When we were students and slept on the beach in Ios. (It was an idyllic island then with little tourism in 1970.) We would walk up the hill every day to the town for.the Grek rice pudding. Nectar of the Gods and worth the walk in the sun.
Wales. Salt marsh lamb, Welsh black beef. Cockles. Lava bread, Welsh cakes Bara Brith, Cawl, and cheese, lots of it plus Welsh Rarebit. Yummy and so near too
Germany!! Wonderful cheeses, just like France, fantastic fresh fruit and veg, love the meat and fish but the Kaffee und Kuchen are what tops it off! Sachertorte, Bienenstich, Schweine Ohren, Streuselkuchen, Apfelstrudel....and always exquisitely presented.
Italy for the pasta sauces served with gf pasta but also the balsamic vinegar, olive oil, tomatoes and wine.
We went to Rome for our honeymoon and I remember eating in the open air at one family run restaurant. The food was only spag bol but it seemed so different from 1970s UK and, of course it was very romantic!
