I loved climbing trees and going for walks through the woods. Paddling in the river and picking flowers for my mum. Generally daisies and dandelion

Skipping was probably the favourite but scrambling up and down the hills in the nearby smallish forest was a close second.

Building camps and climbing trees. I also loved going on picnics with my family. We would go explore and find a random place to eat. We once were in the middle of eating in what we thought was an empty field. When a bull turned up and was very interested in us and our food.

We didn't have a car so it was long walks into the countryside with a picnic of egg and cress sandwiches and a flask of tea. Sometimes even a piece of cake for a special treat!

Climbing walls and having picnics on the roof of the old wash houses in the back courts (I grew up in a tenement in Glasgow). Happy days

Climbing a large tree with low hanging branches on the bank of the local canal, with a Ladybird book and half an apple. I definitely wouldn't allow my children to do that today! We weren't aware of consequences in those days, the branches didn't overhang the canal and the low branches were good to lean back against the thick tree trunk, we could watch the barges moving along the canal and cross over the stone bridge to go to the chandlers and the little shop attached, they sold lovely ice-creams! (Note the half apple, we had to share apples because of the expense).

Making perfume with my sister out of rose petals or lavender and pouring it into little bottles and jars and then giving it to the ladies in our street.

Always walking and being outside amongst nature, with our late Dad. Fabulous memories of long trips to our local beautiful cemetery, outlying villages or our gorgeous large local parks, bird-spotting and drinking in the smells and sounds and sightings on a gorgeous spring or summer day.

Roller skating - I had the sort of skates that had a leather piece across the front of your foot with laces on and a strap around your ankle. You could adjust the length of the skate with a nut and bolt underneath. They had been passed round the family and were well worn when I got them but I totally loved them. When I think back to my childhood it was all about reading indoors or skating outside. I feel like I spent the entire summers with wheels on my feet!

Filling the sink in the brew house with water and taking my little plastic animals in there to have 'adventures'. I think they were mainly lions and tigers I'd bought on a school trip to London Zoo,
