I know we have been lucky in that the start of October was mild, and that now we are back to more 'seasonal' temps ..BUT, I don't know if it is because I've been used to being relatively warm, but now it's plummeted I can't seem to adjust.I've felt really chilled the last few days and have felt cold in bed.I feel it's 'Too early' for me to feel like this and I don't really want to take any of my winter measures just yet !! Is it just me ?

Did some gardening and had coffee out there…but with body warmer on and an awareness of icy breeze.

Still wearing sandals with thick thermal socks (🥹), full heating on for two hours, oil filled radiator for after and heated throw for feet.

Cats both curl up sleeping against me, and 15 tog duvet on the bed already.

A couple of weeks early Rocketstop, depends on the year.

HelterSkelter1 Sun 18-Oct-26 19:42:44

The east wind has been very cold especially today. The house feels very draughty. I have just put on some thermal socks to wear in bed. If my feet are warm the rest of me joins in.

The heating has switched on a couple of times as it is set for 19 year round.
Yesterday we drove to Somerset from Bedfordshire and I kept an eye on the temperature - Swindon was the chilliest place on our journey at 4C at about 7 am.

I have been wearing gloves when out and about and a jumper indoors but not too chilly out of the wind.

Wood burner lit this afternoon. Went to sleep directly in the warmth .

Heating on here morning and evening but last evening I had to turn the thermostat up.
10:5 tog duvet on but it is slightly too warm.

Baggs Sun 18-Oct-26 19:11:52

Yes. Have been for weeks with occasional warmish days. It's never actually hot here.

Sarnia Sun 18-Oct-26 19:11:42

I won't put the heating on yet but my winter quilt is on my bed.
Getting older has made me less resistant to cold weather.

No heating on yet but I’ve switched to the winter duvet and the electric blanket has been in use for a week.
The coastal winds are my bugbear though.

Nope.

Summer duvet still on & no heating needed yet however the insulation in this newly built (17 year old) development is excellent.

Nice as it means I can spend my pensions on more frivolous things. Lucky me.

Unlucky other people.

Heating stays on all year - with the thermostat set at 18.5 degrees. So it has come on once or twice recently because the temperature in the house has fallen below 18.5.

Rocketstop2 Sun 18-Oct-26 18:58:59

Ooh I take that back.Sorry Jaxjacky !!

Same as SueDonin here. I’m in the North East, where it’s usually far cooler for us than for those GNs down South.
It’s been really chilly today with a cutting wind at times - hat, scarf and gloves have had an outing! Heating on at home since I got home an hour ago.

Yes, cutting wind here too. I have definitely been thinking of getting the hat and gloves out.
I'm North-ish so I guess we are feeling it a bit more than Southern GN's.

Heating on and electric blanket in use in Hampshire, Raynauds is back 😕

grannyqueenie Sun 18-Oct-26 18:53:45

Heating just on for an hour 1st thing and it’s felt chilly in the house when sitting. (maybe that’s a sign that I should be gave been busy doing more housework) grin The 4tog duvet stays on all year round here, with a fleecy blanket at the ready if needed.

jusnoneed Sun 18-Oct-26 18:51:46

We have had frost the last two mornings (Dorset), followed by sunshine although today there was a stronger breeze. But inside the house it is 19/20 degrees so no heating needed.
Still no duvet on my bed, I just use the cover and have added a very light fleece throw. I know I would be too warm with the duvet and I hate being too warm in bed.

It was down to 2deg here last night so yes, I’ve felt the cold. I no longer have Dh to keep me warm in bed so the electric blanket keeps me warm at bedtime.

Aww SueD, Needs must eh ?

MawsRosie Sun 18-Oct-26 18:50:13

I have Rosie the greyhound. I also love it when she hops up beside me on the sofa and wriggles round into the small of my back.
Good as a hottie! If you ignore the bony elbows
