Good morning from Sheffield
GM do you put a wax disc on top of your preserves or just screw the lid on tight?
I have just made a bucketful of tomato chutney and I worry how long it will keep for.
We are supposed to go to Sherwood Forest today with our daughter and family but it’s pouring down at the moment. We will see how it is in a couple of hours.
I could do with a quiet day to be honest. I feel a bit weary.

I never put the waxed paper on hot jam if I have an intact metal lid, which I screw on tight immediately after filling the jars.
If you only have the cellophane paper and elastic to seal the preserve, that’s when the waxed paper is used.
Most preserves will keep for several years, only losing a bit of freshness. Things like mincemeat will keep for longer with no ill effect.

Good morning a it’s bright and a bit breezy.
Yesterday was a good day for gardening and I got a lot of clearing done. Once you start it’s hard to know where to stop.

I had two messages from my old pals. One to say she’s booked us in for the ABBA voyage in November and the other pal to say she’s broken her hip falling off her bike. They spend the summer camping in the south of France. She’s 76 and her Dh is 86. . Both extremely fit, swim and cycle every day.

I pad keeps freezing so I’ll call it a day. 🌺

Good Morning everyone from the central south coast which is just drying up after overnight rain. It is lovely to see things perking up after the long drought we have had this summer.

It's my birthday today and we are going over the road to our lovely local cafe/restaurant for lunch. I was born 2 weeks early and seem to have been early for everything ever since. Had I been born on my due date, my life would have been on a different path as I was always the youngest in the schools I attended. 31 August has long been the cut off date for school years.

Kind thoughts of all with struggles or worries of any sort and hope the day brings some relief and ease.

Good morning from a grey, breezy Durham. We had some rain yesterday, including a torrential downpour.
A normal Monday for me, meeting a friend for coffee late morning then hopefully, I can pull out some ‘sad’ plants - I don’t think they’ll recover.
DD2 and family due home from Majorca this afternoon, but I’ll hang onto Little Dog a bit longer, until they get settled.

Yesterday was very quiet and I was careful with my food choices, so the gallbladder pain has subsidised a bit. I didnt do much then in the afternoon a friend phoned for a very long chat.
Today I had a long lie. Dd gets the Bank Holiday, so has the boys. It isnt a Bank Holiday locally though, so I will head to the school library for a tidy up. Then back home to clean up the kitchen. Thereafter it will be quiet. Gammon and cauliflower cheese again for dinner with some sweetheart cabbage too. Have a good day all.

Good morning from Morecambe bay where it is cloudy and mild. More showers are forecast on and off over the day. Hopefully we won’t get one when we are out with the dogs. Yesterday evening we got caught in a thunderstorm and torrential rain. It came so suddenly and seemingly out of nowhere. Today will be another quiet day as DH is still hobbling through he’s insisting on keeping walking as he fears seizing up altogether. I need to arrange to do some gardening for folk. I’ll have to do DH’s grass cutting jobs too which I was hoping I wouldn’t have to.
I’m with you all the way on those wind turbines Madeleine having seen what they have done to the beautiful previously unspoilt Shetland landscape.

Good morning, it’s a rather grey start to the day here in South Lanarkshire.

It isn’t a public holiday here and we have a couple of mundane tasks to do. We have been trying to dispose of a couple of children’s car seats for some time, our local tip doesn’t take them but we now have a slot at one a bit further away so fingers crossed we don’t come home with them again. Next stop is a visit to a different town to hand in all the redundant medical paraphernalia left over from DH’s knee surgeries. We have crutches, raised toilet seats and a bath seat, hopefully they can be reused.

There’s a small museum nearby that DH would like to visit if it’s open so that’s today taken care of. Not sure I can stand the excitement.

madeleine: Further to your concern over Fred Olsen's proposal for Swaledale, I understand it is for wind turbines to be erected there. Whilst understanding your concern for the beautiful area, as a country we are committed to finding other sources of energy.

In France, we see huge turbines being installed regularly and these are welcomed by locals in town and country because they subsequently see reductions in their bills, with free electricity being available for domestic use at certain times of the day. To be honest, my DH and I think the turbines look rather majestic even though most of them tower over attractive rural areas.

As it happens, we too are loyal fans of Fred Olsen Cruises for all the reasons you mention with which we wholeheartedly agree!

