What a difference a day makes 😢😢

Yesterday my daughter and daughter-in-law were busy grumbling about how slow their first house purchase is taking and wishing it would speed up as they signed their contract 5 weeks ago.

Today my sweet DiL, who’s carry DD baby went into spontaneous labour and after waters broke and baby was upside down with umbilical cord separating, she had an emergency C section and then at 13:00 baby Henry was born at 24.9 weeks, weighing 1lb 6oz.

We are all hoping for a good outcome in the end, please pray to whatever God or spiritual being or keep your fingers crossed that baby Henry comes through this.

DD and DiL in shock and baby about to be transferred to a Neonatal Unit in a hospital nearly 40 miles away. This is their first baby and first try at IVF. He’s so tiny (I couldn’t see him but DD sent photos) 😢

That is such good news, Cossy. Well done, wee Henry!

I’m pretty sure others on this thread would agree with me that all updates are very welcome, there is no such thing as too many! ❤️

I’m late back to read your latest update Cossy, but so pleased to hear that the mums are happier now and Henry is stable.

Update

At last, I saw dear sweet Henry again yesterday.

We (other granny) and I drove the girls to Homerton, (after they’d collected their keys to new home 👍👍🥳🥳).

The (lovely kind and quite funny) nurse was changing his nappy when I went in for my visit.

Henry woke up and was very “cross”, he screwed up his tiny face and kicked his legs and waved his arms around.

The nurse told him she was sorry she’d made him cross, and spoke to him in a very calming and soothing voice. She’s Caribbean and had such a lovely way with him and a lovely big smile. She encouraged DD to open the incubator “doors” on the opposite side and just gently cradled his head, she did this, but it seemed to make him “crosser” than ever.

The extubation and move to CPAP or nostril based oxygen is going to take a fair bit longer than planned, due to him yanking out his tube last week, having another infection and him simply not being ready.

He’s gained some of the weight he lost and is around 2lbs now and just over 6 weeks old and that’s just over 30 weeks in gestational terms.

He’s still on morphine and I think this is the last day on steroids.

Despite our concerns, he’s clearly being well cared for and we are very optimistic he will make the much needed progress, given time.

Enjoy your weekends, thinking of you all with your own “challenges”, and thank you all so very much for your kind, positive, hopeful, thoughts, prayers and messages. All so very gratefully received.

You don't mess with little Henry! He's not happy with all this nappy changing.
So glad he is putting on weight and doing better.
