Good morning Michael and all GN's from a very chilly , dark North Yorkshire . I think that the borrowers have been here, as at the moment, my watch seems to have disappeared, along with a favourite pen which is usually at a specific place. The remote for the tv in the lounge is nowhere to be seen either. Perhaps they are all tucked somewhere safe together! Well after yesterday there is much dumped down that needs sorting this morning.
Well bravery was definitely rewarded yesterday, and I had a lovely day - apart from physically of course. I had been in a lot of pain with the added annoyance of bad cramp in my leg, which even when it eased kept giving me that warning that it was about to start again. Very frustrating, as it was sunny and dry if chilly, and would have been a great day to clear up in the garden. So frustration level very high, I know myself well enough to know that if I stayed at home I would either keep trying to do things or just get so annoyed at what I couldnt do, so I went quickly down the market on the yellow peril and got a few things and then with much hobbling about I got myself a picnic together and coffee things together and spare jumpers and both my fleece to keep warm in the car and my big warm mac that I had for the artic and set off. I knew that if I was outside the car it would be very slow tortoise speed moving and the wind was quite biting and a really chilly morning. Nearly gave in as I was struggling so much and so slow, but I had seen an autumn festival in a village , supporting a cancer charity. So the plan was to go there for some coffee and a much round there and then if ok on to the coast. Well fortune favours the brave.
The journey was lovely seeing the countryside and having lovely music on radio 3. I had been to the village before but not found the village hall, so had to stop and ask someone as there seemed to be no signing of it anywhere and three different roads to choose from. However I eventually got there, and had my disabled badge on display , as I parked as near as possible to the entrance. I just sat for a few moments, trying to gauge if my leg was going to let me move and then got my act together and hobbled over.
Well it was a really lovely atmosphere, A buzz of conversation, people of all ages from babies to my sort of age, and obviously a lot of villagers , who were catching up with each other and manning stalls etc. There was a centre table where people where having their tea - or in my case coffee, with a beautiful autumn flower decoration and a lovely atmosphere.
I definitely had to keep sitting down and took my time going round , but there were all the stalls that can be expected at an occasion like this, and whilst I, regretfully had to leave lovely home made jam , I was very pleased to succumb to a beautifully home made meringue, which I carefully put aside to take with me for later. Then I wandered the stalls and saw some lovely plants and all sorts, naturally took some time looking at books , and then had a go on the tombola ,no good luck there, but then bought some tickets for the raffle. They were £1 each, but the raffle prizes were very good, and someone had obviously worked hard , persuading people to gift a lot of good things. I enjoyed meeting people and told someone how I had seen it in the local paper. I always try to let people know if I have found it through the paper, as I know myself , you can wonder if the expense of putting it in the paper is worthwhile and whether many people read it.So the secretary who had put it into the paper was pleased to hear that I had seen it there, and would not have known about it without the newspaper, as I dont live locally to them.
So all very nice and I had put my phone number on the tickets in case I had left when they drew the prizes, but as I collected my prize meringue I just asked when it was likely tobe drawn and they said in about 5 minutes, so I sat back down to watch the draw. As I have said before on other posts, I am usually the next to the winner number, and not in any great expection of a prize, but yes I was a winner! Clutching my bottle and my meringue I hobbled back to the car, having really enjoyed my time and reminded of my mother in the WI running similar things.
My leg was still causing me problems and I was still struggling and thought it was no good going home as there would be little I could manage , apart from getting more frustrated!! So I took myself off to Saltburn. It was definitely a very autumn morning, clear but quite a biting wind.
I made it to the the promenade and after quite a bit of cruising up and down managed to get into a rather narrow space, but was then able to get myself sorted. With my rather squashed sandwich, a small pork pie and of course my much anticipated meringue, and some fresh coffee made, I was happily ensconsed with a good view of the surfers, dogwalkers, families well wrapped up and with my binoculars to hand ,and my Yorkshire post at the ready I sat there quite happily for a couple of hours. I hobbled out a couple of times to try a little walk along the prom, but my leg and the cold rather defeated me and was glad to get back and warmed up and let the binoculars show me what was going on. I did make the most of my day and then came home, getting parked and a bit of the unpacking brought in, but the rest to be sorted today.
