EkwaNimitee Fri 14-Aug-26 07:48:41

Good morning Mick and everyone from warm Carlisle. Hope you're not feeling too bad Mick.

It was stuffy upstairs last night but I slept OK. Windows are open everywhere at the moment before the sun gets above the roof tops.

Yesterday was not the quiet day I planned. A crown fell out so I rang the dentist and got a short notice appointment so it was a trip into town.
The tooth was soon replaced and I took the opportunity to offload a pile of books to the Oxfam bookshop, followed by a stock up trip to Boots and the M&S food hall. The latter have had some very luscious strawberries recently, I'm pigging out while they last.
Home to not much. I went through files and cleared some paperwork out, got rid of some unwanted tech and had a slight rearrangement of storage.

Today I'm definitely staying home and doing little, only watering in the garden looms. I'm reading a bargain book I got in a TGJones closing down sale...40p for a brand new one! By Baldacci, not really my thing but we'll see.

Wishing you all a good day!

Gagagran Fri 14-Aug-26 07:46:44

Good Morning everyone from the sunny central south coast. I really hope it is not as unbearably hot today as it was yesterday. The garden thermometer was showing 55c in direct sunlight.

Our Tesco delivery is due between 9 and 10 am so hopefully I can get it sorted and put away before the heat builds again.

Thinking of all coping with struggles and worries of any kind and hope for some relief today.

Grandmabatty Fri 14-Aug-26 07:45:24

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 18° and damp out. The temperature hasn't to rise too much, thank goodness. GrandMattie I like the sound of your sea quilt. Susan56 I hope the car search is successful.
Yesterday dd messaged me to say she had to carry dgs2 to the school. He was crying and screaming. The teacher came and got him and whipped him into school. Of course dd felt bad. I did an hour in the school library which had been left in a state. However I got it sorted. Then I went to see dd to console her. She was fine but felt like a heel handing him over. However when she picked him up from school, he said he had a great day and is looking forward to going back. He does struggle with transitions and then settles. I pottered about the house and read.
Last night, despite being up a couple of times, I had a decent sleep. Today I have no plans which suits me fine. I will do the small ironing I couldn't be bothered doing yesterday. Have a good day all.

Gingster Fri 14-Aug-26 07:42:51

Good morning after a very humid night.

Oh Marzipan I do connect with you . The slight whiff of autumn excites me too. Your little patio and herbs and spices.
Enjoying Your ‘narrowed down’ life and freedom from the sun and heat.
I could have written it all. Small pleasures are the best.

We are selling our car this weekend. Silly to keep it and children didn’t want it. Another ‘nail in the coffin’ 😢? . No, it feels quite liberating actually. I wasn’t much of a driver and only drove locally, so busses, trains and cabs for me, sit and relax instead of fighting through traffic which is dire around here.

This afternoon I’m off to the private hospital not far from here. I’ve given up on the NHS , trying to get follow up appointments for my glaucoma eyes. 10 months since the last check up really isn’t good enough. Supposed to be 4 monthly and I can never get through to the hospital.

Bellasnanna ‘ I dread the end of summer’.
Oh my goodness, I can’t wait. 🥵.
Utbb sorry to hear you have family worries. You deserve some peace of mind 🙏. I hope things ease soon.
Have a lovely day with your friend latedecember

Congrats to all who have wonderful exam results. I do wish they wouldn’t televise the success stories so much. Think of all the students who didn't do well. It must be so upsetting for them and the families.

Take care all 🥀

Liberty Fri 14-Aug-26 07:41:55

Good morning from another sunny start to the day in Suffolk where the forecast of light rain for a couple of days after the weekend seems to have disappeared from the BBC weather App!

DGD2 got the best possible grades inner 4 subjects and starts her 5 year course in veterinary medicine at her chosen university in just 4 weeks time. She is thrilled and we all are delighted. 2 DGC get GCSE results next Thursday.

Apart from DH going for a haircut this morning the day is free although our craftsman carpenter is coming to finish off replacing some pieces of rotten wood revealed by the builder who is painting the outside of the house. Both are cousins and grandsons of the builder we first used when we moved here and nephews of him.

They certainly believe in keeping the business in the family but with that goes the need to protect their excellent reputation locally. We feel very lucky to be able to rely on them totally and know if we have a problem they will sort it out.

Hope today is a good one for all especially those struggling in any way.

dragonfly46 Fri 14-Aug-26 07:39:35

Good morning from sunny Leicestershire.

Yesterday I really felt the heat for the first time.
Today I am driving a friend to Nottingham to the eye clinic. Her cataract has gone cloudy.

Hopefully the plumber sorted our water pressure problem yesterday so I can have a powerful shower this morning.

DS arrived safely in New York yesterday. He is having a weekend away from all his troubles.

UTBB flowers.

Good to see you back Susan.
Has anyone seen Corner?

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

Usedtobeblonde Fri 14-Aug-26 07:38:50

R&L it is good to hear that you are coping with the extreme heat and your recuperation. Also that your H is helping you ,you really deserve it.
I hope things continue to go well for you.

