My "get up and go" has got up and gone!

I usually find that I have a variety of things that I want to do, whether it is getting a job done in the flat, or going out to meet someone or doing something. So that usually shapes my plans as I jiggle the day about , to let me do the thing I most want to. Often that will also mean I have plans for the following few days too. There are plenty of jobs that I could/should be doing right now, ranging from beginning a list of things that I want to get rid of, to having a ruthless sort out of paperwork. At the moment not expecting any visitors either, which tends to be the spur to getting going.

Often I look up the Radio Times, and rejig things to fit in with something I want to listen to, while I am sorting. This afternoon I am only in the negative state of knowing all the things I dont want to do, but cannot even think what to have for dinner. The kitchen got sorted but that is all. It is quite an odd feeling for me, and no doubt there will be a time in the near future that I will wonder why I didnt do this or that.
I remember my mother, if I was in a similar mood, picking up and putting down things, would say if you cant find something to do, I will find you a job to do. Ah well I shall wait until the day cools down a little and have a bit of a walk, and look for my "get up and go" Reading the posts on GN most of you are having no problem, thinking of things to do.

I don't have any get up and go. I can't do anything in this hot weather. People say this too will pass. I wish it bloody well would. We all get these nothing days. Hopefully you will feel better soon. At least it is cooler next week. Take care of yourself. Take a little trip out on your car to somewhere nice with a good cafe. Isn't deciding what to eat so relentless! hugs

I have all kinds of things I need to sort out but just keep procrastinating e.g. paperwork, the junk under the stairs, the clothes in my wardrobe, the loft .......

I am not a hoarder but I need to seriously reduce the amount of stuff I have. It just seems so overwhelming.

I have watched Marie Kondo and a few other decluttering videos. I know what I need to do. It's just getting started.

My get up and go went a while ago! No point in trying to do much in this heat anyway!
Perhaps I’ll find the get up and go next week when it’s cooler!

Hot weather day after day is energy sapping. Pottering at a slow pace is fine, or maybe get out a book to read. I find if I sit down to relax for too long it makes me feel dull & lethargic. Jobs get done when I feel like doing them - no real rush unless visitors are coming. Do you keep a diary of things planned? I like to have a few things planned to look forward to. The jobs seem to slot in between.

My get up and go got frazzled by the relentless heat. I find that any job makes me sweat and feel drained as if recovering from a fever so I have been doing precious little.
This weather has to go soon surely, I mean pray God we aren’t still closing windows and drawing the curtains and putting hot water bottles in the freezer next month. Have wasted enough precious time living like a mole.

Yes I’m the same. I’m fine in the cooler early morning, but by 11 I simply cave in.

This is worse than winter (I never thought I’d say that) but at least in winter I can wrap up.

My get up and go will need a kick up the whatsit tomorrow morning as I’ve ordered a new printer and it’s arriving any time from 7am. 😫
I’m neither a lark nor an owl….
I’m a sloth!

madeleine45 I often have days like this and I can't blame the hot weather either.
I lose any urge to get things done and resort to puzzles or reading or the internet and hours go by before I do odd bits and pieces around the house so I can say I have 'achieved' something that day.

The very hot weather gives me a wonderful excuse to do very little at all without feeling guilty.

I feel I have fallen short again today. I have had a list of things to do for a while now - lots of things which will pile up if I delay any longer but the urge to make progress has left me.
I am not too worried about it though. I know every now and then I can have a burst of energy and go through things like a dose of salts, so I'm waiting for a rainy day to get cracking - or the inspiration to achieve, whichever comes first! confused
The big drawback of not getting things done is regret at bedtime that I really could have done more, used my day more profitably.

I hope you have a better day tomorrow.

Ah just to say that today, after a weird rubbish night , and waking up convinced that it was sunday , not saturday, I had to get the yellow peril out and get down to the market. Sadly no rain, but grey overhead and blessedly cooler. Came home , with the fruit and vegetables from the market, about to sort the kitchen out etc ., and my brain got into gear and said dont waste this cooler weather.

So I just put some stuff in the fridge, made a quick sandwich and put lots of cold drinks, and my cold wet flannel in its plastic bag and disappeared out and went to Saltburn. It was a lovely day, as I was able to open the two nearside windows , getting a cool breeze moving through, and didnt even need sunglasses on. It felt like being let out of prison, it has been so long since I went any distance. Gave the car a decent run out, had a great run across, no traffic jams, and enjoyed seeing all the countryside, which of course looked more like the end of September, with the majority of crops gathered in. So now returned , refreshed and will spend this evening and tomorrow catching up. How lovely to have the windows open and of course it isnt cold but definitely cooler. So at least I know that the "get up and go" is in there somewhere, even it the heat returns tomorrow. Hope some of you have had a cooler day too.

I think yesterday was a write off heat wise, somehow it felt unbearable...a build up of heat over a week. If I don't do what needs doing in the morning, I know I'm not going to get anything done the rest of the day. I did go and visit my friend in her care home this afternoon, beautiful gardens, tea and cake too. Really glad it's cooling from tomorrow and can't wait to being inside with natural light with the blinds open. Having severely sprained my ankle a few weeks ago I'm usually putting a bag of frozen peas on foot or sitting with it raised. I haven't got very far with the ankle exercise info as hurts like crazy. My mojo has definitely got up and gone.

JenniRen Sat 15-Aug-26 21:15:56

So has mine. I have a list of things I need to do but no get up and go to do them.

However, I've read a few books lately 😀

Oh dear, Plevey08, sometimes a severe sprain takes longer than a break to mend. I speak from experience. You'll get there eventually.

Go with the flow, everyone 😴

Plevey08 Sat 15-Aug-26 21:23:40

Yes I have heard it does JenniRen. Yuk! Enjoy the cooler weather everyone 😊
