Unwanted prizes (not from Gransnet!)

Last week I opened an e-mail and found that I'd won a competition. My 'prize' was 4 tickets to the live recording of the final of X-Factor. X-Factor is a programme that I don't watch. I catch the odd snippet if I pass through the room while my wife and daughter are watching it. I don't like the format, I don't like the hype, and I don't like the idea that it makes Simon Cowell even more rich. Luckily, my wife and family enjoy the show and will go to watch the final in Manchester next month.

But it set me wondering what is the worst prize I've won - this one qualifies, as it's something I actively dislike. The other 'prize' that springs to mind was one I received when I was 20 and had no car. It was an implement to scrape ice off a windscreen and it arrived on August 1st..

Now over to you, can you think of any unwanted or inappropriate gifts that you've won?

A paint roller and tray, I think the prize was supposed to be a room makeover, well it was in a way.

I entered a competition to win a microwave oven. I got the second prize - a microwave cook book. hmm

we won a week's holiday at a self-catering holiday camp for 6 people. 'WOW!' we thought. But the holiday had to be taken in the winter months and not during school holidays, I decided that if we took 4 friends I would probably end up doing the cooking, we took our bicycles and found the place was extremely hilly, we were right on the perimeter and felt as if we were in prison, my husband was not allowed to sail as it was so cold he would have got hyperthermia if he had fallen in,I could go on, it was the holiday from hell. We were really glad to leave. I have to say that we have since been back with the family in good weather and had a fabulous time.

Surely there must be a trophy somewhere for the truly dreadful bottle of wine that has appeared time after time in tombola/raffles?

I won a flight to Jersey for two people. No accommodation there..just a flight. At the time I was scared of flying sad. Oh anno; that is so cruel [but so funny]. And the paint roller reminds me of my mothers day present one year; a tin of paint and a brush and a promise from my ex that he'd look after the children for the day. The S.O. always wins something in the village raffle [they seem to have one every week]; it's usually biscuits and we always have to check the sell by date on them.

phoenix That's like the tin of prunes that turns up every year at the Harvest Festival.

When my mother was well into her 80s she won a skateboard in a raffle!

Twenty odd years ago I won £250 worth of eyebrow tattooing!
Needless to say I didn't collect!

When asked to donate a prize for a tombola, my ex used to take the label off a can of prunes and hand it in as a 'mystery prize'. Nuff said.

I would just love to win something LOL, the nearest I got was when my sister was a baby, I had gone to a Christmas Fayre, there was a fairy doll there you had to guess the name of, 2 of us put the same name & there had to be a draw, I of course lost, I so wanted that doll for my baby sister.