RosesandLilac Fri 14-Aug-26 07:31:18

Good morning! There’s a whiff of smoke in the air, I don’t know where it’s from…..
A much cooler start here in south Glos today, thank god, the temperature yesterday (37°) was nearly unbearable. I had the fans running flat out trying to keep the living room bearable.
My sister phoned to say that both her DCs are marrying next year, 3 months apart and the dd isn’t happy that her brother is marrying first. I haven’t seen either of them for years and (thankfully to be honest) no invite is coming our way.
Apparently my niece is being very unpleasant for some reason 🤷🏼‍♀️
I made all the right noises I think!
SIL is coming this morning, DH is taking tiddler to the vet for her regular check and annual vaccination, I’m doing not a lot 😄
Thank goodness it’s going to be a tad cooler today 🙏
I hope you’re all managing, there’s little choice really is there?
Best wishes from me x
🌹

Good morning everyone from another bright and sunny 🌞Northampton day, slightly cooler forecast at 31°C!

Not much got done yesterday, though I did manage to vacuum the bedrooms and the staircase - that was enough. Oh and I made a nice spicy chicken stir-fry with noodles.

Dance classes as usual this morning, but we shall be using a different room at the venue as it is out of the sun and cooler. Pondering what to wear - leggings will be too warm.

Excellent A levels results for DGD1 yesterday, she got the grades needed for her first choice university to read Bio-chemistry. Now waiting on DGD2's GCSE results next Thursday.

Little cat is being difficult having her medication applied - I have to catch her unawares as she does not like it!

Wishing all a pleasant day and take it easy in this heat.

ginny Fri 14-Aug-26 07:17:30

Good morning all.
My workshop was cancelled yesterday as one of the leaders had to go to A & E. Like wise choir in the evening. Same person is our choir leader.
So, I joined DH and DGS2 on a trip to the canal museum.
Today I have a nail appointment and may go out to look for materials for decorating a cake for our WI party.
DD3. and family have left for their French holiday so my two weeks of cat feeding starts.
A good day wished for you all with a smile along the way.

Jaxjacky Fri 14-Aug-26 07:09:40

Morning from an already warm S Hants, another hot day ahead.
Yesterday there was some token housework, fiddling with Tesco delivery list and a later dinner. Our chiller unit has proved its worth this summer, a good buy two years ago.
Granddaughter had decent A level results, she’ll be studying forensics at university.
Grocery delivery later.
Hope those antibiotics work quickly Mick.
Enjoy your meet up latedecember

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it is a cooler start than yesterday. I couldn’t bear to be outside for long yesterday but got a serious attack of cabin fever early afternoon and walked down to the pharmacy. Big mistake. Just a mile round trip and I was floored and dripping when I got home. A chat with GS cheered me up after tea.

Today I will go to the gym early and then see what comes along to fill the rest of the day.

Have the best day you can folks.

Redcar Fri 14-Aug-26 07:02:15

Good morning everyone from mid Essex where it’s lovely and cool at the moment. I have lots of windows open as well as the back door. If only it would stay like this for a few hours but it’s set to be 25 by 9 o’clock and 33 again later.
My bedroom was quite warm but it was traffic noise that kept me awake for a while.
DD2 and the DGDs came round in the afternoon and we had fish and chips from a local chippy.

utbb I’m sorry you had another family crisis and hope things calm down again soon.

latedecember enjoy your meet up with your friend.

Congratulations to karma’s and nannyjans DGC on their exam results, wishing them luck in their future careers.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Marzipan22 Fri 14-Aug-26 06:58:45

Good morning from my patio in Cornwall where the sky is completely cloud-covered. No breeze yet. My sun umbrellas work beautifully, creating lovely shadows and also casting an orange tint into my flat so that my room looks aglow. They're UV proof and waterproof so I can see me sitting under them all winter too.

Lots of sewing yesterday plus lots of unpicking but eventually I'll end up with wearable garments, I hope.

I'm delighted with my new curry plant which is just outside my back door where I can easily sniff it. I'm going to get another one to put next to my swing seat, to go with the various mints, oregano and marjoram which I squeeze and sniff regularly. Such excitement in my narrowed-down life. grin But oh joy I smelt autumn in the air these last two early mornings. Only a whiff, but the promise of freedom for me just around the corner!

monk08 Fri 14-Aug-26 06:50:39

Nice to see you posting Susan56.

monk08 Fri 14-Aug-26 06:46:57

Good morning all from another sunny day in the Black country, a bit cooler than yesterday by a few degrees.
Today is my nephews wedding in Stratford upon Avon it will be great to be with all of my brothers, I can't remember the last time we were all together, hoping my dress still fits haven't tried it on since I bought it last September.
FGT! It was good to see Matt cartoon and have a little laugh.
Have a good day everyone whatever your plans 😎.

Susan56 Fri 14-Aug-26 06:45:20

Good morning from Shropshire. We have thunder forecast for later, we’ll see!

We are going to look at cars later just in case ours is written off.We also need to go shopping as DD2 and family are calling to see us tomorrow on the way home from holiday so we will make sure we have their favourite food in.

