I loved making furniture for my Pippa dolls from all sorts of empty packaging and scraps of material. Those dolls lived in a veritable palace, it even had its own private beauty salon!

Making our own go-carts, (we called them geggies or geegs) from planks of wood, pram wheels and old rope.
We used to scour the back gardens of tenements, looking for discarded prams, to use the wheels.
The only problem was, they had no brakes and it was very hilly where I lived! ?

My mother had just finished knitting me a cardigan to match my Brownie uniform, I was wearing it coming dowhill on a geeg, when my cardie caught in the wheels and promptly unravelled. . You can imagine my mother's reaction.

Skipping all the kids in the street loved it. We used to tie one end of the rope to the lamp post and take turns turning the rope at the other side of the road There could be up to 10 of us skipping together. With only one car owner in the street so we didn't have to drop the rope very often.

My favourite activity was running down the sanddunes. We used to have competitions of who could get to the bottom first, and it almost always ended with somebody with a face full of sand.

Riding my bike, me and my pals were always finding new death defying stunts to try out on our bikes (to an 9 year old) sometimes we even pretended they were horses. We never travelled very far (not allowed by Mum) but me and my pals would literally spend all day on our bikes

We lived on a massive Naval Estate down South. I used to go out with the four boys next door. We used to play inside an old moat that said MOD property Keep Out! That didn’t stop us!

Skating on the pond in the park across the road - did once misjudge the ice thickness (allegedly quite indignant that the seagulls were standing on the ice) - but just loved skating.

I was a very shy child and didn't make friends easily but had no problem talking to, and amusing, younger children. Our house backed onto a woods and I was usually found there with two or three small children. We made dens, picked flowers, "fished" in the burn, climbed trees, had picnics etc. We were often out all day and no one ever worried about us as they knew we would be home in time for tea!

Playing in my garden - we had a huge, beautiful, garden with stepping stones, a big hill, hidden areas. It was magical, loved it.

We played tennis for free in the park over the road

My favourite outdoor activity was picking brambles from hedgerows on a Sunday!

Oh I wish I hadn't already given my DD a picnic hamper. I would love to give her that one! It's gorgeous!

I only said "I don't want to win" there because I think the prize would be lovely for someone with younger grandchildren!

My favourite was sitting in the middle of the road on a hot summers day bursting the tar bubbles! Not popular with Mum as I invariably arrived home covered in tar. This was in Walthamstow E17 as well - not many cars around then ? The boy next door was sent out by his Nan to follow the horse drawn rag n bone cart up the road with a bucket and spade to collect horse poo for the roses - this all sound amazingly Victorian but I am 66 not 96!!!

Too many to say. Throwing balls against walls (still like that), riding bike, skipping, running everywhere.
