Data breach x 3!!

I meant to add, all three were using "Beacon".

& this is why I don’t want ID on my phone, I don’t trust that it won’t be hacked down the line.

I had a message from Gloucester Cathedral saying they had also been affected

One of the emails I received say that Beacon is used by more than 1,500 charities across the UK. 🤦‍♀️

Beacon security state that that they hold no bank account numbers. No sort codes.
I’m wondering if the charities are cutting costs by not having their security systems cleaned. It’s a very expensive procedure by highly qualified people.
A bit like people cutting back / not bothering with insurance thinking the worst won’t happen, and then it does.

I sincerely hope so because I've donated to all three charities. I still feel insecure though because what if they can access my emails and there are banking details on there? 😮‍💨 It has made me so cross. Why would anyone hack into those databases I wonder ...

I had to comment because you are mistaken about where the data breach has been. This has been absolutely nothing to do with any of the charities involved. The data breach has been with Beacon; and not the organisations. Every single charity that uses beacon is affected. My daughter works for one and they’ve had a terrible week. I can tell you right now that it is absolutely no fault of any organisation. Beacon also is one of the most secure databases out there and the factories even they can get hacked.

I’m not saying that some charities don’t have a lax attitude towards data Protection, but please do not think that the error is with them. **It is not and I cannot repeat this enough times.

LucyBB is correct. The charities are not at fault. TBF I don’t think Beacon is at fault either, hackers are very good, unfortunately, at what they do.
I believe that bank details are only available while the transaction is being processed and that they are not saved anywhere.
I’ve had two emails from charities about the data breach and am confident they are being open about what has been stolen. Just remember to keep an eye out for scam emails.

That’s why I pay for everything through PayPal now no charities or businesses have my back account numbers