Good morning all from the Black country sun shining once again but for how long?, yesterday managed to get towels dry before more nonstop heavy rain and a few claps of thunder.
No plans we never do plan anything on bank holidays, I used to volunteer to work double time and a day in lieu and now both retired can choose to go out anytime.
Madeleine hope you continue to improve and your trip to Muker goes ahead.

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. I had a very poor night but I am going to pretend I ve had enough sleep and get through the day .
My df and I are going on a bus ride deep into the Borders.

The weekend was exhausting. All the visitors to the open studios were great but I found myself telling everyone about my house sale and move even although the contracts are not yet signed.

One of my DS friends saw the advert for the house sale and thought I had died - then he saw I was having the open weekend so was relieved 😅 😧

I managed to slip away to return an ergonomic chair I had borrowed from friends who have a magnificent garden which I enjoyed before the heavens opened.

My df and I were invited out for dinner last night in the house she sold about 10 years ago. She'd not been inside since.

Bella, we have always had a Ventolin inhaler (with spacer) and peak flow meter here for Dollie. It has been used on a number of occasions.

I put wax discs on my jam, it does seem to last longer.
R&L, you shouldn't be lifting a heavy jam pan! I wasn't allowed to even lift a kettle for six weeks.

It was lovely yesterday, having Dollie, she is no trouble at all.
She asked for a cheese and ham sandwich for lunch, but I forgot to pick up ham at M&S.
I ran down to Lidl, met a close friend and forgot to come back.
DH wasn't in the least bit concerned, he knew that I must have met someone and was gossipping.

On getting into my car, I saw a message from a parishioner, trying to get hold of me, because there had been an incident. The curate advised her to contact me, as it was a both a Safeguarding and Health and Safety incident.
So much for a restful afternoon.

I won't bore you, by listing all my ailments, you must all be bored rigid. Same old, same old.

Good morning from a now dry N.Bucks. Severs showers yesterday and heavy rain during the night, more forcast for this afternoon.
A busy week coming up so we have decided not to go out today but just potter and see how it goes. Although we will pop in to see our next door neighbour who is now home after5 weeks in hospital. Her daughter is not convinced that her Mum will be able to stay at home.
DD3 and family are due home from France this afternoon so maybe a quick visit there. I love to see family enjoy holidays but I’m always pleased when they are back where they should be. This morning was also the last time for feeding their cats.

Morning from a cloudy S Hants, we had hefty showers last evening including R&L. They ended a lovely day sharing an Indian lunchtime buffet with children and gc. Treated like family in the restaurant, we have history there.

Good morning Mick and everyone from Carlisle where it seems the weather can't decide whether to be grey or bright.

Yesterday it was a quiet day after an early walk. I spent a boring time researching hotels for a holiday next year and read my book which I have now finished.

Today, I hope, will be dry as I want to be out planting in the garden but first I will change the bedding and feed the washing machine. A Bank Holiday means nothing to me now I'm not working.
Apart from that, I will just see what comes along...I shall probably find some odd jobs and may start a new book.

Good morning Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it looks as if it’s just stopped raining and is brightening up. I went to bed at eight o’clock last night and, apart from a bathroom break, slept through until seven!

We spent the day at Fountains Abbey yesterday and I’d forgotten what an amazing place it is, along with Studely Royal water gardens. The weather was very kind to us and we spent five hours walking round taking photos and had a lovely pub lunch on the way home. I was absolutely done in! I don’t intend to do a lot today.

Good morning everybody from Málaga where now at 8am the sun is just emerging behind Málaga city. On clear days like these the sweep of the bay in the distance is quite visible and the sun comes up behind those mountains at the back. A beautiful orange glow that casts shimmers of light across the cobalt blue Mediterranean, it looks spectacular. I find sunrise very uplifting, a day filled with hope, do you?

I’ve just opened my front door to the traffic below but I do love the smell of the pines which is more noticeable first thing in a morning. I’ve made a mug of tea and I’m back on the bed with my feet up.

I have new neighbours who are Dutch. They are a newly retired couple and said yesterday evening “everything is so much less expensive here than in Copenhagen! Our pensions will go far!”

I’m not sure of my plans today. A friend said she’d message me later. Mind you, sitting here in this gloriously tidy and clean apartment gives me great pleasure. 😁 My happy place.
