My favourite is the anticipation of long summer days, waking up to sunshine and a gentle breeze accompanied by sweet birdsong. Walks through poppy filled cornfields and watching butterflies flitting through the buddliea, dragon flies grazing the pond and hedgerow and bees hoovering up pollen on rainbowed flowers whilst I curl up on the hammock to enjoy my latest book.
The worst part of summer is the children going back to school, heralding the start of autumn. The slight nip in the air, the extra layer to keep warm. The drunken wasps looking for their next victim. Mosquitoes buzzing , ready to bite sneakily, but revealed by my allergic red , mountainous swellings! But the sadness at summer's irritations are redeemed by knowing late summer will put on it's beautiful final display of russet cloaked trees , the flight of summer birds, that will return...And the darker nights will enable me to snuggle up on my comfy sofa in front of a glorious flame filled fire with another good read. Life is good !
