Tue 08-Sept-26 18:09:56

Good luck with Baby Henry, Cossy. It must be daunting but I hope the girls have had a day or two to get used to the idea. flowers

Grammaretto Tue 08-Sept-26 18:27:16

It sounds really positive that Henry is able to return to Homerton.

The stress must be intense. I wish you all well.

ferry23 Tue 08-Sept-26 18:43:46

This is such an emotional journey for you all, I'm sure all of us here wish there were something more tangible we could do for you all.

But the journey is hopefully taking a very positive route with Henry being moved, because you can be absolutely sure this wouldn't be happening if they had any doubt about his strength to deal with it.

As always, thoughts with you all.

AGAA4 Tue 08-Sept-26 19:47:51

Glad Henry is strong enough to be moved but sad for the other little one who is more poorly.
Still on team Henry. Onwards and upwards.

Grannybags Tue 08-Sept-26 21:12:17

Good luck with the move.

Wonderful that Henry is well enough to travel. I hope Mummies and Grandparents don’t get too stressed 🤗
