For those who are feeling creative, we've got a Halloween competition to sink your teeth into... <ahem>

Showcase your/your grandchild/grandchildren's carved pumpkins on this thread, and any carving tips you may have, by 31 October for a chance of winning a bundle of books of your choosing (fiction, non-fiction, younger or older kids).

There's no need to rush out to the corner shop to buy a pumpkin - unless you want to - you're more than welcome to post up pictures from previous years (although if you've entered in previous years, you can't post the same photo). Whether it's a work of artistic brilliance <cough> or a simple Jack O' Lantern, we'd love to see it.

Winners will be picked by a panel and we'll announce the winner on this thread shortly after the competition has closed.

Usual T&Cs apply.

Our home-grown pumpkin carved by my Granddaughter.

This one I saw on Facebook slightly funnier..

My husband carved the pumpkin.. He took it very seriously and used tools! As in his tool box.

If only my nieces didn't notice he had done teeth upside down! Oops..

We wanted a friendlier theme than spooky ghosts, so chose to make a Fairy Pumpkin House.

I went to visit my little sister's new baby for half term. We carved giant Uncle's pumpkins fresh from the allotment for Nana V's new grandson baby Ryan. I carved a star to remind him of his Nana V who we lost to cancer on Feb 14th earlier this year - I know she is beaming with joy as she gazes down at him from a starry Halloween sky. This star pumpkin is for you Nana V. Love you mum, from darling new baby Ryan who you knew was on his way, your 7 children, 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandson- keep on shining Nana V we all love you xxx

sorry to sound negative about this but I really hope all the flesh from these pumpkins will be eaten. We do not like pumpkin so I won't buy them just to be carved and thrown away. 18,000 tons of pumpkin went to landfill in the uk last year, they do not decompose very quickly.

Sorry. The photos left my iPad the right way up and I don't know how to turn them backsad

Last year' effort. I have a broken finger this year so will have to give it a miss.
