cossy I rather like drone shows, some of them are spectacular.

I checked the seafront ones start this weekend.

Seems someone was celebrating with fireworks, which really reverberate when used in close proximity to house.

I’ve never seen a drone show in “real life”, but saw one on tv and it was amazing and quite spectacular.

Cossy could it have been the first of the Autumn free Firework displays on the seafront?

Definitely not!

It was far too loud and really just bangers, I thought the one’s was a gunshot!

I have absolutely no objections to the Southend Seafront fireworks, my understanding is they are funded by local traders and they do bring people to the area.

I like fireworks, but in the right place.

My understanding is EuroDisney have replaced some of their displays with “silent” fireworks. All the beauty, none of the noise.

We have a very suspicious ice cream van comes round …I mean he has several hoody customers who appear to chat but don’t buy ice cream😲 he arrives playing the Popeye tune.In all weathers.

Probably drugs & booze.
Use to go on all the time in outskirts of cities.
There is a documentary about the ice cream wars in Glasgow

It’s well known fact around my way JJ

We have fireworks almost all year round. Any event, private or public, seems to need fireworks and they nearly all start around 1000 or 1100 pm. I guess that's when the event is finishing. I haven't heard quite so many this year, possibly because of the heatwave but at least one of the heath fires was started from a firework landing.

I would be happy to see only public displays.

According to D in Birmingham (and don’t ask me how she came by this information) fireworks are sometimes set off as a sign that a drug dealer has a supply to distribute or sell. So if you hear loud fireworks especially in daytime, it could be that!

Urban myth according to my friend in the police.

Thanks to Chestnut. I have completed. I llove to look at fireworks but not to the detriment of people and animals who may be traumatised. In that respect, I would be happy never to see them again until they bring in safe, soundless alternatives.

Completed thanks Chestnut I love fireworks and have put my view.

The Government are currently running an open consultation on fireworks where you can have your say. Scroll down to 'respond online' and then scroll down and click on the red arrow to start. You have to enter your name and e-mail address.

I have done this myself. It's a bit of a pain and doesn't always ask the questions you'd like to answer, but I just wrote what I thought anyway. I want them banned altogether except for organised licenced displays (like Australia) but there is no option for that as far as I remember. Still, that's what I told them whether they like it or not! 😏

Thank you, have completed, yes a bit of a pain!

Maremia Tue 01-Sept-26 10:37:40

Have signed banning petitions before, but if this is a different way in, will have a go.

Not just the daytime but in the early hours. It’s been going on since Covid 😩

Yep that’s it 👍🏻

some folk are so selfish, I'd ban them

Fallingstar Mon 31-Aug-26 21:49:37

So selfish.
And fireworks these days have massive bangs, like bombs going off.
I know some people set off fireworks to celebrate a special occasion but there are less selfish and quieter ways to do this.
As you say Cossy even with recent rain the ground is dry as are the trees and undergrowth.
Makes me so cross.

Certain areas we have them going off after midnight.
Absolute pain in the backside.
I’d just ban them full stop.

Oreo Mon 31-Aug-26 21:13:57

We live in a similar house and area of terraced streets to you, but in all our years here haven’t noticed any local fireworks.
Do you think it’s something common to your area to do this?
It really upsets pets, they must think a war has started!

Cossy Mon 31-Aug-26 20:09:16

Going off right now!

Why? We live in a terraced house, in streets of terraced houses, with tiny gardens.

We have four dogs in our house, two very reactive.

I just do not understand people.

Aside from the noise and pollution, despite two rainfalls in the last few days everything is very dry still.

Why oh why are some people so utterly selfish and irresponsible?
