How do you feel about getting older? Whether it's a pet peeve or, equally, something you like, let us know (in no more than two sentences) and you could appear in a brand new novel.

Pan Macmillan publishers want to get a snapshot of real women’s feelings about ageing. A selection of these will be included in the new book The Time of our Lives by Sunday Times Top Ten Bestseller Maeve Haran.

You might remember Maeve as the author of 90’s smash hit Having It All, a novel that sparked huge debate about whether women could work and have a family, and much more besides. As well as being a brilliant read, her new book is about four friends in their early sixties, and the new issues they face, twenty years older than the protagonists of Having it All.

Everyone who posts a comment will be entered into a draw to win one of 20 exclusive early reading copies of The Time of Their Lives, and everyone whose comments are used will be entered into a draw to win a luxury forest cabin break for four people – details HERE.

We also have an exclusive extract from the book which you can read here.

I can't stop it so I just accept it gracefully and enjoy living in the now.

Growing older means you have the experience to deal with whatever may crop up.

I don't mind getting older BUT I do mind the aches and pains plus the eyes and ears not working as well as they used to.

I like to be positive about everything in life and although I am 64 I still feel as if I am as young as my daughters and can still tackle adventure holidays. I think it is important to think young and try to enjoy doing everything for as long as you can. I'm also going to keep my waist length hair even though the colour is out of a bottle!

I love being older, being a grandma to five gorgeous grankids that adore me... all the love, but can hand them back. I love having lots of ME time, can go to bed when I want, get up when I want... Now the downsides.... just the aches and pains in my joints!!! I enjoy every day.... come rain or shine...

Age is something you cannot change - over 60 now but there's life in this old gal still - even if it means moving across from the fast lane to the middle.

Having had neither opportunity nor wherewithal to enjoy a gap year in my teens I'm now making up for it by travelling but hopefully spread over several years and in relative comfort. So far since sixty I've clocked up the equivalent of half the gap year I never had.

Getting older is liberating and retiring and being able to do my own thing is the icing on the cake. The aches and lack of energy melt away as soon as I see my adorable grandchildren.

posie Sun 16-Feb-14 22:50:34

Downside is aches & pains. Upside my lovely, adorable Grandchildren!

priorslee Sun 16-Feb-14 22:23:11

"Getting old" is just a state of mind. No point in worrying about it as that just makes it worse!

pfcpompeysarah Sun 16-Feb-14 22:01:41

I feel like my body is slowly breaking down, bit by bit. I would like to think I am wiser as I age but I am not sure others would agree!!

I'm not always so keen on getting older but I suppose by getting older, I've experienced many more things, made more friends, learnt new skills, made more happy memories. Age I suppose to brings new opportunities so it isn't all bad :-)

You know when you see a reflection of yourself and you see your mother, well recently in a shop window I saw a reflection of my Nan !

I walk every day as fast as I can to keep myself going that little bit longer.

Getting older is not so bad, especially if I feel a bit off and I no longer have to get myself to work, I can choose to have a quiet day.

I hate getting older. I look in the mirror and feel like a stranger is looking back at me. Also I have the time and more money to do what I want to do but not the stamina to do it. But nevertheless I am generally happy with lfe.

It's hard when your body's getting older, but your mind still feels 17!

merlotgran Sun 16-Feb-14 17:02:16

There is no longer the need to look at the bigger picture. Contentment can be found in a Rich Tea biscuit.

It's great, because I am fairly healthy, have spent most of my life associating with some really lovely people, and have happy memories, shared with some sad moments which everyone must have if they have lived life to the full.
No idea how much future I have, but I want to share as much of it as I can with my husband, and enjoy the company of the good friends I have, some of whom have helped make my life what it is.

joanf Sun 16-Feb-14 15:30:23

I like being old enough not to work anymore and to spend more time with my Grandchildren, but I hate mirrors!

ScodieHo Sun 16-Feb-14 14:58:27

Getting older is not a problem, as long as you remain healthy.

Gorki Sun 16-Feb-14 14:29:22

I enjoy laughing at my own "senior moments" like last week when I went into town by car and by mistake came back on the bus ! I don't like being offered a seat on the bus, though, as if I were old (!)although I always take it out of politeness.

janerowena Sun 16-Feb-14 14:21:52

I feel ambivalent - I love the greater assurance and knowledge that I have gained, whilst bitterly resenting the aches and pains that prevent me from enjoying life as I would wish to.
