Good morning Michael and all GN's from a very dark and still North Yorkshire. No sounds of any birds yet. I dont think I shall be going out anywhere today, as I dont want to be stuck in crowds, and I am still struggling with the cellulitis, and my goal is to be fit for Muker show.
At least my halo should be shining from all my efforts yesterday. I spent the whole day, very slowly wading my way through all the mess, and slowly restoring the flat to something like normal. Between my leg and my back, it was being done at tortoise speed, and my thoughts that I would have it all sorted by the end of the day, soon disappeared.
However I did make a good inroad into the jobs, did some washing , which dried well and then added to the enormous pile of ironing waiting for my attention. I did get that satisfaction though, that I was clean and everything else was too. The towels and clothes all smelling sweet from drying outside. I am sat in my dressing gown now, which feels beautifully soft and it is quite pleasant to be wearing it on a cooler day. I plodded along all day, divided up by patches of sitting with my leg up and reading the local paper and the Yorkshire Post.
I have noted all the happenings coming up this week, so that I can quickly check them over, and the recycling bag was filling up and there was a pile of papers put to go into the files, which is a job for today, when I intend to be strong, checking what is up to date and doing a fair bit of shredding, and getting papers in date order etc etc. Despite all my efforts, the end result didnt look a great deal tidier, but I know I have done a fair bit whilst trying to get my leg to improve and have less things to worry about. Fortunately , it has been a little calmer day, despite feeling irritated at the pace, and with a bit of luck , by the end of the day I shall see a much more organised and well ordered place.
In the afternoon the sun came out, and I was fed up of slogging away, so sent a text to my friend to ask if she would like to come down and we could sit outside, with a coffee or something stronger and go through our plans for the trip to Muker, but within 5 minutes of my sending that, the sky really darkened and I had to rush to put the cover on the yp and collect in the washing and bring the folding chair inside
I sent a second text, sort of cancelling the first one, and was pleased with my efforts as the heavens opened and there was an almighty downpour. Didnt last too long but really heavy, for which I and my garden are grateful for, but I havent been outside yet to see how things have fared.
My leg has not got any worse, but I cannot see any real improvement either. I am sticking to the rules and taking my tablets etc etc, ( Muker is a powerful incentive to behave) but if there is not some improvement by tomorrow morning, I might have to go to the drs yet again!
I watched Antique Road show and the new serial set in Svalbard, Went there with Fred Olsen cruise. Right now very mixed feelings to FO. Their cruises suit me, very well run, smaller ships , interesting destinations with knowledgeable lecturers etc etc. However now we have a fight on our hands with Fred Olsen wanting to put several huge masts etc miles larger than anything else on our beloved swaledale. Of course we are all fighting this in every way we can. To disfigure and ruin the wonderful swaledale, where it will totally dominate the landscape and change it forever is being fought with every possible strength from all of us. I am totally in favour of any thing that can help , but not where it is going to make such a devastating difference. At Bainbridge in wnsleydale they have been able to provide electricity by using water power, A great idea which does not in the meantime wreck the view and the land.They are showing these masts as 3 times higher than the usual power masts. So , if they are allowed to put these things up where they will have to ruin a peat moor, add roads for access and the accompanying various assorted buildings etc, which will also mean that the many tourists who come here to enjoy walking in the peaceful dales will desert us in droves , and the moors will never be the same. To see another side of a company, which has made great efforts to minimise their carbon footprint , stuck to it and really done everything they can to provide the cruises you want without taking away too, is infuriating, and I shall be sad about it but if they succeed I shall no longer go with them, and will spend a great deal of time telling others what is happening and encouraging them to boycott them too.! Oh well we shall see.
the day has lightened up now , no sight or sound of any birds or squirrels so far. Had another rubbish night and my back is really painful, so it is time to get the kettle on and have some breakfast. Then carry on with the good work. I have got some good steak mince from the freezer , and am going to make it up into something good, curry, bolognaise or ordinary mince, dont know yet, but it will be a decent homecooked meal and also give me a couple of frozen items for bad back days. So plenty to keep me busy still.
Mick you will get quite a few jobs done if there is no cycling on anywhere. Then you will be ready for the next good racing. You sound as though you have had a busy few days grandMattie . Hope your afternoon goes well. I keep having to remind myself that it is not monday not sunday.
