Good morning from an overcast and cooler Suffolk which is so welcome. I think yesterday was the hottest day here so far.

Apart from a Waitrose delivery this afternoon and the usual dog walks we have no plans at all for the weekend. DS phoned l yesterday and suggested they ‘popped’ up today but,given the extended travel time on the A12 because of speed restrictions etc re Sizewell I persuaded him not to.

It is the whole family celebration of my birthday over the bank holiday weekend so shall see them all then. We are off to Potters at Hopton which we are all looking forward to. DGS3 is hoping that he is old enough at 12 to go on the go-carts.

About to have my second cuppa,read the posts and then water the pots. Hope today is a good one for all.

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Bright after a wet night.

My Aussie helper is like a Mr Motivator as she not only zips through all the things on my to-do list she makes me do what I have to to.

She managed to send an ancient bicycle pump to the National museum in Wales yesterday and I have arranged to deliver a box of historic journals to the library at the Botanic gardens.

She then headed off into Edinburgh while I did my volunteer shift and cooked an evening meal for me and my friend.

Monk what a lovely wedding it must have been. 🥰

Sorry about your DS experience Dragonfly. It's common enough. Something similar happened to DH years ago which left him feeling very foolish.

It is overcast but still warm here in S E Essex, it’s expected to reach 26°.

A local shop first thing, The Imp and 11yr old are coming for a sleepover, so I must make sure my fridge is full.

Good morning from my Cornish patio where there's dense cloud and a proper wind blowing and oh joy I can breathe deeply so I'll be escaping to the coast today, probably St Ives.

An early foray yesterday to B&Q where I bought my second curry plant plus a French lavender, so now I'm nicely surrounded with aroma on my swing seat. An interesting diversion by bus to a library where I scoured the fiction section for a change, then brunch at Wetherspoons with loads of holidaymakers but also a mixture of people I know.

My resident robin drinks from the little saucer of water I put out, shared by two wasps that come back regularly during the day.

Good morning from Torbay where there is a welcome breeze and it is less sunny today.

Just as I arrived at the theatre last night, we had about five minutes of very light rain. As we were changing into costumes, the Government alarm went off. Unfortunately, a few alarms came through during the performance. One of the cast received a round of applause for ad-libbing a line in which she pretended it was from the mobile she was using on stage. Last night’s audience was the best we have had all week in that they were very responsive and appreciative.

Good morning from a cloudy W Kent. I have to wait in this morning for a Royal Mail tracked parcel so small amount of shopping will have to wait. Things are very quiet here since DD1 went home but maybe just as well as the heat yesterday really knocked us out.

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 13° and bright. No weather warning for us Scots last night! Bellasnana I didnt know that about the Malta convoys. GrandMattie I love those colours!
Yesterday was a quiet day. Dgs2 still wasn't happy going into school but came running out happily at the end of the day. His teacher sent dd photos of him happily engaged in activities. He just needs to get over that first hurdle.
I pottered about in the house and nade a vegetable lasagne which was very tasty.
Today I will make bread. I ran out yesterday and have a tesco delivery due tomorrow, so need something to bridge the gap. I will wash the bedding too. Hopefully I can hang it out. I must do the ironing which is looking at me accusingly. That's all I have planned. Have a good day all.

Yesterday was disappointing and annoying . I arrived at the hospital to be told my appointment was last Friday! I had told the dopey girl on the phone I couldn’t make that day!
It’s now next Friday. Taxi there and back! I should really be given a refund as it certainly wasn’t my fault.

Our lovely cabbie came back for me and said we’ll go back along the seafront to cheer you up. It looked beautiful with the tide well in and swimmers, paddle boarders, canoeists all doing there thing.

Today ds1 will come with me to sell our car to the local garage. A sad goodbye. Dh isn’t happy at all and says he will be driving soon. 😢.

Dd messaged me to say her brand new washing machine was leaking all over the kitchen floor. She’d been mopping up for ages. I hope she’s found someone to come out today, to sort it.
There’s not much I can do to help her.

As it will hopefully be a bit cooler today, housework is on the agenda. Just can’t face it in the heat.

How awful for your son dragonfly. I’m glad he got away with ‘just’ handing over his money. 🙏.

That alarm certainly gave me a fright last evening. Was it really necessary. Alarming to be sure.

Good morning from the east coast. I’m looking forward to a cooler week.

Yesterday mum and I visited uncles assisted living and were chatting to people we know there. We brought a few things out of this flat that mum can use and I collected a box of recycling and rubbish. We’ll clear it bit by bit there’s no rush.
When the government alert came through last night I was listening to my audiobook. It’s a thriller about a group of friends on a weekend in the Caribbean and there’s a hurricane so I thought it was my book. When I realised all I could think was I hope my little Grandson didn’t bang his head because he can’t tolerate sounds like that. I feel so sad for people losing their homes with the fires. So worrying.

Today we have an empty day but I definitely want to do some walking. I’m losing a pound a week on my calorie counting. Slow and steady is what they say and that’s certainly the case with me.

Good morning, it’s thankfully cooler at the moment, although it was still 22° at midnight when I couldn’t sleep.
Still no forecast for rain here in south Glos and the Met Office longer range forecast predicts further very hot spells well into September 😵‍💫
My SIL visited yesterday bearing gifts of food, probably enough to feed us for a fortnight! How very kind of her, it’s much appreciated. I have put some in the freezer and as she’s a great cook, I know it’ll be delicious!
I find myself just praying for cold weather now, breathing is difficult still ( although gradually improving) and it’s scary when you feel like you’re suffocating a bit.
Today I’m sorting out my sashiko threads, some need plaiting in the traditional way, labelling and storing so I know exactly what I have (too much !)
I’m sure I’ll find more bits to keep me busy as well as enjoying doing the stitching.

