I am definitely going to see this film which has just come out.

A combination of Nighy, Ishiguro & Kurosawa, plus 4 & 5 star reviews - how good can you get!

There's a video trailer in the link

Definitely. The trailer I saw at the cinema last week looked great and Nighy is such a good actor.

Time for me to watch Love Actually again soon too!

I’m staying with a friend and I am introducing her to the decadence that is going to the cinema at 10.30 in the morning. Will report back on movie

Humbert my friend and I have just booked for tomorrow afternoon - we couldn't do the 10.30 as it's Baby Club...."no baby, no entry!" smile

My U3a Cinema Group saw Living yesterday. Mixed reviews. It's very slow to start one or two even nodded off! It got slightly better but it wasn't what any of us were expecting it to be.

The critics say that it’s the performance of Nighy’s career.
I dispute that.
His finest performance was Roger in ‘No Commitments’ grin

Answering the question: I won’t watch it.
I can’t watch anything at all sad

Ooh that looks good! I'm a bit worried it might give my 91 year old Dad ideas though... 😂

Clawdy Mon 07-Nov-22 14:28:52

Love Bill Nighy, but it does sound sad.

'No Commitments' Brilliant radio show and the Roger character was tremendous. I also enjoyed BN in 'The Charles Paris Mystery' series.

Every actor was well chosen for their respective parts.
Over and above the obvious storyline, it has left me pondering.

Bill Nighy took over David Bowie’s role in the new series of The Man who fell to Earth. Excellent choice imo

I love Bill Nighy...hhmmm.

It's brilliant. It made me laugh and cry - always a sign of a good film.

I know what you mean GrannyRose15 I wont ask you which parts made you laugh and cry, we dont want to spoil it for others.

I really enjoyed the film - it's mellow and elegant in that Ishiguro 'Remains Of The Day' way,

It's very atmospheric and begins with film reels of 1950s London.

I highly recommend - and it's not a weepy!

Namsnanny Thu 10-Nov-22 10:58:29

I think it's better than Remains of the Day Riverwalk Bill Nighy is the perfect actor to play a middle class Englishman.
As you say, perhaps not a weepy in the normal sense of the word.
But tears of sadness, anger and frustration did sting the back of my eyes, at some scenes.

I'd like to see it but my DH died early last month and I don't think I can cope with it yet.
I loved Bill Nighy in I Capture the Castle.

Along with a few of the comments here, I have also heard some people I know describe this film as "slow" or "boring".

I haven't been to the cinema for about 4 years (I don't like going on my own and my husband has lost interest in TV, cinema, etc, etc). I had read the very good reviews of Living and mentioned it to a friend who said she'd like to see it too - we were both willing to risk being bored.

We both thought it was an absolutely wonderful film - great acting, photography, music - and story. I found it full of meaning and very moving.

Namsnanny Thu 24-Nov-22 16:49:49

I agree Eloethan smile

A wonderful sensitive delightful film - in fact the best I have seen for years. Highly recommend it & I love Bill Nighy.

Bridie22 Fri 25-Nov-22 07:00:02

It's a slow moving film, but you find yourself drawn in, beautiful and sad.

Luckygirl3 Fri 25-Nov-22 08:18:46

I can't stand Nighy! For my money he does not act; he just drones on in his dull voice sounding the same in every film/programme.

Namsnanny Fri 25-Nov-22 09:41:00

Isnt it funny how we all see things differently!smile
Sounding the same in every film lots of actors seem to do something along those lines. Once they are known for a 'type' they get cast as it.
