Attention all gransnetters, we're giving away a fabulous set of DVDs worth £199.42 courtesy of the lovely people at Twentieth Century Fox. The bundle includes a huge variety of films and television series such as Modern Family, Bones, The Fault in our Stars, The Book of Life and many more - perfect entertainment for all the family during a miserable month of April showers.

To be in with a chance of winning we want you to tell us which movie you would screen (and why) if you had your very own cinema for just one night. The more funny and outrageous the better. May the Force be with you all smile

*Congratulations trisher, you are the lucky winner. We LOVED the hilarious account of what you would have everyone do whilst screening South Pacific!*

Probably Pretty Woman because it is such a great film and I would love to watch it with my daughter smile

I would love to win "The Green Mile" - I love all of Tom Hanks movies. I find this one especially inspiring and it always leaves me in tears!

I would screen CHAPPIE and ET (and have plenty of tissues at the ready for the sad bits...)

For two reasons it has to be Far From the Madding Crowd....original version please.

First reason...it has always been my favourite film... then 25 years ago I moved to this tiny village, and was promptly invited to supper by a lovely lady who was actually in it !! We've been firm friends ever since.

Second reason... the divine Terence Stamp as Sgt Troy ... oh my oh my !!

the great escape a true classic

Singing in the Rain - classic film suitable for all ages.

Countryfan Fri 10-Apr-15 07:29:51

Groundhog Day.

In 2006, the film was added to the United States National Film Registry as being deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". I think the Americans have got it absolutely right: this is not only one of the best films ever made but it is also a wonderful, light-hearted study of life.

I'd invite my grandchildren over to watch it with me and I'm sure we'd have a few 'eek' moments at the drama; a few 'aaw' moments at the love and quite a few 'laugh out loud' moments at the comedy.

The children are just beginning to understand themes or messages in books so, afterwards, I'd ask each of them to tell me what messages they thought were being delivered in the film.

I might also throw in that perplexing mathematical question: 'How many days did Phil spend in the time loop?' to see how their maths is coming along!

Harold & Maude ~ funny, poignant & a great soundtrack smile

"Blazing Saddles" had me chuckling all sat round the camp fire, eating beans when the action started, one of the funniest films I've every seen, I was really sore afterwards, it was a gas, if you will excuse the pun.

AshTree Thu 09-Apr-15 22:42:50

It would have to be The Love Bug, that fabulous and silly film about Herbie the VW. Why? Because we watched that in the beautiful, quaint Lynton Cinema on honeymoon in 1971. Well, when I say 'watched'... come on, we were on honeymoon!
So I'd quite like to see it properly grin

Top Gun would be brilliant on the large screen again. The music is awesome and I love the aerial dog fight at the end where Maverick re-engages and downs the MiGS.

'Rain Man' because there's a little something everyone can relate to, and the film does make you question the way you, or people in general, look at life, problems, make judgements based on appearances and actions etc. This was one of the first films where I really appreciated the lengths some actors go to in order to render a realistic performance of a complex character. A great film to inspire discussion.

Maybe show some Harry Potter or something afterwards to lighten the mood ;)

Gone With The Wind, a long film but entertaining all the way through, the characters are great and the story is wonderful and its like you are transported to those days,

Bengo2005 Thu 09-Apr-15 21:01:49

The original "Arthur", This was the first date movie for my wife & I over 30 years ago and it would be great to recreate that special night.

Something to sing along with very loudly
With my voice it would have to be a closed cinema!
My choice? Mamma Mia!
Just love that film

Envious Wed 08-Apr-15 01:40:52

Id screen Sunset Boulevard. Seeing William Holden stretched out on that couch!...well I just can't see it enough! Oh! and if I could pick a second it would be "Hud" with Paul Newman trying to seduce Patrica O'Neil.Such a strong woman resisting those blue eyes! I wouldn't of care how cold hearted he was! grin

Dirty rotten scoundrels, I'd have to wear my incontinence pants watching this x

Most of my favourites have already been nominated. But for me there can be only one winner, The Ladykillers. What a masterpiece! I speak of the original made at Ealing in the fifties, not the recent remake.

Why? Several reasons: first, it is arguably the ultimate black comedy. Hilarious every time one of the bad guys is killed off. Secondly, it had a superb cast and every one of them deserved an Oscar. Alec Guinness as the oleaginous “Professor”, blunt instrument Herbert Lom, Cecil Parker as the cowardly con man, Danny Green as “One Round”, the dumb muscle man with a heart of gold and of course Peter Sellers as a (he was young then) Teddy boy. The third reason is the performance of the wonderful Katy Johnson, a real pensioner who it is said, had never acted in anything before. She played the naïve old lady who wins out in the end.

The film was made on a budget that today would be regarded as impossibly mean. If I could screen the original Ladykillers in a cinema today, I would fill the place with aspiring script writers and actors, so that they can see how excellent lines delivered with perfect timing by accomplished professionals can be achieved at a modest cost.

Coneheads - an underappreciated comic masterpiece

Enjoyed RIPD

Weekend At Bernies is a hilarious film from the 80's about 2 guys who visit their boss at his weekend holiday home, the boss dies but the guys are having so much fun partying that they don't want to report his death and miss a fun filled weekend so they cart the body around with them all weekend pretending he is still alive, sounds macabre but give it a watch - soooo funny

aasmith1803 Fri 03-Apr-15 10:53:00

The original Star Wars, just has to be seen on the big screen and everyone invited would have to come as their favourite Star Wars character

dubdubdub Thu 02-Apr-15 09:14:29

Honey I shrunk the kids - Oh how I wish I were able to sometimes!

I would love to be able to see them using their wonderful exciting imagination to cope with the many obstacles they would encounter.

No doubt they would make great entertainment!

Pamaga Thu 02-Apr-15 08:15:35

I'd opt to watch Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom. An archaeology professor whose career lies in ruins has a bone to pick with his bosses and engages in skullduggery. My family just loves this groundbreaking film!

tuffy1782 Wed 01-Apr-15 21:28:48

It would have to be a good old classic like Indiana Jones to show the kids how action began smile
