Climbing up the deserted quarry behind my house. It was high and very dangerous. I recently went back to Cardiff and beat my way through brambles etc to look at the quarry again. I was staggered to see how high I went as a very young child.

My favourite activity was rollerskating. I had those ones which you attach to your shoes and I pretty much wore them 24 hours a day. I longed for roller boots. Still do!

Walking the 2 miles to the beach on a sunday afternoon with my dad and our dog Bruce. Those days were so precious as he died when I was just 19 from cancer. We used to search for flat stones to scim across the sea, make rock piles and look for shells. Then we would have our pop and crisps while watching the sea fishermen. Then we set off on our walk home to our sunday tea with my mam. She used to watch for us from the bedroom window and I can still picture her there. Days that were so happy and truly unforgetable.

We use to block the bridge over a burn with items fished out of the burn. We would then hide and wait for our victims to approach. If it was an old person or someone with a pram a couple of us would pretend we walking past and clear the bridge for them. Anyone else, we remained hidden and listened to the upset we had caused. If my Mum had known we would have been in trouble.

With a big garden, the best times were. Picking peas, rasps, strawberries , pulling rhubarb, finding the potatoes when they were dug up. And then there was picking brambles and blueberries. We were very lucky.

Wild camping on beautiful bleak Dartmoor, and cooking sausages (the best sausages ever!) over a camp fire, while picking yellow gorse flowers wearing my Dad’s massive rubber gloves, ready for him to make wine later that day...

I used to like walking with my friend to Wepre Woods where someone had strung up a rope with a knot in it onto a tall tree. We used to sit on the knot and swing out over the waterfall and river below. (Makes me shudder with fright when I think about it now - potentially so dangerous!)

My favourite activity as a child was playing funfairs in the garden with my Mum. I would set up games, such as skittles and raffles and my mum would have to play each game. We were always in our swimming costumes and the sun was always shining !! Happy happy days.

I used to love playing in my wendy house with my dolls. I would have the wendy house set up as a hospital with all of my doctors instruments laid out on a trolley for carrying out operations and me dressed in my nurses uniform and cape. My dolls would be on an upturned cot with their legs in traction, which consisted of the dolls legs being bandaged and their ankles tied up with string. The string was then tied onto the top pole of the wendy house so that their legs were suspended in mid air.