I was pleased to get warmed up, and started to sort things out but my back was very painful and I eventually sat down to see the late news and of course promptly fell asleep in the chair and woke about 2am, surrounded by all the things I had not done! Getting to be a bad habit this. However hobbled off to bed to get warmed up and eventually got to sleep.
So it was a lovely day, ignoring the pain and cramp bit, and will provide a good memory for lesser days in the future. So no great plans for today apart from tidying up, returning things to their proper place, hunting the snark - well the watch actually - and it will just be the mundane routine, but with good radio to accompany my day, the rest of the paper to read and generally try to end up facing next week , with things neat and sorted and ready for whatever that brings .How lovely to have a good day that worked out well, to brighten the spirit. Well it doesnt seem to be either warming up at all or even a sign of any daylight so far.
I hope you have a good domestic day Mick, enjoy your cycling.GrandMattie hope all goes well with your day. I have never tried doing anything with quince, although I like the smell of them. My great aunt used to have quince and medlar trees besides the usual apple and one pear tree, but I was very young then and hadnt really begun baking or making jams. Melanie61 glad all went well for your husband and hope that he will soon be pain free and able to do more things. Glad to read you had a good catch up with your friend Greyduster. I am reminded that I must get my calendar up to date and then ring my oldest friend to organise a get together before christmas things take over the whole month. My oldest friend of 79 years and even when we see each other so few times in the year we carry on as if we had only been apart for a couple of days. We may meet in York, but I think we might look for somewhere over on the wolds. It seems so long since I have been over that way,
Time to get going and I think for once today I may have something more than cereal, on this chilly day. Perhaps even a boiled egg might be pleasant. Have a lovely brown speckled shell that will just look lovely in my white eggcupThe wonderful Bach Brandenburg is the Bach before 7 on the radio so I shall hear the rest of that and then make a start.Wishing all GNs a peaceful and happy day, with contact with a loved one.

Good Morning Sunday 18th October 2026
(9 Posts)Good morning from a dark mid-Wales. Currently 3 degrees with sun forecast later.
Yesterday our table came fifth out of ten in the pub quiz. Not bad considering there were only two of us. Just a bit of fun really. We did very badly on the round on YouTubers and Social Media celebrities!
Today I am driving back home to Herefordshire after church. I intend to spend the afternoon reading and knitting.
Stunning housecoat karmalady beautiful colours.
Happy day all.
Good morning from south Glos where it’s dry and chilly but sunshine later so I’ll get the washing dried outside.
Yesterday I walked bigger dog, we wandered around the lanes and she enjoyed sniffing everything while I enjoyed the sunshine and observing the wonderful autumn hues and all the hips and haws as well as huge amounts of Old Man’s Beard in the hedgerows. There were lots of fallen chestnut cases but few conkers, piles of beech masts everywhere and quite a lot of hazelnuts. A walnut tree on the estate has been shedding walnuts too, I have picked up a few.
There was a beautiful red kite drifting overhead, how I love that languid way they float across the sky. We also have buzzards here, one came very low overhead during our afternoon dog walk.
DH finished hedge/bush cutting yesterday, it looks good. He has an MRI this morning so I’m dog walking; it’s lovely to be outside and able again.
The forecast is for rain next week, we so badly need it, so I will dig out better boots for walking and my wellies in anticipation. I need to get back to walking every day, I so miss it.
I too am always ready early grandMattie unlike DH who is deplorably late for just about everything, it drives me mad because I think it’s very bad manners. I’m glad you had a nice time away, I hope to book somewhere for a night or two, just me because DH doesn’t want to go anywhere.
