Shave or not to shave? I’m as nature intended. Do you go Brazilian, have a landing strip or let it all hang out.

Shave or not to shave? After ladygarden thread, do you go Brazilian, landing strip
or let it all hang out?
I’m as nature intended, plus I’m too lazy. Hair gets thinner too everywhere as time goes by, even grey down there! One can touch it up with a dab of mascara if it’s going to be seen?

hollysteers - yes mostly grandmothers. But why not discuss this stuff? Or are you young and think sex stops forever at 45?

Aepgirl Tue 28-Jan-20 13:01:56

Appparently it’s the result of ‘porn movies’ that ladies have started shaving it all off. My view is that it’s there for a reason, although I do trim the edges if I am going to wear a swimsuit.

* Grannyjay* - just what I expected to hear. Let the woman go to the pain and trouble so that I can enjoy myself more. Women should go bald only if THEY want to and not pander to this selfish attitude. Glad I gave the programme a miss.

Partly on this subject, has anyone lost their underarm hair and been able to dispense with antiperspirant because of lack of sweating? I have, but don't know if it's something to be worried about, or just a beneficial effect of menopause.

All off at our lovely local waxing studio, where they are very , ahem, "thorough". Although I championed a full bush for years I much prefer it this way. I understand a lot of men do this now too.

grandtanteJE65 Tue 28-Jan-20 12:21:43

I am one of those who am sad that hair gets thinner as time goes by!

Grannyjay Tue 28-Jan-20 12:20:29

On the BUSH programme last night a young man stated that he wanted his girl shaved because he could see everything exposed and enjoyed watching his penis entering her. All pure selfish demands and very much proves women are easily brainwashed into thinking we are unclean and also smell if you look at the intimate products bombarded on us. Advertising used to seek insecurity in women and suggestive language saying we need to use their products to not smell. We never see programmes like this to degrade men.

Ramblingrose22 Tue 28-Jan-20 12:15:04

As others have said, I bet the bald look was inspired by porn. I object to being expected to look like a porn star and to suffer the pain of having it done and the regrowth period.
If other women choose to go bald because they themselves prefer it that's fine.

I read once about a teenage schoolboy who managed to put his hand down the knickers of a girl at school and was horrified, saying "Ugh - it's a forest down there"! I wonder what he'd have said if he'd seen the "forest" as well.

If men prefer a bald/Brazilian pube let them set an example and shave down there themselves first. But I expect they're too busy worrying about the size of their "equipment".

@NanaandGrampy ???

To state the obvious - young women mostly shave/wax for young men. Especially in the USA. I've read things on lines such as girls having regular wax just in case they get lucky and they don't want a bloke"going ew" when the bush is revealed. False expectations set up. Also porn the girls are all shaven. Not a nice thought- shaven parts look like a little girl.
I have enjoyed the humour!!! X

MTDancer Tue 28-Jan-20 11:39:48

I have lichen sclerosis and I cant even were any knickers unless they are unleashed non coloured cotton.
Please dont put harsh chemicals anywhere near your pubes. Trim with scissors if need be

Cambia Tue 28-Jan-20 11:24:06

Neatly trimmed but grey! After a disastrous incident with a certain hair remover cream (my fault, put it where it never should have gone), I couldn’t sit down for a week and ended up slathered in nappy rash cream!

Quite like the idea of plaiting it though, could take a while for dreadlocks.....

Theoddbird Tue 28-Jan-20 11:19:14

It is hair we are meant to have. I don't get the shaving, trimming, waxing and shaving bit. Oh and I watched the prog last night about it. I was shocked at how the young were brainwashed into thinking it should not be there. I am glad that the young lady who made the prog is trying to change things...

HannahLoisLuke Tue 28-Jan-20 11:19:09

Just trimmed for the beach, otherwise left alone.

Actually what is the facination with giving the pubic hair a decorative finish? I'm sure it all started with the proliferation of porn, especially shaving it all off to resemble a child! Why??? Seems creepy to me.

Caramac Tue 28-Jan-20 11:05:36

I watched the programme ‘Where did our pubic hair go’ last night and found it interesting. Complete removal seems to stem from porn so that a better close up and personal view is provided.
I’m troubled by the fact that some men are disgusted by women’s pubic hair. If my DH asked me to remove the lot I’d say “You first “.
Pubic hair is natural and serves a purpose. I just prefer to remove any that show outside a cossie.

Moggycuddler Tue 28-Jan-20 10:51:22

I am 63 and my pubic hair is now thinner and more or less grey. It's been natural and just trimmed a little for neatness all my life.

Catlover123 Tue 28-Jan-20 10:43:18

I just leave it as it is, as I have got older it has got very thin anyway. I watched that programme on channel 4 'naked attraction' and was amazed on the the variations! but they were all shaved and when they did close ups you could see that they looked horrible- like chicjken skin! yeukk I'm sure, as some of you have already pointed out, that it is not healthy - I mean why do we have it there anyway? there must be a good reason!!

Mollygo Tue 28-Jan-20 10:30:54

The change between the birth of two children, one with a shave and the irritating regrowth and the other with no need to shave was a great relief to me. I only ever make sure nothing is showing round my swimming costume, but some cozzies now are so brief they need a Brazilian. It’s like tattoos, piercings etc. Someone somewhere decides it’s what should be done, puts it on social media and folk think they HAVE to do it.

pamdixon Tue 28-Jan-20 10:28:50

hilarious reading all your comments! made my day

Belleringer Tue 28-Jan-20 10:25:31

After I had a hysterectomy the whole lot disappeared! So smooth as a baby's bottom now and no need for shaving or waxing.

Jillyblom59 Tue 28-Jan-20 10:08:42

I used to be a midwife and then worked in sexual health, so I’ve seen how things have changed from women being totally ungroomed to completely hairless. I have to say that personally I think it all looks better just neatly trimmed. I used to see some shocking rashes, ingrowing hairs and spots, all from shaving or waxing. It’s a fashion thing and it will all change again.

Purplepoppies Tue 28-Jan-20 10:04:55

I'm on a bus laughing ?. Almost missed my stop!!
I have shaved in the past but can't be doing with the ingrowing hairs....
Neatly trimmed now ?

Greeneyedgirl Tue 28-Jan-20 09:36:29

You are right about the portrayal of nudes in his history, but I wouldn't be so quick to diss Mary Beard because she makes history particularly accessible to many who are not as learned as you MOnica.

But yes, perhaps if artists through the ages had portrayed women in a more realistic way as nature intended there wouldn't be so much distaste in popular culture for female hair nowadays, so not just down to porn.

Perhaps porn is the modern day equivalent of macho power??

M0nica Tue 28-Jan-20 09:01:46

Another 70s mother with an uncomfortable experience. Thankfully second child arrived too quickly for them to do it.

But my real objection is the paedo/porn connections.

It was on the news today that Mary Beard has announce that the naked women, goddesses, nymphs and other mythical peope who have appeared in art, mainly since the renaissane, were commissioned by men from men for men.

My mind boggles. Has it really taken her that long (how old is she?) to realise this? The rest of the world has realised this since they were first painted, only about 600 years!

The point of this digression being, that none of these naked ladies, painted for rich men's private delectation, have pubic hair. Nor do a significant numbers of those classical Greek, Roman and later sculptures of naked women (and men). And she calls herself a classicist confused

Iam64 Tue 28-Jan-20 07:19:19

Grandma2213, yes, I was shaved for a birth experience in the early 70's. It was a horrible experience and as you say, the regrowing period equally horrible. Why would you do that willingly.
I still find this subject a challenge because why would an adult woman want to look like a child?
