I used to love all the Mad Max characters and the adventures they would get into.

I adored "Mandy". My granddad got me the subscription and I collected every single issue for over 4 years. I kept them all in order and so I was GUTTED to come home from school one day to find my Mum had put them all in the bin! I used to scour the charity shops for the hardcover annuals.

I remember a children's magazine called Treasure which was quite educational but I also loved the cut out dolls and clothes on the back page of the Bunty - would children still get the same pleasure out of something so simple now?

We were allowed to have Girl and School Friend delivered from the newsagent. Then I borrowed the Eagle from one of the boys we played with. My favourite hero was Dan Dare which no doubt explains my subsequent 'trekkie' tendencies and fascination for science fiction books.

I loved the Judy, it was always delivered on a Thursday and I looked forward to it all day and would run into the door to get it. I liked all the little stories, the charcters and would read it over and over until the next one came. Shame I can't buy it now!!

I can't remember the name but it always had a story about Nurse Nancy and Doctor David and I was enthralled. I was always the nurse and wildly in love with the Doctor. I never became a nurse but was married twice and they were both called David! I then 'grew up' and read Jackie for years always going to the problem page first to see what secrets people had that you dare not speak to parents about smile

When I was very young the Beano was a favourite and especially Lord Snooty.

I remember Bunty, I think there was one called Princess too but that was later. I loved Jackie and I used to get Fabulous 208 for the pop star pin ups too.

I use to get bunty and judy my mum and I would go to the corner shop on a Saturday afternoon and get them, mum would have people's friend we would get home make a drink couple of biscuits (never a whole packet not in those days) and curl up on the sofa and read the afternoon away and when I progressed to jackie I think my mum use to read it to find out what my generation of teens were up to. Lol

I was a big fan of the Archie comic books. I loved Betty the most, I really wanted to be like Betty!!!! Thinking about it now, I would prefer to be like Veronica...she had the money!

Oh Versa I remember that ladybird ring!

My favourite was Bunty, I loved the dress the paper doll on the back cover, hours of pleasure to be had from that. Each episode of The Four Marys kept me enthralled. Along with Bunty there was Judy, but I had to wait till I'd left primary school before I was allowed to buy the Jackie though I'd been sneakily reading my friend's copy long before that. Christmas morning would not have been the same without the Bunty and Judy annuals.

We all read the Beano and Dandy and my brothers were bought the Eagle which I pinched when I'd finished mine. My father used to say I'd read the back of the cornflake box if there was nothing else.

Thanks for rekindling those memories. smile

Dennis the Menace in the Beano - he could be as mischievous as I couldn't!

thebrums Thu 23-Apr-15 15:14:25

The Beano,Dennis reminded me soooo much of my Brother

oldwalshy Thu 23-Apr-15 15:12:32

The Beano, Dennis the mennace

Comics, when we could afford them or borrow old copies from friends, were the Dandy, Beano and the Topper. Occasionally I might be able to acquire an Eagle when collecting old newspapers/pop bottles from the neighbors to sell to the rag and bone man.

Bunty for me; I had a little Scottie dog that was free in one issue. I've got an old Bunty annual on the shelf behind me; I loved getting the annuals at Christmas.

I was a great Bunty fan. I can vividly remember reading the first issue as I walked back to school after lunch. My mother had bought it for me when she was shopping in the morning.

There was a free ladybird ring with it. I loved it and was very sad when it fell apart.

Thank you for awakening fond memories.

I used to get Mandy and Jackie, but secretly I used to read my brothers Dandy and Beano and so wanted to be Beryl the Pearl and get up to mischief smile