Have a good day everyone 🦩🌻

Bellasnana Fri 14-Aug-26 06:43:45

Good morning from Malta where it’s going to be 40°C again. I can’t remember when we last had rain, it usually arrives in September. I dread the end of summer.

Apart from a good workout on my crosstrainer and doing some washing, I had a fairly lazy day yesterday and today will be more of the same although I do have some jobs to do which will keep me occupied.

Lovely to see Susan56 posting again yesterday🤗 Love the cartoon FGT 😂😂. I’ve just paid mine!

Enjoy your meet up with your friend, latedecember1963, you’ve definitely earned a break.😊

Congrats on the ‘A’ level results. Lots of proud grans.👏🏻

The boys are having the time of their lives in Gozo. They are staying with friends and spending all day in the pool.

DGD in Tennessee has just finished her first week back in 11th Grade. Their holiday was from end of May. We have until the end of September here.

Wishing you all a good day.☀️

Melanie61 Fri 14-Aug-26 06:33:37

Good morning from Sheffield
We took the two youngest GC to the cinema to see the new minions movie yesterday. It was great although not much cooler in there.
On the way back we called off at the garage to see about our air con in the car. Surprisingly they offered to sort it out there and then . It took about an hour , the only problem were two restless grandchildren, we survived and now have a lovely cool car.
A quiet family tea as our DD was at work and the other half of the family have gone away so we have the gorgeous cockapoo for three weeks, a pleasure

Take care everyone flowers

Usedtobeblonde Fri 14-Aug-26 06:33:24

Good morning from a slightly cooler Stockport.
Yesterday was so hot I did very, very little.
I had an upsetting day due to a family crisis, I cancelled the cleaners as I couldn’t cope with both, they are coming next week instead.
I was drained mentally and physically by evening.
These things are “sent to try us” I wish they wouldn’t, I have been tried enough over the years.
Enjoy what you can of your day.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 14-Aug-26 06:32:09

Good morning from S E Essex, it is already 20° with a high of 33° as much as I love this weather, I am fully aware that we are desperate for rain. When we drove north through our county on Wednesday, I was astounded by the brown fields and verges where they are usually multiple shades of green.

For some unknown reason I was ironing bedding and linen clothing yesterday morning, before the temperature rose above 30°. After lunch I was in the pool with The Imp, even managed to get him to play sleeping lions for at least five minutes 😹😹😹

Off to the gym first thing, followed by a catch up and coffee (tea for me, as I do not like the coffee in our gym) and catch up with friends.

Tonight DH and I are going to our favourite Thai Restaurant for dinner.

Thinking of our friends with illness and troubles 🌺

Puss Fri 14-Aug-26 06:15:18

Good morning everyone from Belfast where it is looking like rain. We had some heavy rain during the night.
Yesterday was very hot DD and I went out to our nearest town she was looking new glasses needless to say we came away without any, we do this regularly I stayed out of it and only gave my opinion when asked.!!!!!
There was a sale on in one of the shops I got 2 pairs of shorts for £5 I had to ask the assistant if it was correct.
We ended up at the farm shop near us no bargains there!!!!
Housework today the usual. DH is off to a funeral in church.
Take it easy everyone. Congratulations to all for the exams.

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 14-Aug-26 06:05:41

Morning all from an already warm West Oxfordshire.

I did very little yesterday apart from read and a bit of ironing.

We are having our fence fixed this morning. It got very wobbly during some recent storms.

Have a good day everyone.

grandMattie Fri 14-Aug-26 05:56:51

Good morning from a dawning Bristol:a few wispy pink clouds floating in the east.
I had a successful little shop yesterday. It was mainly to find out which of the 6 pairs glasses in my drawer was the most recent prescription. The girl in Specsavers didn’t laugh at me, only I did that! I now only have my spare specs in the drawer.
I have wanted to do a quilt with fish patchwork for ages and have found a pattern. I have started cutting out the bits for each block, but need to go to town for the “sea coloured” background fabric. I’m hoping for a pale blue-green, but will have to use whatever they have.
fgt, you are right about “one day at a time”, I could add *KBO”, (keep bug… on)! Bear that in mind you lot😆
Have a good day and stay cool/safe. This is the last hot day for about a week…
Carpe diem ❤️🦩🦩🦩🦩

latedecember1963 Fri 14-Aug-26 05:54:47

Good morning everyone from Anglesey.
Poor DH was woken with a cramp about 40 minutes ago. I got him a drink and he's now deep in slumber again but I'm wide awake.

Congratulations to NannyJan's and Karma's young relatives on their A Level results. Exciting times ahead.

Yesterday was a relaxed day pottering about the caravan. It was slightly cooler, with a breeze which was more comfortable for DH. I'm loving this gorgeous weather, but DH finds it energy sapping.

Today I've got a treat. DH has agreed to look after the little chap while I go to meet up with my Anglesey friend.
She's wonderful with him, but I am conscious that we can't natter and mooch about in the same way as we'd become accustomed in recent years.

Wishing you all the best day possible and continued recovery to all those not feeling great. 🌻
