My favourite activity was building mazes out of straw bales, following the annual harvest!
The local farmer liked us playing this game, as it meant he didn't have to do the hard work of gathering all the bales together - our mazes accomplished the job for him, and when the holidays were over, he simply made a haystack from the bales!
Those summers always seemed to be sunny, and we would play all day in the fields (having taken sarnies wrapped in grease-proof paper for lunch) only returning home when our tummies rumbled for tea smile
