Yesterday my daughter and daughter-in-law were busy grumbling about how slow their first house purchase is taking and wishing it would speed up as they signed their contract 5 weeks ago.

Today my sweet DiL, who’s carry DD baby went into spontaneous labour and after waters broke and baby was upside down with umbilical cord separating, she had an emergency C section and then at 13:00 baby Henry was born at 24.9 weeks, weighing 1lb 6oz.

We are all hoping for a good outcome in the end, please pray to whatever God or spiritual being or keep your fingers crossed that baby Henry comes through this.

DD and DiL in shock and baby about to be transferred to a Neonatal Unit in a hospital nearly 40 miles away. This is their first baby and first try at IVF. He’s so tiny (I couldn’t see him but DD sent photos) 😒

Very quick update

I arrived home at 4:00am

Lots more changes, Henry is now in GOSH, being prepared and stabilised for a bowel operation.

Our darling girls are being strong and brave for each other.

I came home at 4:00am, now just dozing and awaiting updates.

All very scary and sad.

All in the lap of the gods and the amazing and wonderful GOSH teams.

Oh Cossy - how worrying for you. I hope you can tell we are with you in spirit if not in body.

May the coming hours bring you better news.

Cossy Wed 12-Aug-26 11:10:30

Again, I just want to acknowledge and thank you all for your prayers, support and just for being amazing!

Off to have a shower, and prepare snack and drinks for when our girls ask for us to go.

My darling goddaughter trained and worked at GOSH for many years, she’s in another nearby hospital and has offered to advocate if required, as our poor Giles now have information overload and are struggling to take it all in.

We are surrounded by live, for which I am so so grateful.

Excellent idea to have someone else, especially a healthcare professional, to be there as well. When stuff is coming at you from all sides, it’s very hard to grasp the information in the first place, let alone retain it.

Usedtobeblonde Wed 12-Aug-26 12:39:40

I just can’t imagine what skill, learning, dedication, patience it must take to do a major operation on a tiny premature days old baby .
The thought of it takes my breath away.
These are the people who should be paid the salaries footballers receive.
While praying for Henry I shall pray for all the medical personnel who are caring for him and all the other sick babies and children.

Aveline Wed 12-Aug-26 14:30:58

Exactly! What skill and also courage to carry out such tremendously complex work. Not just the surgeons but also the anesthetists too. Plus a very different sort of nursing such a tiny patient.
Footballers are nothing compared to these people.

Cossy Wed 12-Aug-26 22:05:01

Feel I need to update you again, I saw baby Henry today, in GOSH, recovering at 3:00pm from his bowel operation. He has a teeny tiny stoma bag, which is reversible, if and when, he’s stronger.

GOSH staff and facilities are amazing.

I feel so comforted knowing he really is getting first class care.

Once again, thanks to all for all your best wishes, prayers, kind thoughts.

I wish all of you the same good wishes, especially those of you going through difficult, sad, stressful times.

Night night all thanks
