How do you feel about getting older? Whether it's a pet peeve or, equally, something you like, let us know (in no more than two sentences) and you could appear in a brand new novel.

Pan Macmillan publishers want to get a snapshot of real women’s feelings about ageing. A selection of these will be included in the new book The Time of our Lives by Sunday Times Top Ten Bestseller Maeve Haran.

You might remember Maeve as the author of 90’s smash hit Having It All, a novel that sparked huge debate about whether women could work and have a family, and much more besides. As well as being a brilliant read, her new book is about four friends in their early sixties, and the new issues they face, twenty years older than the protagonists of Having it All.

Everyone who posts a comment will be entered into a draw to win one of 20 exclusive early reading copies of The Time of Their Lives, and everyone whose comments are used will be entered into a draw to win a luxury forest cabin break for four people – details HERE.

We also have an exclusive extract from the book which you can read here.

Have now developed the attitude that age is purely a number and you have to live the best life you can. Laugh and love, enjoy and have funsmile

The best thing about being old is being a nana and being able to hand back your grandchildren to their parents. All the fun, none of the stress!

Someone said "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade". So I try and see the positives in situations, rather than dwell on the negatives.

I was really shy as a child and a teen and wouldn't speak up for myself but as I've aged, I've grown in confidence through experiencing life, different jobs, and meeting new people. Now you can't shut me up for talking and trying to help people!

I look forward to getting older so when my husband retires we can spend quality time together and not be rushing round doing jobs every weekend

karen203 Mon 10-Mar-14 19:32:00

I'm enjoying time with my grandsons and they are certainly keeping me feeling young. Fun and more fun!

i use to worry about getting old and not being able to enjoy myself as much, however its true what they say with age comes wisdom, I am so much happier now, contented and enjoy all aspects of life, I feel I now have time to appreciate things and people more, plenty more patience and more zest for giving everything a good go and trying new and different things, which when I was younger would not dream of doing

lillyfer Mon 10-Mar-14 14:45:22

age has never bothered me, its how you feel and how much fun you have that matters

chrismuk Mon 10-Mar-14 14:21:04

At least as I grow older I have more time to spend with my grandchildren. Its a pity that my body won't let me do all the things they want me to!

tfettuk Mon 10-Mar-14 14:13:09

Knowing what you like and don't like so that your time is spent enjoying yourself more

Looking forward to retirement and a slowing down in the pace of life. I can do what I want when I want.

I used to dread getting older I was scared of being slower, forgetful and basically ignored. At age 39 I was diagnosed with early onset Parkinsons, an older persons disease. I was faced with the prospect of knowing my future, of knowing that my body would let me down and only get worse. But in some respects the slowing down as made me appreciate things I would have missed, and change the negatives into positives. Things that can be a curse can indeed also be a gift....I'm alive and well if a tad wobbly.

Although the body now has limitations, remember inside you still feel young (20 something) and try to keep this joy and excitement in your everyday life, never being afraid to try new activities and make new friends.

That sigh/groan when you get up from sitting for a long time. I remember laughing at my grandma when she did it, but now I find myself doing it too!

juneski Mon 10-Mar-14 08:26:57

The aches and pains may have increased, but so has my ability to enjoy life without letting little things and people who annoy me get in the way. smile

pixxie Mon 10-Mar-14 08:12:41

It hasn't made any difference to my life - just to my body - but I can live with that !

racarson39 Mon 10-Mar-14 02:03:39

I don't mind getting older, just wish my joints did too!

Mags59 Mon 10-Mar-14 01:11:55

I've found that getting older has its plus side. I've mellowed and now I've got the time and the patience to listen, talk and enjoy the company of family and friends.

angiehoggett Mon 10-Mar-14 00:07:05

I'm confortable with it because it brings wisdom and experience

vanessaspick Sun 09-Mar-14 22:56:58

Every day I get older is one more day to celebrate life and live it to the full. I refuse to grow old gracefully but I will do everything I can to exeprience life in every way legally possible

marissazak Sun 09-Mar-14 21:36:57

Thoughts on getting older? Easy.... summed up in three words. What's the alternative? Exactly. Embrace being here
..

I enjoy a lot of things about getting older, being comfortable with who I am and feeling settled in both my work and home life. Unfortunately, with age comes the wrinkles, aching bones and weak bladder. On the whole, I have the prospect of grandchildren to look forward to and that will make getting older worth every line, twinge and dribble pale into insignificance!
