What is summer without a good book? And when it comes to good books, we have many excellent suggestions.

Here is a round-up of some of the best new reads for the summer holidays. One very (very!) lucky person can win the lot. All the details right here

To enter simply tell us about your best summer. It can be in as many (or few) words as you like. Prize draw will be made at midday on Weds 19 July.

One of my best summer memories is sitting in the back of a van with two of my daughter's goats which she had just purchased. Both goats were nervous and we took two buckets filled with goat feed which calmed them down and because they were busy munching, they were fine.
That was my first close up meeting with goats and they were lovely.

My best summer was the one between finishing college and leaving for university. Long days spent enjoying the sunshine with a great bunch of friends. A world brim full of opportunity and exciting plans for the future!

The summer of 1973 when my then new husband and I went camping in Cornwall with our very best friends Brenda & Noddy. The tent was small, the airbeds were lumpy, we had to wash our hair in a bucket. We got fresh milk & eggs from the farmer and every morning Noddy did a big fry-up of sausages, bacon, eggs, beans which we ate with fresh bread cooked by the farmer's wife every morning. I don't think I've ever eaten food as tasty as that since.

Sadly, Brenda died a few years ago but when we get together with Noddy we still talk about our wonderful summer holiday in Cornwall.

One childhood summer holiday in Cornwall with my two brothers and a load of cousins, playing handkerchief hide-and-seek in the sand dunes - such fun when there is a goodly crowd of you.

25th Wedding Anniversary spent in the Maldives. I was really worried as hubby had booked a diving course whilst there but the instructors let me go out on the boat with the divers and I saw so much sea life it was unbelievable. Fantastic islands and the staff were all so friendly. We were there for a fortnight and I loved snorkeling to the coral from the beach (not brave enough to do the diving). Evenings spent barefoot in the beach bar and restaurant (didn't wear any shoes the whole fortnight). Such a relaxing and fantastic holiday would love to return.

Summer of 1963 and I was seventeen. This handsome man turned up to navigate for a car rally that I was on, my friend was supposed to be the navigator but she was rubbish at map reading. We spent the whole of that summer getting to know each other and it was the happiest I have ever been. The romance lasted longer than the summer, we will have been married 50 years in October.

Summer of 1966 was great. Hearing music on Radio Luxembourg, watching the World Cup and swimming every day without a care in the world!

summer of'76, my boyfriend of the time [now husband of 40 yrs]borrowed a caravan, swapped his motorbike for his brother- in-laws car, and we went off for a weeks holiday in the Lake district - never forgotten! journey there was a nightmare, car trouble, traffic jams, [overheating engines], but once there, wonderful! did not want to come back home, although it did take us a few years to get back to thoughts of a caravan for holidays!

...but not in a Moggie, I hasten to add!!

Tegan2 Sun 09-Jul-17 16:06:18

The summer my ex and I travelled round Europe in a Morris 1000 Traveller. We did a modern day version of 'the grand tour', but did it on the cheap, camping and living on packet soup cooked with locally bought tomatoes and onions. Our Moggie took us up and over all the mountain passes, to the surprise of the locals who used to point to the dear car saying 'baum' and scratching their heads. We did a similar thing with the children many years later, but they were teenagers and it wasn't quite as relaxing!

My best summer has been this one when, at the age of sixty four, my two older sons descended on my younger son in Estepona and asked me to join them there. I can’t remember the last time I saw my three sons together in the same spot! What could beat that?

I think it was 1961. The weather was glorious and I spent the school holidays at the outdoor swimming baths at Harrison Drive, on the edge of the River Mersey.

About 15 years ago we had a summer of fishing weekends that were really relaxing with nice weather, good books to read and puzzle books to do - we even caught some nice fish! Orchid Lakes in Oxfordshire was a favourite place to go as the bailiffs were helpful & knowledgeable, facilities good and the local Chinese restaurant delivered to the gates so we ate well too.

Wow, love reading - hope I win the books! My best summer was 4 years ago. My first grandchild was born, a gorgeous blue-eyed blonde who is starting "big school" next term. I spend lots of time with her, she's a delight, and I so wish that my parents had lived long enough to see her, but I having great fun as a granny and love reading stories to her - must be the retired librarian in me!??

we hadnt been on holiday for a while due to my ill health, back and fro hospital, operations etc. a lot of family tragedy. we were strapped for cash as i no longer able to work. my husband booked a surprise week self catering in cornwall. he had been saving every penny. it was the first time our dog had been on holiday. we took our time travelling down, stopping frequently as i found car travel difficult. it was lovely. he had pre arranged all disabled aids to be delivered and in accommodation, plus wheelchair, zimmer etc. we had a fantastic time, he would take me for short drives, find somewhere for me to sit while he took dog for a walk on beach. sharing fish and chips, ice cream with husband and dog while looking at sea views. it did us both good to be away, take a breath of sea air and destress, at least for a week.
