Attention all gransnetters, we're giving away a fabulous set of DVDs worth £199.42 courtesy of the lovely people at Twentieth Century Fox. The bundle includes a huge variety of films and television series such as Modern Family, Bones, The Fault in our Stars, The Book of Life and many more - perfect entertainment for all the family during a miserable month of April showers.

To be in with a chance of winning we want you to tell us which movie you would screen (and why) if you had your very own cinema for just one night. The more funny and outrageous the better. May the Force be with you all smile

*Congratulations trisher, you are the lucky winner. We LOVED the hilarious account of what you would have everyone do whilst screening South Pacific!*

The Fritz Lang version of Metropolis - compare and contrast with today's modern London.

I would screen Fifty shades of grey because surely it must be for my generation and I would like to see what all the fuss is about!

GREASE..... is the word for me. I just love this film and could watch it over and over again.

It would have to be the 'Rocky Horror Picture Show', brilliant music and songs and a great reminder of an excellent evening ,all of us dressed as characters from the show and all carrying the required accessories including large water pistols with which we soaked each other !

Mary Poppins - entertains all the family

busterjames Wed 01-Apr-15 20:24:45

Toy story for my 2 grandchildren who love woody and the gang!! the children already have toy story and buzz pyjamas so i would make it
compulsory for adults as well !!

I would screen Brief Encounter with the audience dressedin period and speaking 'Queen's English' in clipped tones! It transports me back, drips with nostalgia and is so chaste, yet so romantic.

I like a horror or comedy, so Tucker and Dale versus pure evil, was right up my street.
The first ten minutes was a bit dull .. but, once they got to the cabin, it was laughs all the way.
Since watching the movie .. 'Call this a doer-upper? It's perfect!' .. has become a bit of a catch phrase in my life.
I use it to cover everything from the rather squished chocolate cake, I found in the reduced bin at Tesco's, to my rather tired old hat, I wore to my friends wedding!!

Groundhog day is so funny

I would screen Performance.
My husband and I lived in London in the 'Swinging Sixties' and lived in Powis Square, Notting Hill.
One day when our sons were about 18/19 they were watching a film on TV.
Coming into the room I jokingly remarked it looked like their Dad on the screen followed by 'Oh, it IS your Dad!'
Yep, there he was walking down the street in full hippie regalia - permed hair, fur coat, beads, the lot!
We remembered some filming going on while we lived there but little did we realise Mick had a 'starring' role!

I'd like to show all the Norman Wisdom films. Back to back please.

And I'd sit my husband down and let him watch them - on his own. I can't see the attraction so I would have an evening to catch up with my sewing.

Thanks.

It would have to be Rock Of Ages. Yes it's cheesy but oh so good! It is a great feel good movie with romance and brilliant songs. You can never be too old for a bit of karaoke and air guitar! grin

Green Mile as it is such a great film and funny, weepy and serious all in one film.

glammanana Fri 27-Mar-15 08:12:53

Mine would have to be Grease with the sound up high so my friends and I could jive up and down my lounge in our best dance frocks and enjoy the music of The Bee Gee's at their best.If you can't dance just get up and shake a leg,my downstairs neighbour may be annoyed by all the GNers noise but we are GNers and we are allowed. grin

Merrymaid Thu 26-Mar-15 18:40:55

For me it has to be "The Wizard of OZ" a classic movie for the family of all ages!

I have wonderful memories of watching this movie with my siblings and my Mother and Grandmother many years ago and I can't think of anything more wonderful than to sit down with my Daughters and Grandchildren and re-enact the same scenario. Popcorn or choc-ice anyone grin)

pinkspideruk Thu 26-Mar-15 18:02:06

The Sound of Music smile I love this film and I know all the songs word perfect so I could impress the rest of the watchers with my singing too (although I have been likened to a drunken cat in the past)

tishist Wed 25-Mar-15 23:48:36

The original Indiana Jones films as I remember loving them as a child and playing them out in the playground again and again!

knitnut Wed 25-Mar-15 21:52:34

Ace Ventura Pet Detective. I love animals.

It would have to be The Red Shoes with Moira Shearer. There is a legend in our family that I waved away an offered box of chocolates whilst watching this film at our local cinema in.....er....1948? Can that be right? I know I was only four at the time but totally mesmerised to the point that I began drifting down the aisle towards the screen until hauled back by my mother.

In the audience for my special screening would be my two ballet-mad little granddaughters and as many of their friends as they wished to invite. It would be quite a girly gathering so we would be served champagne and cupcakes before the start and ten flavours of ice-cream in the interval. Only a small amount of champagne for the little girls, though.
