In our latest competition with Orion, we're giving you the chance to win a £100 Waitrose voucher and a copy of Greatest Hits by number one bestselling author Laura Barnett, a story about the power of reflection and how much our memories mean to us.

If you could choose just 16 moments to define your entire life, what would they be? That’s what Cass Wheeler must do. A musician born in 1950, Cass is now taking one day to select the 16 songs in her repertoire that have meant the most to her.

And behind each song lies a story - from the day her mother abandoned her, to her passionate first love, to the moment she lost everything. The dreams, the failures, the second chances.

So, what are the songs that mean the most to you, and evoke your most precious memories? Perhaps it was the first dance at your wedding, or the song repeated on the radio throughout your first holiday, or the only music that would rock your baby to sleep. Tell us in the comments below for the chance to win an £100 Waitrose voucher and a copy of Greatest Hits! We also have 25 copies of the book for runners-up.

Greatest Hits is published by W&N, an imprint of Orion, and is available online and from all good booksellers.

Please post your entries below by 11am 16 April.

Usual T&Cs apply.

Lilli Marlene. My Grampy used to sing this to me to get me off to sleep. Sadly, he died when I was 18 months old so I have no memories of him but this song helps me to feel close to him.

I have memories of sitting around a little brown Bakelite radio with my Mum and Dad when I was very little, and I loved it when the song ‘ There is a mole in a hole’ used to come on. Years later my sons favourite was Karma Chamelion, definitely an animal theme in this family!

When I stayed the night at my Granny’s house, I would come into her big bed early in the morning and coorie doon for a cuddle. Granny would sing Scarlet Ribbons. It still brings me to tears. I loved watching Saturday afternoon films with my mum. One of our favourites was The Student Prince. Mario Lanza singing Golden Days breaks my heart.

Band of Gold by Freda Payne was our first dance song at our wedding. TOTALLY inappropriate for a wedding but it was the first song we ever danced to and we love it. We are still together 39 years later so it wasn’t a bad omen ?

Weather with you - Crowded House brings back memories of when I first met my husband as every time we went on a date it was raining so he would say I've brought the weather with me so the crowded house became our song.

Mine would be Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond. We were in Las Vegas (getting married) and were waiting to watch the pirate show outside Treasure Island and the bar next to the hotel played Sweet Caroline. The entire crowd spontaneously burst in song singing along. It was a truly magical moment.

Too much music, too many memories but these are some that have special meaning for me. The Way We Were by Barbra Streisand (lovely film, wonderful singer who I never appreciated before my husband took me to see it). Lady Love Me One More Time by George Benson (bygone love), Up Where We Belong from An Officer and a Gentleman ( it was playing on the radio in the ward when I discovered by mother had died. I often hear it played on that date or on her birthday). Oh Mein Papa in memory of my wonderful father. Angeline is Only Friday by the Seekers. My husband loves them and Angeline our first daughter is named after the song. I think I had better stop as I could go on for ever!

‘All I have to do is dream’ by Richard Chamberlain.( Yes,
Dr Kildaire!) When I was at college in the late sixties we had a record player in the common room and only had about three records that were played constantly. I just have to hear that tune and I am immediately transported back to those days.