Have a lovely day if you can 🌹
Good morning from s somerset, we are expecting a bright sunny day but it is rather cool, I`ll have to find my draught excluders, it is time
My trip to the allotment yesterday was just lovely and I brought some young strawberry plants home and did a lot of weeding but that was very easy, the soil was crumbly and dry. I had 6 ever-bearers at home towards the end of summer and they were still producing fruit yesterday. I will be adding to them now the parsnip bed is cleared
My housecoat is finished and of course I was dreading the buttonholes, not sure if they would work on this fabric, all was good until the very last buttonhole, I unpicked it four times until I worked out that the curved binding at the top was causing the problem on the automatic sensor. Unpicking buttonholes on that double gauze fabric was not easy and I definitely did not want a hole. Manual buttonhole worked and lesson learned
Anyway, it is warm cosy and very comfortable, cotton double gauze with a warm filling, like a sandwich. The pattern was Salis by Itch to stitch and I simply elongated the bottom and tapered out a bit. I will be making a Salis jacket before too long
I have a lot of tidying to do today and my sewing room is very bad as was the untidy kitchen before I went to bed. I`ll be doing those first today and I need some PJs, I was feeling cool in bed last night. I will start to make some later today in flannel cotton, I bought the fabric last week, it is beautiful quality
Thankfully I have food made for the main meal for three days and I made the parkin, which is maturing out of sight
Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it is currently 6 degrees (“but feels like 2”). We are promised sunshine later.
I’m glad your DH’s surgery went well, Melanie.
Yesterday was a rather sedentary day but it was very good to be able to share it with my friend of many years who I don’t see all that often these days. There has to be much poring over calendars! We caught up on family news, generally put the world to rights and laughed a lot. DS FaceTimed in the evening from a B&B in the Lake District where they were having a long weekend.
Today I will have a quiet day with paperwork to attend to, and a walk featured at some point, but in the meantime I am not in a hurry to leave my bed!
Have the best day you can, folks.
Good morning from a dark and chilly corner of La Sarthe.
Despite planning to stay indoors for fear of encountering demonstrations yesterday, DH had to go out as we needed cat food. I’m enjoying a dry rosé, Grenache, which he discovered is available in 5litre boxes so we have one to take back to Torbay. But will it fit in my fridge❓❗️
A blessed Sunday to you all. 🦩🥰✝️💐🦩
Good morning from Sheffield
I’ve not posted for a few days. I’ve been so busy.
Hubby had his carpal tunnel surgery on Wednesday. It went very well. The hand centre was fantastic. They were so kind and very efficient.
As he can’t do much I’ve been working and looking after him. I’m pacing myself and not doing anything that’s not necessary. Dusting has gone out of the window.
He’s glad the pain has gone away, just the wound is a bit sore.
We went for a lovely walk yesterday. It was good to get some fresh air. I will be sorting out laundry today and resting, ready for the week ahead
Take care everyone
Good morning from Bristol. The mornings gave suddenly turned very chilly - it’s 5C outside, with a promised maximum of only 13C.
Yesterday went well. I was packed and ready early as I hate making people wait…. DD hasn’t inherited her parents’ need to be on time; everything is done at the eleventh hour…. We left the flat clean, tidy, beds stripped, etc., as requested. An easy journey home, with no hitches, though it seemed odd that so many cars were going the same direction as us. Doesn’t the traffic normally go to the West Country at weekends and holidays?
Safely delivered home, I set about unpacking and sorting myself out. I thawed a meal for dinner and had an early night - not before changing my summer weight duvet for a heavier one. Put the heating on too!
Today, I have church in the morning. One church lady is trying to offload all her extra produce on me; apart from not liking her, I’m very busy atm and really don’t need extra work. Having said that,I gave in at the offer of quinces,; I love the scent of the fruit and the jelly it produces.
In the afternoon, I need to make a fruitcake, allowing for maturing time for the FAB cafe’s next live concert, finish my Spanish homework (about Garcia Lorca), do some washing to be hung out, make a casserole so I only need to reheat it tomorrow…
May today bring only blessings. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🌹🦩
