Advertising vapes/vape products should be illegal

A ban is coming into effect on 1 June 2027.

My understanding is that billboard and outdoor advertising spaces are frequently bound by long-term corporate contracts signed months or years in advance. Implementing an immediate ban would trigger legal and financial disputes, resulting in breach-of-contract lawsuits between advertising agencies, landowners, and vape brands. The 2027 buffer allows existing contracts to expire naturally.

It is the unintended consequences of introducing solutions to a problem that was already declining in numbers. Smoking was declining, and would have continued to decline I suspect we will look back on the introduction of vaping as an error.

I think we will one day look back on the introduction of vaping in horror. I mean for starters, the plastic litter of discarded cartridges. Not to mention the chemicals and the harm to lungs... it's one of those things where I think to myself - whoever in their right mind thought it was a good idea?! (Answer - the moneymakers).

A nurse friend of mine said that vapes can cause a dangerous condition called wet lung. They might be a good way of weaning people off cigarettes but the way that young non smokers are being targeted as a new market is appalling.

They are supposedly illegal in Australia but you can get them legally from a chemist as a way to stop smoking cigarettes. People can still get them in other places of course. Not allowed to advertise,though. It seems to be mostly kids who use them with various flavours. Illegally of course.

I've always been a very anti-smoking/tobacco/cigars/vapes and always will be. Awful drug habit, so the sooner the adverts are banned, the better!