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. There’s some cloud about but not much sign of rain. Yesterday was hot and quite uncomfortable, I went to the nearby M&S food hall and would have been happy to sit in there all day!
DD2 walked the dog at 7.30 while it was cool.

As usual I did very little all day, but watched a lot of athletics on tv,
I slept well though but when I came down this morning, I found several “presents” left by the dog who is quite subdued this morning. DD2 will walk her at about 8. The family will be home tomorrow evening and I’ll be glad to relinquish responsibility.
It’s raining! Needless to say I didn’t bring the garden cushions inside last night.

melanie have a lovely weekend. I’d love to see the ABBA show, but would be very wary of the crowds of people in case I fell over.

monk I’m glad the wedding went well yesterday, lovely to have the ceremony outside.

It feels cooler today.

My DS got scammed in New York last night. He was alone walking on Broadway when a large man bumped into him and dropped his plastic bag which he said contained expensive alcohol. My DS offered him $20 but that wasn’t enough and he ended up giving him $100.
He said he didn’t want to argue as the guy was tough.
Apparently this is a known scam where guys walk around with broken bottles in plastic bags.

My DS is in charge of Cyber Security so it was ironic he would be scammed. It can happen to anyone.
Fortunately his friend has now joined him.

We are popping out to the shops today.

Yesterday morning I went to the gym and came home to wait for a telephone consult with the physio about my arthritic hands. It seems I am doing all the right things and he has put me on a rolling referral. The rest of the day was spent clearing up the lower garden and then emptying a cupboard I have tended to shove a lot of stuff into and then forget about it. It was a bitter sweet experience as I found all the condolence cards I was sent after DH died, and also the anniversary, Christmas and birthday cards we had sent to each other, including the last ones. I’ve put them all carefully away again. Goodness knows what for. DS rang for a chat on his way home from work. He was on the bus. We spent quite a lot of time talking about the merits of various malt whiskies. Goodness knows what the other passengers must thought - probably that this man and his mother were a pair of alcoholics!

Today I have some food shopping to do and if it stays cool, I’ll go for a walk round the top of the valley, though the fields and hedgerows are a uniform brown and there’s no relief from it. What has happened to our beautiful English landscape and when will we ever see it again?

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where I’ve woken just now to a sky full of white cloud cover. Alexa tells me it’s going to be (only) 21°C today. The end of the heatwave it seems my desk fan can go back in its box in the wardrobe.

The family are now in Málaga in my little place. I received a message late last night and I’m sure I’ll get FaceTimed this morning! 💕

I think I might take the bus to the Trafford Centre later. I want to buy a new goose down and feather pillow and like to give them a squish when choosing, which is why I won’t be ordering one from Sainsbury’s Argos downstairs - even though that’d be more handy!

While there, I’ll nip into M&S Food Hall, although fish & chips might be on the menu for my tea - it’s ages since I enjoyed that particular treat at £7;50 but so delicious!

Lovely day at the wedding service was outside fans were supplied for each guest and there was a little bit of cloud, but such a relief to go indoors in the air con.
Today another early start we have engineer coming between 8-1 to sort the phones out, got caught out last time and they were outside before 8.
Will come back later to catch up with everybody's happenings.

Good morning from warm and cloudy s somerset

Lots of strenuous garden work yesterday, many hours done and energy used all day. New raised beds made, one filled and ready to plant, first with small carrots then overwintering dwarf broad beans. One old bed re-vamped and now filled with everbearer strawberries and one hotbin emptied and is re-filled with plant material and some bark

Plans for today involve more garden work, removing old planters, trays and pots to the tip, pruning apple trees and lifting old echinacea plants

There will be plenty of time for restful indoor stuff soon, when the seasons change.

A friend went in April with her sister and daughter and said it was fantastic.
Her daughter immediately started planning a trip with some of her university friends, she enjoyed it so much.

Good morning from Malta where the high today is 39°C.

It’s a public holiday today for the feast of Santa Maria (the Assumption of Our Lady into Heaven). It also marks 84 years since the tanker Ohio limped into the Grand Harbour carrying supplies to save the Maltese from starvation (and capitulation to the enemy) A convoy of 14 ships had been sent by Britain under armed guard but had been relentlessly attacked while approaching the island, nine ships were sunk with five making it to Malta, and it was regarded as a miracle. Lest we forget.

No plans today really. Just pottering about. I’m happiest at home and always find plenty to do to keep me busy. First my half hour on the crosstrainer hoping to tone up my bingo wings!😂😂

Good morning everyone from an overcast Anglesey.

Thank you for the messages wishing me a good day out yesterday. We went to a garden centre and had a leisurely wander round followed by lunch where we sat and nattered like we used to pre the little chap's arrival.

I've known my friend for over 40 years and I'm conscious that I mustn't neglect her. It's all a balancing act, isn't it?

DH and the little chap got a bus to Moelfre, where they played with the pebbles on the beach and had fish and chips.

Hope your urine infection responds quickly to the antibiotics, Mick. Perhaps you could get some cranberry juice when you go shopping as it's meant to help.

Good morning from Sheffield

Today I am going on a coach trip to London to see ABBA Voyage. I saw it three years ago with my daughter. I had arranged to go with my sister in law but she had surgery a couple of weeks ago and felt not well enough to go. My good friend has stepped in instead.
If anyone has been you know what a fantastic experience it is. I’m so looking forward to the weekend.
I’m more or less packed.DH is dropping us off at the coach station at 8.30. We have some spare time in London tomorrow morning, not sure what we will do. I don’t know where we will be dropped off so will play that by ear.
I have my sparkly top and have crocheted two mesh beanie hats with sequins, all prepared !
