Playing with my dolls on my own then as I got older playing with a friend with what we called “teenage” dolls. I guess they were the forerunners of Sindy dolls. We used to make clothes for them, shame my sewing skills never progressed beyond that very basic level!

doing tumbles on the trampoline!

My favourite activity without a doubt was going to the seaside. I loved playing on the beach and paddling in the sea. We didn't live on the coast so it was a big treat to go to the seaside and it's something I still love to do.

Building a den: it could be under a table, under a washing line with a sheet over the top, or inside the hedge!

French skipping with elastic bands joined together and skipping with a big skipping rope, whilst singing skipping songs with friends. We had old fashioned scooters too with ribbons on the handlebars where we would ride around the block.

Ikea1234 Sun 07-Apr-19 17:17:57

Cycling round 'the block's (our street) on my bike.

I loved going on walks in the local wood and finding the secret tower.

I always loved walking along the groins at the seaside imagining I was a tightrope walker.

Hey Rosemary 55, I'm glad someone else remembers doing that with the stocking and the tennis ball! Always fun when the foot wore out and the ball got flung off in all directions! We used to stand up against the school wall and drive the teachers barmy with the donk donk donk. Whenever I mention it to my contempories no-one remembers doing it so I'm glad to find someone who does. Can't remember a name for it either.

Playing in the 'den' we made in a bush on the railway embankment of our local push-me-pull-you, and hiding from the engine drivers if one ever chuntered past!

Making mud pies. My Mum dressed me in an old coat and sat me in an unplanted patch of flowerbed. I would make pies for hours. I never understood why nobody wanted to eat them.

Going out on my bike around the village.

Many a happy, carefree hour at the local horse riding school. I just loved it, and didn't care if I was having a lesson, on a hack, helping out around the stables or walking with a pony on a leading rein and a new rider in the saddle.

Riding my bicycle with all the other children that lived in our Close

I used to love spending hours in the garden with my Dad, planting seeds, looking after my own little garden patch and listening to stories he made up about a magic dog named Fred.

My favourite outdoor activity as a child was playing hide and seek with friends.

Making den's with all my friends, lucky enough to have lived in semi rural location, we would take a sandwich and a drink and spend every day outside in school holidays,

dubdubdub Sun 07-Apr-19 08:04:15

I loved playing shops, setting up a stall outside my house and selling flowers from our garden, jars of raspberry jam my Mum had made, and anything else I could persuade my Mum to let me have!

ChocoholicSue Sun 07-Apr-19 07:45:47

Playing in the shallow stream in the field next to my grandmother's house with my brother and local children. We would catch tiddlers and take them back in jam jars. Many happy days were spent there, the sun always shining. I kept a wary eye on the cows who belonged in the field.

Favourite thing to do was going on holiday with my grandparents.
They had a touring caravan and I spent a lot of time in their company.
They used to say I kept them young.
I'm hoping to build the same type of memories with my grand child when she arrives
