Over 50? Here's what you're not allowed to do.

Obviously he's never heard of Cher (73) or any of the other wonderful women who say 'get nipped' to life and ignore boring 37 year olds.

Just wondering what he looks like and how he dresses ?

I'm coming up to 65 and I don't care what I look like. I was told yesterday I dress for my age. Grrrrr. I won't be wearing those clothes again.

Who cares (I was thinking of some much more colourful language but have politely refrained) what some puerile irrelevant nonentity thinks? We've all got to this stage of life by a combination of good luck, good genes and sheer guts. Go for it girls, whoever and however you want it to be.

As the next generation is now approaching 50, I'd better have a word with my DSs.

Who makes these 'rules' anyway. I'm in my 60's have hair to my waist and still wear short skirts. Things I supposedly shouldn't do after the age of 35! I certainly don't care what the clothes police say I shall do as I please

This was apparently first said in 1878 by William Hepworth Thompson, Master of Trinity College, Cambridge at a College Meeting of the Fellowship. Sounds like this chap is way behind the times, if you ask me. Should have been born in the last, oops, nineteenth century.

Surely everyone over 50 (especially females) are sitting around knitting, discussing their arthritis, complaining about "youngsters of today", baffled by something called "the internet" and comparing notes on the best sensible shoes.

Now you have to excuse me I am off to find a site where I can book to go sky-diving!

The journalist is a young fogey of 37. As The Times is behind a paywall, I was only able to read the first few lines of an article he wrote two years ago entitled 'Why I Love my Gran'. I wonder if his gran has read today's article; moreover, wouldn't it be great if she was on Gransnet!

Ah, bless, what a shock he is going to have in a few more years when he starts galloping through his 40s.
