Rowantree

HI all - not sure whether to say that I was told I had won £200 of Bon MArche vouchers but when they came, there were £50 of them with a note saying 'congratulations for having won £50 of BM vouchers' or something similar. I'm fine about it - someone clearly made an error and it must have been £200 in total, so actually that means other people must have won some too? And that is much fairer. I'd never have been able to spend so many! Just for the record - thought it was important to log that, for future reference smile

Oh no, you were meant to receive the full £200. I'll drop the PR an email to see what's going on.

Hello Everyone and a Happy New Year to you all.

2013 was a good year for me in terms of winning competitions. I never win anything, not even a horse race. However during 2013 I won two books and........a marvellous new year break with Warners Leisure at Holme Lacey.

Thank you Gransnet, not just for the competitions (although lovely to win) but for your fabulous website.

Copas Turkeys competition

I won the Copas Turkey competition and just wanted to say Thank you and what a wonderful Turkey it was. Also included were Turkey forks wonderful for turning large joints in the oven plus the most delicious gravy. Finally an apron to keep me clean. The family agreed it was the best turkey we had every had, and we do normally have a fresh turkey, and it was very easy to cook.

Love The Little Old Lady Who Broke All The Rules - it is my bedtime reading, I love Hamish Macbeth and feel that the simplicity of the writing is very similar. An easy read and tempting to try the same.

Wallygrom Sat 04-Jan-14 08:20:55

Half way through 'The Little Old Lady Who Broke all the Rules'.....wasnt sure it would be cup of tea, but now cant put it down!! I can almost see me in that position in years to come......

You're more than welcome to add the review to our reviews section for this book. So glad she liked it!

I was lucky enough to win this book and gave it to my grand daughter to read. Below is a copy of her review:-

The Twistrose key.
This book is about a girl whose pet vole Rufus dies; so she spends many hours by the rosebush where he is buried. She loves to play troll hunting games and calls herself Twistrose. One day a parcel arrives for her by the name of Twistrose; it contains two keys one for the cellar and one fit into a crack in the wall of the cellar. She opens a door to another world, she meets Rufus and realises it is the home for all dead animals who ever loved a child. She is set a task to find the missing winterfryst boy Isvan. If she completes the task she will get a statue in her name but if she fails she will not be able to return home...
The characters in the story are well described and you feel like you know them. Lin and her pet Rufus also meet lots of other animals that are mostly kind but a couple who they steer well away from. Lin is just like anyone of the age group, but the animals can talk and grow a bit and stand on their hind legs like humans. It also vividly sets the scene and all the senses, for example: sight and smell.
This book is mainly for children aged 10-12 but it does get confusing and easy to lose the plot. The main theme is about children and their pets when the pets die as it talks about the pets themselves missing the children.
The story is written well and it is easy enough to follow with the occasional paragraph that is a bit slow. It is a long book and the ending is brilliant, and I am hoping she writes more for me to read!
I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys an adventure and long reads at once.

Just how much horlicks is that? hmm So glad you are a fan. It got product placement on Call the Midwife.
Thanks GN for the picture books, I read two of them over Skype yesterday and got GS attention for a change. poo, wee, farts, terrifying dinosaurs - all grist to the 5 year old mill, but definitely not "good granny" territory grin

Grannyknot Mon 30-Dec-13 11:12:25

Yegads, should I be embarrassed?! (having already won something from GN this month). I'm doubly delighted. Husband is going to be over the moon with the gardening vouchers, and we both love our Horlicks of a night.

I told my daughter and she replied "LOL, are you the only one entering?" but I've always had a 'lucky streak' (pity not for the Lotto!)

Thank you, Gransnet and the competition sponsors! grin

KatGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 30-Dec-13 09:21:54

Congrats to grannyknot who has won £100 of gardening vouchers and a year’s supply of Horlicks.
